Great tour, mostly through Park Slope and bit of Prospect Park. Rick focuses on the history of the buildings and pointed out things about the brownstones I have never noticed before and wouldn't have seen on my own. I had hoped for more history about Brooklyn itself and how it has changed, but he did provide some information on that.

Nothing like spending three terrific hours with a native Brooklyn guy with loads of stories, from Al Capone growing up to the Rat Pack's antics at a favorite after hours Italian restaurant, and the lives of the New York elite of the 19th Century. Rick Kadlup loves his home town and it shows every minute as he leads a very interesting walk through the Park Slope area of Brooklyn. He is very well-prepared, both with knowledge about the places and people who lived in the area. I lucked out on a sunny March Monday afternoon as Rick's only paying guest. His charming girlfriend made it a threesome. I strongly recommend the experience.

Just do it. Park Slope is a great neighborhood, but it has had its ups and downs, and Rick was there for it all. Go, listen, ask questions, and get clued in on the bygone days of Brooklyn. Before too long, nobody will be around with first hand knowledge of this area and times, get it while you can, you will never see the area the same way again.

Rick, the tour guide, looks, talks and has the same attitude as Rocky Balboa's brother-in-law, Paulie. Big difference is that Rick has lived in the neighborhood all his life, knows tons about the history, culture and architecture of the area and shares it all easily and often humorously. And every few blocks on this 3 hour tour, you get interrupted by a local stopping to talk to or about him, making you feel that much closer to what's going on there. Well worth the price and time.

Rick Kadlub does a great job with his walking tour of the Park Slope section of Brooklyn, NY. It took about two minutes to feel as though we'd known him all our lives. He's very knowledgeable, witty, articulate and tuned in to the comfort and needs of his tourists. The time flew by and we learned lots of amazing things about the neighborhood.

A walking tour with Big Rick is like visiting with your Brooklyn cousin (cousins pop up a lot in the conversation, since Rick grew up in the then seamier side of Park Slope where he was related to about everybody Italian). Rick shows you around his old home turf, explains the changes (and what his mother thinks of them) and fairly stuns you with his vast knowledge of the fancy and not so fancy parts of Park Slope. Architecture, family lore, childhood pranks and restaurants, history, and a genuine love of the place fill out the 3-hour tour, all topped off with an authentic (and free) slice of Pizza. I have lived in Park Slope these past 22 years and had no idea of many of the interesting things in my own backyard. Thanks, Rick !!!

Richard Kadlub gives the 3 hour walking tours in South Slope. He has spent all his life in Brooklyn and has the accent and style to porve it! He ends the tour with cheese pizza! He is very helpful in advising what else to do while in Brooklyn. His tour consists of walking through the neighborhoods and talking about Brooklyn history. Altough I am in Manhatten, frequently this was the first time in Brooklyn. It was an enjoyable day. Tour groups are small and walking is very easy. Richard knows the majority of people that live in this area and that also adds a pleasant touch to his tours. rkwalkbrooklyn.com

Walking tours are necessarily limited in what you get to see. It's not an overview of Brooklyn but a more in-depth view of the Park Slope area of Brooklyn. Rick the tour guide grew up in the neighborhood and fills in with personal stories of growing up in Brooklyn, some history of how buildings and streets have changed over time, and his thoughts on what's coming in the neighborhoods around Prospect Park. He has also done his homework and is knowledgeable about the architectural history and detail of the buildings. At the beginning of the tour, he offers his clients a bottle of water and near the end of the tour, he treats his clients to a slice of pizza. There were only four of us on our tour which made it very personal and allowed lots of questions, discussion, and interaction with him. He is considering adding a tour of Brooklyn Heights. If he does, we'll happily sign on. Most walking tours seem to run about $10/hour, so at $30 for 3 hours with water and pizza thrown in, this is a good value for anyone who wants to get out of Manhattan and see what some of the rest of NYC is like.

Rick met us near the Union Street Station with a bottle of water and a smile. He immediately handed us a list of famous Brooklynites -- some surprising people.

Rick is of Italian ancestry and has lived in the neighborhood for 46 years. He knows all about the place. He walked us out of the gentrifying area into an area of Brownstones into Prospect Park and on to an authentic pizza parlor.

He does private tours, bus tours, etc. He is planning a new tour of Brooklyn Heights for the future. I can't recommend him enough. My husband and 3 friends went on the tour. One friend is an architect and said his knowledge was very complete.

Call Rick up and have a great time!
