I’d like to start by specifying that the Bio Park is not in Nagasaki City but Nagasaki Prefecture so this is not an activity to add in to a day in Nagasaki it is a day trip excursion. I’ll discuss access at the end of this post.
I came during the late winter so perhaps the animals outside the greenhouse areas were not so active however I still enjoyed my time. There are indeed areas where you can directly interact with animals such as capybaras and monkeys. PAW is a separate hourly paid area that features a dog room, cat room, and a common area with goats, birds, hamsters, etc. You can pet and feed the animals in both PAW and the proper Bio Park so it can be a really fun experience for a family. There are some food stalls here too however everything closes relatively early before 5pm.
Regarding access, the Bio Park is an hour’s drive north of Nagasaki. Driving in a foreign country may be intimidating for the average reader of these posts so it’s also possible to take a bus from Nagasaki. There is also a complimentary shuttle from Huis Ten Bosch (a major Kyushu theme park) however you must make a reservation on the official Bio Park website. The shuttle ride adds on about 45 minutes one way. The shuttle is bright yellow with obvious livery. The shuttle stops at the Hotel Lorelei parking lot as well as the main entrance of Huis Ten Bosch amusement park. The park stop has an obvious shuttle stop sign which I have attached. The Hotel Lorelei is technically closer to the train station however if you’ve never seen Huis Ten Bosch before then I suggest going to that side and at least taking a look at the outside.
To get to Huis Ten Bosch from Nagasaki you can either take the Special Rapid Seaside Liner or take the Shinkansen to Takeo Onsen and transfer to the Limited Express Huis Ten Bosch. If you have a JR Kyushu pass then the latter option is included and is much more comfortable especially since you can reserve seats. If you do not have a pass then the Seaside Liner is more affordable and also does not involve any transfers. Just get on in Nagasaki and get off at Huis Ten Bosch. The drawback is that it is a rapid train so there are no seat reservations and you will be competing for seats with the local commuters. I’ve never had a problem getting seats however in the absolute worst case scenario ~2 hours is a very long time to be standing up.

When I visited this park, I was shocked by the poor conditions the animals were forced to live in. The cages are very narrow, leaving little room for animals to move around freely or take natural action.
I was particularly struck by how badly they handled capybaras, and they seemed hungry and clearly stressed. It was heartbreaking to see them in such a state. In addition, the park has been brutalized by chopping off the wings of birds and depriving them of the ability to fly. It is completely unnecessary and inhumane treatment.
At the entrance to the park, a llama is trapped in a small enclosure, and she can hardly move. The stress is obvious, with some visitors shouting or acting inappropriately to further stress her.

Great experience. Monkey’s are the highlight. Animals are right there in your face with nature, free to roam around at will. Kangaroos and hippo’s were awesome too.

Although it is a hands-on zoo, it is different from the so-called circus-like zoos that treat animals as if they are a showpiece. The charm is that you can see the animals in a lively manner.
It is probably rare to be able to feed flamingos by hand.
Some of the animals you can interact with can be difficult to interact with (such as llamas) because of their threatening behavior, but I like how they educate people on how to interact with them on social media such as YouTube.
The zoo was carved out of nature and the slope is a bit steep, but there are ramps.
However, the basic concept is "invading the animal world," so people with strollers or wheelchairs may want to think carefully before visiting.

I visited the park on a holiday during the winter season from 10am to 2pm. There were signs showing the route, so I was glad that I could see and interact with all the animals without getting lost. Walking around the park was good exercise. Below are some of my experiences and impressions.
The area where I stayed the longest (and most memorable) was the capybara area. There were many capybaras, some sleeping in front of the stove, and some waiting at the food counter. You can feed them bamboo leaves, and when you buy them, they will come over and eat them in no time. The 100 yen coins disappear in proportion to how fast they do it, so I think it's a good idea to prepare a lot. It was a lot of fun to feed them and interact with them. In addition, an open-air bath event was held only in winter, and it was very cute to see them bathing comfortably! This alone made it worth visiting.
Other things I found unusual were the bats and sand cats. I was able to see bats hanging from tree branches and sleeping up close, which was a good experience. The sand cat itself is cute and unusual, but it was so cute to watch as it kept repeating the same movement over and over again. I also thought it was great that there were hairdryers in the greenhouse to defog glasses.
After looking around, I bought some original magnets and stuffed toys at the shop, and ate at the restaurant. I thought it was great that the restaurant had a variety of options, including noodles, rice bowls, and Sasebo burgers. As for public transportation access, there is a local bus that runs from Nagasaki Station, so it was easy to get there and back.

Getting there: easy and beautiful 30 min ride via free shuttle (reservations required) from Huis Ten Bosch Amusement Park-the shuttle stop is a 5 min walk from Hotel Okura JR Huis Ten Bosch and in front of the Toyota car rental.
Tickets: purchased vouchers online. Vouchers are good for 30 days from the purchase date.
The experiences: nothing like it anywhere! Hand fed kangaroo, flamingo, capybara, spider monkeys, Lemurs, and more. Bring lots of 100 yen coins to purchase the animals food.

無料のシャトルバスサービスを利用する方へ。乗車場所はハウステンボス駅から徒歩5分程度のホテル「ローレライ」をおすすめします。ホテルフロント前からの乗車なのでわかりやすいです。ハウステンボスも乗車できますが、場所はわわかりにくいです。また、日帰りで荷物をコインロッカーにあすけたい場合、ホテルローレライのコインロッカーの利用であれば宿泊者以外でも無料で利用できます。（利用時100円を入れ、取り出すときにその100円が返却されます。）ちなみにﾊハウステンボス駅にもコインロッカーはありますが、100円硬貨しか利用できません。9時前ぐらいの時間ではまだみどりの窓口もオープンしていませんし、両替機もありませんのでかならず100円硬貨で600円用意してください。

初めて伺いました。
中学生の娘とハウステンボスに行ったので、その翌日の飛行機の時間まで、時間潰し的に行こう！っとなり伺いました。
想像以上に楽しかったです。
特に猿に餌を与えるのが楽しかったようです。
もう一度行きたいと言っていました。
もっと園内広いのかと思いましたが、意外と狭かったです。
でも必ずまた行きたいです。

山の自然に溶け込んだ園の風景や、放し飼いの動物たちが見せる生き生きとした姿は、訪れるたびに新鮮で、我が家からは少し遠いですが子供の頃から何度も通う大好きな施設です。また、ちょくちょく動物用おやつの販売があり、ふれあいを楽しめるのも大好きポイントの一つ。100円玉をたくさん用意していくことをお勧めします。冬の一番の見どころはやはりカピバラゾーン。広い敷地の一角にお風呂やストーブが登場します。無心にお湯に浸かり続けるカピバラさんは見ていて飽きません。ごろ寝するカピバラさんと一緒にストーブに当たっていると、ゆっくりゆっくり時間が流れます。キツネザルの森では高い木々の枝に目を凝らしてもなかなか彼らの姿を見ることができませんが、新鮮なウン〇があったのでそこにいるのは確か。会えればラッキーというような動物たちも結構います。今回初めて目撃したのは、ミーアキャットの放し飼いです。しっかり見張りを立て、ピクニックゾーンの芝生を掘って虫探しに勤しむミーア家族。やんちゃなそうな子供が突撃していくと、全員で威嚇したあと岩山に撤退する姿に野生の暮らしを垣間見ました。人が多いと出てきそうにないので、閑散期ならではの遭遇かもしれません。ここは決して便利な立地ではなく、動物の種類もそう多くはありませんが、彼ら１匹１匹の幸せな暮らしぶりにいつも心が満たされます。

動物との距離感がとても近い施設です。全てではありませんが、いろんな動物と直接触れあえたりエサ（有料）をあげたりすることが出来ます。施設の方々も、心から動物たちを大切に接していることがよく分かる素晴らしい施設だと思います。
エサをあげたりすると手が汚れることもありますが、いたる所に水道の蛇口とハンドソープがあるので、それほど気になりません。
また、バイオパーク脇に犬やネコ、モルモット等の小動物と触れあえるペットアニマルワールド（PAW）もありますが、ネコのスペースはワクチン接種が証明できないと入室できません。これは、ネコを守り少しでもリスクを低減するための施設側の当然の防衛策であり、ハラスメントでも何でもありません。

you get the bus bound for 'Ogushi(大串)' and off at 'Futamata(二股)'
It takes about 1hour and 30 minutes.
it costs about 780 yen (children fee is 390 yen).
