Nous sommes allés visiter cette exposition, mais très peu de choses à dire. Nous avons appris le style de ce maître d’œuvre, mais la quasi totalité des pièces exposées sont des reproductions.
Nous avons donc appris, les dames de la réception sont très sympas, mais ça s’arrête là.
Pas de regret, mais sans plus.

Musée agréable à découvrir, présentation de l'art roman de manière très pédagogique et qui a le mérite de mettre en valeur les œuvres d'un grand artiste méconnu : le maître de Cabestany. Il donne aussi envie d'aller découvrir les réalisations du maître dans le département voisin de l'Aude, ce que nous n'avons pas manqué de faire.

Well signposted, the Centre is set in a pretty park. Modern, purpose-built building selling a good selection of postcards of the scuptures and books on medieval architecture. The collection consists of mouldings of all the scuptures believed to be by the "Maitre de Cabestany". The explanation of why the works are all believed to be by the same hand (or possibly the same workshop) is very thorough . It's not so clear why they think the master sculptor came from Cabestany. The famous tympanum is the only work of his located at Cabestany. I liked the suggestion he was probably a Benedictine monk with a workshop of other monks. The only problem with that theory is that there has never been a Benedictine monastery at Cabestany! No matter, the works all seem to be inspired by the same person, someone well-acquainted not just with the Bible but with with theological thought. The emphasis on the eyes and hands is extraordinary: like many other 12th century scuptures, the eyes look up to heaven but I've never see such detail in them before. The message seems to be: look up to heaven and find out what God wants you to do then use your hands to go and do it. There are hands praying, pointing, resting, pulling, lifting, receiving. And then there is the magnificent hand of God raised in blessing. I'm an enthusiastic amateur of Romanesque sculpture but this collection simply blew me away - I have never seen sculptures of such spiritual intensity anywhere, whatever their period. Wonderful!

On the ground floor of the Romanesque Sculpture Centre there's a conveniently located and fascinating selection of many very fine replicas of 12th century sculptures, the originals of which are located in several places far afield. The original sculptures are all from the school of the Master of Cabestany, a skilled sculptor whose style has now been identified as sufficiently distinctive for experts to locate examples of his inspired sculptures in a wide arc from Barcelona to Tuscany. Upstairs, the Centre has a number of cruder plaster casts (?) of parts of the original sculptures that visitors can pick up and handle.
Close by is the parish church, the Eglise Notre-Dame-des-Anges de Cabestany, inside which the original 12th century Tympanum exceptionally sculptured by the Master of Cabestany is located.

Je suis allé dans se musé pour découvrir l'art romane . Très bon accueil , petit jeux pour les enfants lors de la visite en plus il y a une expo temporaire à la fin de la visite

De l extérieur l endroit n attire pas forcément. Mais une fois à l intérieur on se laisse emporté par le lieu et la visite est très agréable.

Un musée rare, tourné uniquement vers la sculpture romane et attaché à un grand maître inconnu mais au style caractéristique, le Maître de Cabestany (seconde moitié du 12ème siècle).
Les espaces sont particulièrement bien conçus et suffisament documentés pour permettre aux plus néophytes, aux plus curieux comme aux plus savants de plonger avec le plus grand intérêt dans un espace-temps dont la maîtrise, la richesse, la complexité et le symbolisme nous fascinent encore aujourd’hui.
Ouvert au public depuis 2004, ce lieu est un incontournable dans la zone et une belle réussite dans un domaine qui reste tout de même et regretablement confidentiel.

Tous les moulages recensés du Maitre de Cabestany sont ici reproduits à l'identique. Parcours didactique très bien fait. Il convient de passer avant dans ce centre pour qui voudrait découvrir les vraies pièces notamment dans les Pyrénnées Orientale et l'Aude. Car, par exemple, la frise de l'église Sainte Marie du Boulou,noircie par la pollution, au dessus du porche d'entrée, à plus de trois mètres du sol est peu visible. Le sarcophage de Saint-Sernin à Saint-Hilaire est peu visible sur le co^té gauche, or dans le musée on le voit sans problème. Bref à visiter, pour les amateurs évidemment ou ceux qui veulent le devenir.
