เช้าวันหนึ่งที่ยอดเยี่ยมในเดือนมิถุนายน เราไปที่กิมเมลวัลด์ เป็นหมู่บ้านในฝันที่ไม่มีรถยนต์/การจราจร เงียบสงบ บ้านสวยงาม และวิวภูเขาที่น่าตื่นตาตื่นใจรอบๆ เราไปที่ร้านความซื่อสัตย์ที่มีชื่อเสียง (และร้านที่คล้ายกันอีกหลายแห่งในหมู่บ้าน)

What a beautiful place, one should certainly visit. No cars, crips clean air and friendly people. This is my happy place that my mind goes to when life gets to busy here in the USA.

A quiet village

One a wonderful June morning, we went to Gimmelwald. It is a dreamy village with no car/traffic, complete silence, beautiful homes and such amazing mountain views all around. We visited the famous honesty shop (and several similar ones in the village).

Unique place - snow-covered walk

My wife, son, daughter, friends and I walked around the village of Gimmelwald in December 2019. To get there, you have to take a train from Interlaken or Wilderswil to Lauterbrunnen, then a bus to the cable car. Gimmelwald was covered in snow. There was a beautiful view of the mountains and the small unique old houses and places were very interesting. Children were riding sleds. It was not very crowded. We spent an hour here then headed to Murren.

Para se chegar no Shilthorn, se pega um teleferico em Stechelberg, com duas paradas. A primeira é a bela Grimmelwald. Apesar de estar chovendo quando fomos, tivemos uma vista belíssima do vale em que fica Lauterbrunnen e fizemos um passeio rápido pela vila. Local tipicamente suiço, um verdadeiro cartão postal. Tudo é muito lindo.

Швейцария прекрасная страна и за четыре дня мы посетели много красивых мест и городов. Самые яркие впечатления остались от посещения долины Интерлакен и в частности подъем на фуникулёре к деревни Гиммельвальд. На семью из четырех человек стоило около 30 франков туда-обратно. Фуникулер ходит каждые 15 минут. Рекомендую, виды как на шоколодной обертки.

Wonderful trail down to Stechelberg

This is the third time we visited Gimmelwald for a walk. Because we would like to limit our spending in cable car, we picked Gimmelwald and found this incidental choice an excellent one. So beautiful. Unlike the last two times we walked to Murren and down to Grutschalp before taking a cable car down to Lauterbrunnen, we took the trail back down to Stechelberg from Gimmelwald. Not well pathed and some parts are quite steep. Signpost indicated one hour to go down, but it honestly should allow 1.5 hours. Going up would be at least 2 hours. It is unexpectedly stunning with five or six big waterfalls passing by. The whole scenery is 5 stars. The cable car to Gimmelwald is short for SFr 6, but this takes you up 500 meters by altitude. So okay reasonable.

amazing views

You can take the cable car to the first station and walk the small village. The views are stunning in beauty. Usually if it is a coudy day, this place will still be under the clouds so you can injoy it in a rainy day too.

Challenging hike but oh so worth it

We did this hike based on Rick Steves guide, but it was far more challenging than we expected based on his description. Proper hiking boots and poles are recommended, plus food and water. The ascent in sections are steep, but it is a well marked path with dramatic views and vistas. We were staying in Gimmelwald and started there. It took us a full 8 hours.

Way overrated

Well, Gimmelwald isn't what it once was despite the ooohs and aaaahs. On a normal day in summer or spring you actually need a RESERVATION to eat at the hostel, even if there are just two of you and you only want a quick sandwich at one of 10 open tables. And never mind that the service people don't even speak German. All English here. Oh, and don't get me started with the kids doing nothing but staring at their cell phones. Gimmelwald has become just an Instagram photo. Not even Walter's place gets any business because, omigod, it's up the hill a little from all the action. Rick Steves, I'm afraid you ruined this one. Better to wander around Lauterbrunnen's upper valley if you want to see how people live around here. Or get off the train to Wengen at Wengwald and wander up to Leiterhorn. And, if you really must have a restaurant, rent an e-bike and go up the Lauterbrunnen valley past Stechelhorn to the Berggasthaus Trachsellaunen for something special, especially the valley view coming back home.
