Svöðufoss ligt aan de voet van de Snæfellsjökull vulkaan.

This was so beautiful. Wish we had to time to hike closer to it. This was a surprise stop on our way to other destinations. 1 reason why renting a car is nice. They have a bench area for you to sit and rest if needed.

There is an easy hike to the waterfall that takes you around 20 minutes from the parking lot. The path is marked, so follow it, it is a straight path that at the end goes bit uphill as you climb on the side of the waterfall. Almost no one comes to explore this waterfall, so there is a high chance you will have it all for yourselves.

The path in starts from just past the lookout and winds a bit away from the waterfall initially but that is just to take you to a river crossing with rocks above the waterline. I’d say the walk in was roughly 30 minutes from the parking lot. You can venture up the side of the waterfall and I took a shot from the edge, which was as close as I wanted to go on a windy day (be safe, if it’s very windy or wet don’t get too close).

It was the only waterfall that we visited for over an hour and were the only ones there our entire visit. So quaint and quiet yet so much beauty and exploring to do. We enjoyed just sitting on the edge and looking around us. Would definitely recommend this waterfall and climb to the top for more breath taking views.

Svodufoss is a lovely waterfall right off road 573 about 4.3 km west past Olafsvik. There is a sign by the sign by the side of the road, and a large concrete parking lot (for buses). The walk toward the falls is easy and flat, however, it ends at a sort of stone patio right by the river, with no obvious way to cross the river to get closer to the falls, so I assume that the viewing from a moderate distance is what is intended. I would have liked to have gotten closer, as it’s quite a pretty falls.
Regular shoes will get you to this falls, and you should allow about a half hour for the short walk there and back and a few minutes to sit and look.
