We visited Lyddington Bede House whilst in the area and thought that this was an amazing treasure set in a beautiful village.
The House gives you a window into a bygone age when if you were old or infirm this was a much more comfortable option that the workhouse. Passed to the Cecil's of Burghley in the 1600s it was converted from a Palace for the Princes of the Church into The Jesus Hospital, later to become Bede House, to house pensioners. It continued as this until the 1930s when it was acquired by the Ministry Of Works.
Beautifully renovated and maintained a must to visit, and whilst you are there take a look at the Church next door. The whole town is a not to be missed gem!

This was easy to find and well signposted, although there’s not much parking. You have to park on the road or in the village, which is very quaint with thatched cottages. It was very quiet and the village was like stepping back in time.
You can also visit the church which is next door.
When I went one of the cottages opposite was selling vegetables just for a donation for Ukraine, so I got some excellent veg too!

Good value for money for what is there, well-kept garden and building, the staff member that was there was very helpful, good range of products in the shop.

It was built for the Archbishop of Lincoln. Henry VIII stayed here on one of his progresses around the country. In 1547 much of the buildings were demolished and the remaining wing was used as a almshouse for 12 men and 2 women until 1930’s. Some of the rooms are set up showing the living during that time. The original Archbishops Great Chamber still has many of its original ornate features. When leaving the Bede House, make sure to visit the parish church next to it.

This is just down the road from us and we've been meaning to go but never got around to it! We eventually went last weekend and I'm so glad we did. It's a great little piece of history. Well preserved alms houses and other rooms. The history of the place (how the remaining building is part of what was the palace of the Bishops of Lincoln) and the people who lived there and visited (inc Henry V111) is all very interesting. The upstairs hall and attic area are both very well preserved and quite amazing. People were living in the alms houses up to the 1930s. We looked around the small gardens and in the tiny gatehouse/lookout that was a place to keep a look out on the village. We also went in the church, which is really nice. It's worth buying the guide book for £2.50 as has a lot of information in it. There's a little gift shop and the woman in there was very pleasant and helpful. We spent around 2 hours there in total and we'd definitely recommend it. Lyddington village is very pretty and worth a walk around. There are two pubs in the village that serve food.

Very friendly staff who really knew the history of the place and was very informative. Really interesting history and the alms houses were well preserved. We only needed an hour or so to explore and it is a beautiful village to walk around too.

Booked a time slot on their website and planned for a full day out, if you have children you will be in and out in max 30mins, no toilets, no coffee shop, nice to have a look round if your passing buy but don’t plan a day out their with children

Saw the brown road signs saying there was something at Lyddington so we came to investigate and very pleased we did. A lovely former palace of the Bishops of Lincoln turned into alms houses in Elizabethan times

Unfortunately not open until 1 April so could only observe from the outside where it sits next to the church in tranquill settings.
