My five kids (ages 9-18) and I spent a lovely day in El Yunque with John. His encyclopedic knowledge of rainforest ecology and delightful personality made this an unforgettable part of our trip to Puerto Rico. His love of the rainforest and of Puerto Rico helped us to love it too.

My wife, daughter and I went on a walking tour of the El Yunque rainforest and had a great day with John. He is so knowledgeable of the plants and ecology, as well as the culture and other info about Puerto Rico with all the time he has lived there. He is also has a wit about him that makes the trip even more enjoyable!!! We hiked 5-6 miles to three different observation tours, but the walk was not hard or even very muddy with the rain the area receives. We would definitely recommend John to others!!

As you can tell from other reviews, John really knows his stuff! It made for a educational, physical, and fun day:) I think we ended up going around 5mi, but a short option is available as well. We ended up finishing our morning at a bakery that he recommended and dropped us off at because I got a little "hangry" on the walk (maybe take a banana or granola bar if you're like me lol) and it was delicious! Thanks for everything, John!

LIke the other reviews John picked up myself and my two kids - we stopped for breakfast and then hiked and talked our way through a 3 + hour walk in the rain forest. He also stopped for a late lunch on the way home. It was great for me not to drive, and we all learnt \SO much about the place that otherwise would have been just looking - and not having a clue what we were looking at. He is a great guy, a great guide, seemed unfazed by my bickering kids and we had a truly wonderful day to remember. So so worth every penny. Do it!

My group of 4 adults and 3 children met John for a day in El Yunque. We had a great time doing a moderate difficulty hike for about 5 hours. John shared his fascinating stories about his life and his experiences in ecotourism and investment in the rainforest, including some great history and science stories. We also did a little excursion around a waterfall that was a more difficult hike. Everyone had a great time!

My wife and I spent the better part of a day with John Druitt, the owner of Rubio's Tours. We had a private tour, and he picked us up from our hotel in Old San Juan, drove us to El Yunque, and led us along a less-traveled path up into the cloud forest. It was perfect for our skill level (we're in our 60s) and exactly what we were hoping for. He's a British ex-pat who has lived in Puerto Rico for many years. We found him wonderfully personable and very knowledgeable about the ecology of the rain forest, as well as about life on the island. Highly recommended!

We had a wonderful day exploring El Yunque under John's guidance. He's got a great sense of humor and is highly knowledgeable about the island and rainforest. Everyone in our party enjoyed our time with him - the adults as well as a teen and a pre-teen. We covered a lot of ground and he managed to steer us around the crowded areas so we felt like we had the park to ourselves. If you're up for a good hike, definitely book a tour with John. It was a fun and memorable experience!

John was an awesome tour guide!!! He picked us up at the Wyndham and took our group of 4 to a great breakfast joint before our rainforest hike. He was very knowledgeable and set a great pace for our hike up 1000'. He also took us to a remote waterfalls and kept us away from heavy tourist stops in the rain forest. Thank you John!

John picked us up at the cruisepier and started driving and telling us about his wonderful life and the life and all things at Puerto Rico. He's an amazing speaksman and knows a lot about life in general. We walked throught the rainy El Yunque before the park should be too crowded: there was almost no one on our route and John showed us the specific things of the rain forest like the trees, their roots, the birds, the animals, the flowers - all was very interesting. Half way we made the decision not to do the longer hike but to turn to the coast line to watch the beach (Luquilo) and eat some PR food which was very tasty. At the end we had half an hour spare time before embarking our cruise ship so John dropped us near a few shops in San Juan. All the way we had very enjoyable day and we appreciate it very much that John exactly felt was what was on our needs.

We've been in a number of rain forests before, and the one thing we learned was this: If you're going to take the time to hike, do it with a local who is knowledgeable about the area. My husband researched guide for El Yunque prior to our travels to Puerto Rico, and John Druitt's name rose to the surface. He was prompt in responding to our inquiry and answered all of our questions, so we didn't hesitate to book a tour.
And we weren't disappointed! John was a most gracious host and tour guide, providing us with much knowledge and insight regarding El Yunque. If you want to do more than just hike and enjoy the beauty of El Yunque, and really want to learn more to better understand what you're seeing, you can't go wrong with Rubio's Tours.
