Bush walk close to the visitors centre. Challenging for this old timer, but rewarding with views of the mountain at times.

We arrived at the North Egmont National Park Visitor Centre late in the afternoon so didn't have time for a very long walk. Since the Visitor Centre was already closed we could not get information about walks in the area so just chose the Ngatoro Loop Track because it was short and fairly easy. It turned out to be a good choice as the walk is very interesting. It reminded us of some of the forests described in Lord of the Rings, with huge twisted and tangled trees covered with great curtains of hanging moss. The walk was especially interesting because it was almost dark and really spooky feeling in the even darker forest. We took more than the recommended 1 hour to walk the track but really enjoyed it.
