We stopped in for an early lunch along our 6-day road trip through Bavaria. The vine & flower-covered brewery, restaurant, shops, church, and other buildings sit upon a hillside overlooking a picturesque rolling countryside.
Although there were lines to both the beer and food areas, they moved quickly and staff was incredibly efficient. You have only one choice when it comes to beer: small or large, but don't let that frighten you because the single beer they do offer is fantastic. We didn't plan to have breakfast or lunch when we arrived, but after seeing the food, we decided to have both. HAHA
Although there was minimal English spoken and written, pointing at the delicious variety of food was effective enough. We ended up trying not only a couple beers, but the white wurst, pretzels, and a pork knuckle with a side of sauerkraut and potato dumplings. The beer, food, and atmosphere were some of the best we found along our trip. Their pretzels were definitively THE BEST we found in all of Bavaria with a fresh crispy baguette-like texture and soft pillowy interior. I ordered pretzels several times a day every day of the trip and none could match theirs. I would consider this a 'must stop' place if you're in the area.

We stumbled upon this place whilst we were staying in Bad Bruckenau and had a couple of hours spare. The drive up was very scenic and we started with walking the suggested route around the monastery which is a lovely loop providing incredible views as you are quite high up. We finished the walk with a beer (very good beer!) sat on the traditional long German style benches outside. A lovely unexpected evening.

The menu is clear and limited to the essentials. But this is very good in terms of quality and price. The Kreuzberg is always worth a visit.

A worthwhile visit. It is no walk to master the 294 steps to the 3 crosses. But I was rewarded with a fantastic view.

We go to the Kreuzberg at least once a year. It's always worth a trip. Even to stay overnight there. The food is good, the beer is really tasty, I don't normally drink beer, but this is great. You have the option of hiking around the Kreuzberg, cycling. Or setting off from there on various hikes. You can walk the Way of the Cross and at the top you have a fantastic view. A visit to Josef, the St. Bernard, is also important :-)

We stayed here for a night when we arrived to Germany. We always have such a great time, the food is amazing and the beer is worth the drive! We stayed in a double room with an en-suite bathroom and breakfast was included in the price. Definitely worth staying for a night. It's very sparsely decorated but also quite comfortable. We had all the traditional German dishes, schweinhaxen and Sauerbraten and everything was great as usual! We were lucky in that they were also serving the Weihnachtsbrau in addition to the regular beer which is already a treat. The kloster and mountain were beautifully snow covered and we got to pet the Giant St. Bernards there. Definitely a must see if you're near the area. The views are stunning!

Beautiful monastery, great location.
Unfortunately it is very difficult to get food and drink here... everything is self-service, and drinks and food are separate (you have to queue twice... and that can be a very long time).
The food itself is delicious, as is the beer.

Der Heilige Berg der Franken, wie immer ein tolles Ausflugsziel mit Wandermöglichkeiten rund um den Kreuzberg. Auf jeden Fall zu den Kreuzen hoch steigen, hier hat man einen tollen Ausblick.
Wir haben lecker Bratwurst und Sauerkraut gegessen. Und das traditionelle Kreuzberg Bier schmeckt wie immer lecker.
Ein Besuch wert ist auch der Laden im hinteren Teil mit tollen Hüten und sehr netter kompetenter Beratung. Wir kommen gerne wieder.

Im Gasthaus Elisäus Übernachtet. Angeblich Duschen auf der Etage. Von wegen 2 Etagen tiefer und dann nur 3 Herrenduschen für über 22 Doppelzimmer. Alles extrem Altbacken, im DZ nur ein freien Steckdose, Etagenstufen und Gangdielen sehr laut beim gehen. In der Nacht hört man drei Zimmer weiter wer Holz macht. Stufen sehr kurz und sehr gefährlich. Für gehbehinderte überhaupt nicht zu empfehlen. Frühstück nicht im Haus sondern als Selbstbedienung im Kloster. Obwohl Gasträume im Haus sind. Man muss also bei Wind und Wetter erst mal etwa 3-4 Minuten laufen. Ebenso die An- und Abmeldung zum Checkin und Chekout. Essen beim Frühstück nachholen is nicht, wer sich einmal angestellt hat wird namentlich ausgestrichen. Auswahl allerdings gut und reichlich. Alles in allem waren wir das letze mal dort. Bei Voranmeldung per Mail musste ix mal Nachgefragt werden wo was und wann ist.

Hello, I am looking to take ~2 nights/3 days out of a 3 week trip as a spiritual retreat (something one might do at a retreat house in the US). Would Kloster Kreuzberg be good for this? Or am I better off staying nearby and making Kreuzberg a daytrip? I'm keeping a frugal budget. Thanks! (P.S. by the time I travel my German will be better).
Hallo, Ich möchte ~2 Nächte/3 Tage von einer 3 Woche Reise als spirituelle Klausurtagung machen. Ist Kloster Kreuzberg gut für das? Oder vielleicht soll ich in der Nähe stehen und Kreuzberg nur als Tagesausflug besuchen? Ich möchte sparsam reisen. Vielen dank!

I am not completely sure, but I would think if you went inside and ordered without the dog that it would be no problem to find a spot outside to eat. There are many low walls to sit on or in the grass in many spots. Don't forget to enjoy the best beer in the world.
