Boat ride down the river around the moat around the castle. There are many different names and many vendors open. The names vary from vendor to vendor, but the contents are almost the same.
Here, I would like to share with you some information about how the Jomon Sightseeing Company went down the river, but the contents of other companies' river trips are almost the same, so please refer to them.
However, the course and price of the tour (there are many depending on the number of people on board) differ depending on the vendor, so it is better to check in advance.
The size of the boat is about 6 meters in total, as you can see in the picture. Even if you sit on the left and right side of the room, it is full of 14 or 5 people. The boat is powered by 'manpower only', with a boatman on board and paddled with a rod. By the way, it's only a few dozen centimeters to the bottom of the river, so even if it were to topple over, it would be OK (but use it at your own risk).
Visit the city gate starting from the north gate of the flower and returning. It was about an hour net.
On the way, it was nice to see the Okihata Suitengu from the moat.
Along the way, there are also bridges that you can get past by boat. It is very thrilling and fun, but if you have difficulty getting down, please check in advance.
The place to go around the south side of the flower, near the Kamenoi Hotel, was nice because the trees were covered with digs.

A performance called "Crossing the Bridge" is performed by the boatmen at Takemon Bridge.
The boatmen leave their boats with passengers on board, climb onto the bridge, cross the bridge and then jump back onto the boat, a ninja performance.
In "Crossing the Bridge," the boatman jumps onto the bridge just before the boat passes under the bridge, crosses the road and jumps back down onto the boat that has passed under the bridge.
It's a very unique performance.

It was cold, but I decided to go on board. We departed from Kamenoi Hotel with a family of six. At first, the atmosphere was awkward, but after the boatman, who was in his 30s, started singing a series of songs by Kitahara Hakushu, everyone started to get along and have a good time. The boatman, who graduated from a music college and is a member of the Nikikai Society, had an outstanding voice and I was completely captivated. I thought it was just a river ride, but it turned out to include a concert, which I was so impressed with! I wanted to pay more.

船頭さんは、お話上手で歌も上手く
楽しい一時でした。
しかし、それ以外残念でした。
時間が無く、40分コースにしました。
到着したらすぐ出航出来る
様に貸切（４千円）にしました。
駅からの送迎はするけど、帰りは
タクシーでって言う。
タクシーはすぐ拾えるか？と聞いても
解らない。と
小一時間で観光したいと言うと
無理って言う。
当日、駅に迎えに来た人は、
『時間は守ってもらわないと。こっちも忙しいんで、お客さん待たせてるんで！』
って怒る。客商売に向いてない。
トイレに行って改札出ただけなのに。
大体こっちは貸切で予約してます。
勝手に乗り合いにして、お客を待たせてるのそちらです。
発着場に着いたら隣りタクシー乗り場でした。
下船してから十分観光する時間ありました。
小さな街です。
堀の柳並木を散策しました。
問い合わせに不親切過ぎる。

The main reason we came to Yanagawa for a couple of days was to see the canal network and to take a ride on one of the boats that ply their trade on the canal.
It was a very interesting ride of about 45 minutes around a very small part of the canal .The young guy who poled our boat around was very pleasant and made you feel welcome .
He chatted the whole time and must have been funny as the people on the boat were laughing a lot, it was all in Japanese of course .
He handled the boat well, it must be quite hard work especially against a head wind.
Some of the bridges we went under were very low and we had to lay down in the bottom of the boat to get under.
On one bridge he sent us under then he jumped up onto the bridge and jumped back into the boat when we came out the other side, a Japanese Ninja he exclamed , that got a laugh, he also did some singing during the trip.
The trip took us through residential and shopping street areas, I believe you can do longer trip if you want. They go in all sorts of weather, when it rains they provide you with ponchos.
Well worth the 1200 Yen per person , normally I think it is 1500Yen but we got a deal through the hotel we were staying at.
The boat company picked us up at the hotel too which was great ..
It is not as glamorous as a Gondola ride in Venice the boats are very basic , made of wood and have been around a long time but it is something unique in Japan and fun to do.

いくつかの船会社があるようですが、今回は御花の近くの乗り場から乗船しました。私達は10名程で貸切でしたが、最大で15名程は乗れるみたいです。1人1800円でした。
約2キロを1時間程でまわります。途中、船頭さんの舟歌や柳川の歴史を聞きながらあっという間に時間が経つ感じです。橋をいくつかくぐり抜けるのですが、頭上ギリギリのところもあり、なかなか面白かったです。川の流れがほとんどないので、穏やかに進みます。
今の時期は藤の花が楽しめます。またこの季節から夏は日焼けに注意です。申し出ると和傘を無料で貸し出ししてくれます。因みに冬はコタツが入るそうです。

川下りの船会社は数社あるようですが、案内された会社で一番近いところでした。
船頭さんのガイドや、料金、サービスはよかったのですが、切符売り場で出番を待ってる若い船頭さんが、表通りでタバコを吸っているのが気になりました。
子どもやタバコ嫌いの人もいるので、喫煙所や見えないところで吸えばいいのにと思います。
