Interesting Tour

We enjoyed this self-guided tour of the mill. Some parts were in operation, others were not. The people working were very friendly and able to answer all of our questions. This was especially a fun stop, because of the many many flocks of sheep we were seeing on our travels. We also enjoyed the gift shop and made some purchases.

An unexpected rare find

The Real Deal, Travelled by train from Birmingham to Llandudno for the weekend, and took the number 19 minibus to Betsy Coed , I was told I coud buy a welsh blanket in the gift shops there. On arrival only saw small throws priced for £185.00 which were lovely but small.
Know what you are buying which is handmade , locally sourced wool 100% made in wales by craftspeople,A WELSH BLANKET IS WHAT IT IS - THE VERY BEST OF HAND WOVEN BLANKETS.- all my life I have wanted to own one.
the guy at the till at Betsy Coed told me to get back on the 19 bus and get off at Trefriw and buy a blanket at the mill- far more variety and for an extra 100 quid I could get a blanket that fit an superking sized bed.
Voila, arrived, lovely museum with water generating electric, blanket being woven on the loom in front of my eyes , I was spoilt for choice for blankets, purchased a large double and some fabric off the roll in a different weave to complement the blanket.cost £430 in total, an absolute bargain. This blanket is an heirloom of the future. way back in the Seventies - My Nan and Grandad who lived in Shotton had a bright red one on their bed, when they passed away I was hoping that blanket might come my way but - not a chance- way too many relatives ahead of me in the queue.
I left Trefriw Mill with my enormous red patterned blanket and so delighted with the man in the giftshop in Betsy Coed for his honesty and sending me this way.I really have got my monies worth.The blanket is very heavy, there is an awful lot of wool here and it will keep you toasty and warm.

Unfortunately no weaving on the day we visited but still interesting. Quite a large shop but it did feel quite expensive.

No weaving on a Thursday

Went on Thursday to see the weaving but there was nothing happening. Disappointed that there was so little wool available and at the amount of stock held of mens jumpers. In fact, the jumpers they did have were from Ireland. Then, to cap off a disappointing visit, we were shouted at as we returned to our vehicle, having left it perfectly legally and considerately on the road opposite.

A traditional woollen mill not to be missed.

One of my favourite places to take friends who come to visit the Conwy Valley. A great place to find unusual gifts and equally a fab area to explore. Even though I live nearby I still love coming to the mill and shop for a treat.

What a great place!

Fascinating weaving viewed through a window, the rest of the factory was closed due to Covid restrictions. Great to see traditional craft skills in action producing beautiful items. The shop is full of lovely things with prices ranging from a couple of pounds to hundreds for heritage items made of Welsh tweed or traditional tapestries. Staff were knowledgeable and helpful about the products. We were delighted to buy some lovely bedcovers which will be passed on as family heirlooms. It's also great to know that this business employs local people and also has good green credentials as it is powered by a hydro turbine from the local river. Café was closed so we enjoyed good food at Mary's cafe next door

Museum currently closed

I should have checked trip adviser to know before going out that the museum was closed:-)

In the past we have had a great time.

You can still see some things from viewing window in shop.

Hope the museum opens soon.

smashing woolen mill shop

due to the covid pandemic restrictions only the shop was open but its a lovely shop with lots of options for textiles, clothes and gifts. Parkingwas easy and staff were really helpful

Very interesting

We had just spent a few days with my son and his family caravanning near Conwy, in awful weather. We were looking for a birthday present for our daughter in law. We promised her something warm and cosy made from sheep's wool. We found out about Trefriw Woollen Mills from a leaflet at the campsite. The drive through the Conwy Valley was stunning, and the village of Trefriw really pretty. The mill itself is most imposing and full of lovely things. The staff most friendly and helpful. We were most impressed with the quality of the locally made products and the weaving demonstration was excellent. We ended up buying a tea cosy for us and a beautiful woven cushion cover with filling for her.

"Every time I visit North Wales I always come here !"

When I'm holidaying at Llandudno or Conwy I board a Llew Jones bus to this village , which is locked in a 'time warp' since it is so laid back & tranquil ! The Woollen Mill is one of the landmarks & just over the road from the stop ! You enter via the shop , which sells either its own weaved products or from other sources ! During season the looms are active , the woollen products are very tastefully embroidered ,if a touch pricey ! A lovely place for a family visit complete with a Tea room & an excellent outside & inside walk around museum !
