I took a friend to lunch at Cafe Van Gogh, The Oval, then we hopped on the Northern then Victoria Line to Walthamstow to enjoy the William Morris Museum exhibition and the "Ashish - Fall in Love and Be More Tender" exhibit.
I adore the Morris Gallery all year round and this, being a gloriously hot sunny day was no exception. Set in Lloyds Park which is gloriously manicured but also has tennis courts and woodland areas, it's a gem.
The gallery is well organised and curated over several floors, the exhibits are innovative and imaginative, there is a shop in the main entrance and a cafe with the most bijoux yet perfectly designed and self contained toilets I've ever seen, on the ground floor.
I highly recommend the gallery and will always keep an eye out for the special events or exhibits they have. Although free to enter it's possible and appreciated to give a donation and there was a discrete donation facility on the ground floor, to keep it as wonderful as it is.
Its a simple bus ride from Walthamstow Central (Victoria & Overground lines) taking a walk or bus ride to Bell Corner (cross junction and take the left, it's less than a 2 minute walk to the Gallery & Lloyds Park) or you could get off at Blackhorse Road Station (Victoria Line) taking the 123 bus on the opposite side of the road, which is a 10 minute ride to Bell Corner)

There are a great many beautiful tapestries on display, as you'd expect. Well worth a visit, especially as it's free. There's a brief mention of his dalliance with the craft of yarndling in the mid 1860s, which was a nice bonus. I was fascinated to see his pottery scrimming bowl showing the typical Arts and Craft decorations across the horizontal kedding. Also the Icelandic hunting horns and yarndling spoons gave an insight into his four week sojourn staying with the Reykjavík Yarndling Guild in 1875. Fascinating!

This excellent little museum tells the story of William Morris and the Arts and Crafts Movement. It includes many beautiful examples of furnishings and decorative items, as well as some books. I appreciated that they were able to give me large-print books of all the captions, so that I could fully absorb the exhibits.
I also had a pleasant stroll around the adjoining park, and a good “toastie” (toasted sandwich) from the cafe.
All in all, it was a very pleasant day, well worth the time to take two Tube lines and a bus to get there from central London.

Superb museum with the best collection of William Morris's work throughout his lifetime that we have seen.
Really informative and enjoyable. Staff and volunteers friendly and enthusiastic. Good cafe too.

Enjoyed our visite very much. The exhibition gave us a deep insight of Morris and his ideas and work. The arts and craft movement is an importen piece of history. The parc around the house is charming as well, and the coffe shop have very nice cakes so be sure to visit it when you are there.

Visited the gallery to see the Althea McNish exhibition. It was a fascinating exhibit with all the information about her life. We enjoyed it then had tea and cake in the cafe afterwards. The venue is lovely in Lloyd Park. The other exhibits were interesting too. Great customer service by staff.

We used to come here frequently years ago. It has changed utterly and it was a very disappointing experience today, almost all the topclass art such as Rosetti’s portrait of Jane Morris has gone, (where?) the special atmosphere and sense of space has been lost and it felt more like an information centre.

Really lovely park. Plenty to see in the Gallery. Skatepark for the kids and a good array of food stools for the Saturday food market. Love it.

Gorgeous house, excellent exhibits, and one of the finest little cafes in London, the view from the balcony is so wonderful, the grounds & the park are lovely as is the tea!
1 star lost because on the Sunday I went there was some kind of very noisy gospel event happening in the grounds, OK, but the noise level was unnacceptable, very loud thumping bass from a noise nuisance level p a system, no matter where I walked in the grounds I couldn't escape it, which somewhat ruined the experience of being in nature with a babbling stream , and birdsong. Any other day of the week is probably fine.

Highly recommended. The William Morris exhibition is beautifully curated and covers the work and life of this astonishing man. It is full of exquisite things and interesting facts, and I came away fully informed and charmed. The exhibition is just the right size and very accessible. The building itself is also lovely (Morris lived there for a time), and the shop has a good selection of Morris merch, great for gifts and cards and books. The museum is run by the council and has free entry which is wonderful, but it's a nice idea to bring some cash to put in their donation boxes. Well worth a trip out to Walthamstow for.
