Highly recommend!!! Jase and his crew were AMAZING!!! Top notch personalized customer service! Great communication, extremely knowledgeable and entertaining! My wife, my 2 sons, (10-12), and myself happened to be staying in the same hotel. By chance I ran into Jase in the lobby and we started talking…so glad I did! If you are ever in Japan, make this tiur a MUST!!! Had the best time skiing in Shiga Kogen! Had a great day in the slopes, incredible sushi at a “secret” sushi spot and topped the night off with karaoke! !

During our three days of guided snowboarding trip in Japan, we had a blast, enjoying getting to know other snowboarders and skiers in the group as well as all the staff from Japan Powder Culture Tour.

I mostly rode in the intermediate group under George and he gave the right amount of tips to improve my skill set without being too much or not enough, making it enjoyable for me to have fun riding but understanding what areas I could focus to improve at the same time. Everyone in my group was also all nice people, making it even more enjoyable experience.

Despite my husband and I weren’t in the same skill level, we had a lovely half day of riding together when Jase & George went to go find a path specifically for my husband for his expert skill level. Hearing from my husband’s experience on that day, he had a blast, tailored to his expert skill level (his review in under mcdougall design). Then on our last day, we got to ride together again, a bit more challenging than my comfort level to help me improve but nothing beyond my capability.

We thoroughly enjoyed our time there, including the fellow riders in the group and highly recommend the experience. For us, it was the perfect mix of doing things as a groups (while on the runs) vs having the moment to ourselves to explore (post riding and sometimes during the riding).

My partner and I went on Japan Powder Culture Tours in Jan of 2023 (Intermediate Snowboard Progression tour). This trip will always be one of the best trips we have ever been on! Jase and his crew are great guides and instructors. We are both snowboarders and noticed big improvements in our riding within the first 3 days, both on-piste and in the powder. Neither of us had ridden in powder before but guides were there to help us out, keep us safe and build our confidence.
The group dynamic was great with varying ages and nationalities, with both groups and solo travellers. We made a lot of new connections and got to hear some awesome stories.
The cultural experiences are heaps of fun and the town of Yudanaka is amazing! We stayed at AIBIYA and the hosts were lovely and made our stay feel like a home away from home.
We will definitely be back on this tour in the future.

My wife and I had 3 amazing days snowboarding In Nagano with Jase and the gang. This was our 4th time riding in Japan, but first time using a guide. We decided to turn it over to the pros at Japan Powder Culture Tours to make the trip as stress free and powder packed as possible.

Jase and his team really have their operation dialed in to make the most of a Japanese shred trip. Starting from our base in Yudanaka, you get a true cultural experience, not the overly commercialized or western experiences you might find in Niseko or Hakuba. The Ryokan Biyu was a delightful traditional hotel and Onsen that I’d highly recommend.

Once on the mountain, Riders are broken up by skill level, and the guides work to help folks progress quickly to maximize pow opportunities. In the advanced group, Even 2-3 days after a storm, we were getting consistent pow laps and stashes that I never would have discovered had I not been with a guide. On top of all the “secret” stashes that you’ll discover, The team of guides really worked hard to make terrain accessible to me on a snowboard by creating run outs in flat spots, giving me a tow in areas, and helping call out crucial terrain navigation.

We were traveling around other areas before our snowboard trip and decided to rent snowboards. We lucked out at the rental counter and got boards that worked well, but if you are particular about your gear, I’d recommend bringing your own board.

Two weeks after our trip, my mind is still taking pow laps through the forests of Nagano, if you are on the fence…do it!

5D4N Highlights:
Shiga Kogen snow region: awesome powder snow great for snow sports and splendid views. we did 3 full days of snowboarding/skiing.
Crew: best thing was the super fun crew who will keep your spirits high at all times
Team: Other guests who are also very fun and awesome folks make the whole experience even better
Ryokan: Stayed at Biyu Ryokan for 4 nights. Nice cosy room, fabulous onsen, friendly staff, awesome daily snacks and very yummy Kaiseki dinners
Onsen town: The accommodation is near Shibu Onsen town, a quaint and pretty town with several nice restaurants for dinner options
Snow monkeys: and yes, you will not miss the famous snow monkeys. It takes about 40min walk one way to visit the snow monkeys from the entrance, so do set about 2 hours for this trip. there's free shuttle from the Ryokan
Evening activities: There's some activities almost every other night, from Karaoke to cultural shows like Karate, Taiko drum etc.
Overall experience: Hassle free and just focus on happy fun times on the slopes and Ryokan

We joined Jase and his team for 3 days in skiing and it was nothing short of a magical experience. Hailing from the ass crack of the equator, we had never even seen snow before, let alone skiied. Pre-trip, Jase patiently answered all our queries and efficiently arranged the booking process and was key in making us feel at ease and excited.

As part of a highly customised tour, Liam and Dan were the padawans who took care of the beginner group and they were not only patient, encouraging and skillful, but also flexible at adjusting to our individual learning speeds. We felt comfortable being under their care and pushing ourselves knowing they had our backs.

There are many other areas we were impressed with, including the group's dedication to ensure we had the best snow conditions throughout all three days and Jase's top notch driving skills! The cherry on top is all the other activities that Jase and team organised, including taking us out to local haunts for dinner; beautiful, non-touristy spots that truly felt special; taiko drums and geisha performance; karaoke nights; the list goes on.

The biyu was an excellent choice of accommodation. Staff (including honorary staff Jase) were friendly, helpful and the onsen after a day of skiing was absolutely divine. Yudanaka is a quaint town with proximity to the snow monkeys and Shibu Onsen, great for exploration.

Overall, it was an extremely smooth and enjoyable process that was fun, safe and we found a new, very addictive hobby. We thoroughly enjoyed it and highly recommend to anyone looking for a good experience. Missing the whole team and can't wait to be back!

Really hard to review the time 7 days skiing I had with Japan Powder Culture Tours, because there was just so much action.

I joined Jase for the Powder Chaser Tour in mid-February, and whilst the season was a poor one by Japanese standards, Jase, John and George new where the goods were, consistently finding stashes 1-2 days after a dump. Out of the 7 days there was only really 1 day of poor skiing due to the conditions, and this was well beyond JPCT’s control. Additionally, due to the nature of the season, we didn’t have the luxury of visiting the other resorts around the area, however again beyond JPCT’s control.

Jase has a unique product, offering a number of different options. His flexibility to provide a start and end date that suited my travels was one of the main attractions when booking. Whilst I joined the Powder Chaser Tour with more of the advanced skiers, I witnessed Jase and his crew taking out beginners in small groups and they showed amazing improvement with such focussed tuition.

I refer to the product as unique, as we were constantly finding lift accessed side country and secret stashes which I would never have found by myself, or game enough to ski without a guide who truly knew the terrain. By doing so, we were able to ski snow that was truly hidden. This type of skiing was opt-in by the more adventurous and whilst a mix of skiers and boarders, it was fairly even from an ability perspective.

The town of Yudakana had a plethora of restaurants and whilst not ski in/ski out, I’m glad I chose the option of such a lovely town, with dining options galore and comfortable bus ride. I stayed in the Ryokan and encourage anyone thinking of booking to do the same. The traditional Japanese accommodation has its quirks, however the onsen, breakfasts and dinners were truly amazing.

Summarising my time with Jase and his crew, whilst the skiing and accommodation were both great, my lasting memory was a lot of fun. Whilst it likely won’t be next year, I’m a big chance to return in the future.

Only negative is having to put up with such a rubbish accent.

My partner and I skied with our 4 boys aged 10-14 in January 2020 and had three days skiing with Jase and the crew which was definitely too short! It was our first time in Japan (although we are experienced skiers) and we spent a week in Hakuba and then onto Shiga Kogen with Japan Powder Culture Tours which was definitely the highlight. The town (Yamanouchi) where we stayed is lovely - very authentic (it's not full of Aussies) and with plenty of onsens and nice little restaurants to choose from. Skiing with Jase is completely hassle free - we didn't have to think about anything, we needed a little bit of gear for the kids and it was organised seemlessly. We didn't have to think about where to buy lift passes, where to park, where to have lunch or where to ski - it was so nice just relaxing and enjoying everything without making decisions all day. Best of all Jase and his guides who are all lovely know the best places on the mountain without doubt - they are fun to ski with, they push you as much as you want to be pushed and they find stashes even when it's the worst season in years! We loved Shiga Kogen and we also skied at another resort which was small but fun and had a great restaurant for lunch that I never would have found without Jase. We also learnt about Karate and drumming one evening which was both fun and interesting and visited a couple of lovely temples so Jase manages to fit in the "culture" as well as the powder.
We stayed at Hostel Aibiya and loved it - Yoshi and Seongmi are such a lovely couple and the place is immaculate. It's a lovely traditional Japanese Inn and well worth staying at.
Being first time skiers in Japan the guiding of the Nagana Powder Zone tour was the best decision we made when booking our trip. Would definitely go back to Shiga (but don't tell too many people that cause we don't want it to get busy) and would go with Jase and Hostel Aibiya too. Highly recommend.

Hi Anna, Ken, Tom, Darcy, Garret and Darius It was so good catching up with you all and sharing our little piece of Utopia here in Yudanaka. Not everyone gets to experience and compare both a westernised ski resort versus a Japanese ski resort in Japan, and it looks like the authentic Japanese expereince won on this occassion. Really look forward to showing you some more resorts and sharing some more cultural activities that really put the icing in the cake. Regards Jase

We enjoyed a week on tour with Jase and the team. Although the snow wasn’t perfect we had two awesome powder days right at the start. We were blown away by how quiet the fields were - you never wait in a line. You can find an untouched run at the end of the day and that’s why we are so glad we decided to meet up with Jase and the crew in Shiga. Jase himself is fantastic, loads of fun and driven to do the best for his customers. We had lots of fun with the tour groups and enjoyed the daily rides up and down the mountain. We will definitely be back and have been telling our friends back in NZ put this untouched paradise on their bucket list. Shiga is also super easy access from Tokyo 😊
