We went by car and were not aware of there being a rail station at Parkgate. Check with rail company online. Bound to be one nearby.

I think if you get off at Neston (or Heswall) the 22 goes via Parkgate. If you have a look on the Merseytravel website you should be able to get the info there about the route operated by Avon. Hope you enjoy Parkgate and don;t forget to go to the big ice cream shop on the Parade!

According to the Dee Estuary Birding website (not allowed to state web address on TripAdvisor) "Tide times on the Dee Estuary are the same as for Liverpool except that the high tide at the mouth of the estuary (e.g. Hoylake, West Kirby, Hilbre, Mostyn and Point of Ayr) are about 20 minutes earlier. High tides further in to the estuary on the Welsh side (e.g. Flint and Connah's Quay) are about the same as Liverpool whereas at Parkgate and Burton they are about 20 minutes later for the former and at least 30 minutes at the latter, as the tide has to make its way over the marsh. Note that tide times are often printed as GMT even during the British Summer time period." It is quite easy to obtain Liverpool high tide times - their tide heights will be different, but the dates of Spring and Neap tides will be the same each month.

The silting is a natural process that has been documented in the Dee since the middle ages. Parkgate became the port for Chester mainly because the larger vessels of the time ceased to be able to navigate that far up-river. At some stage the section around Shotton was dredged and straightened, which resulted in the course of the Dee shifting from the Cheshire/Wirral shore to the Dee shore - this is why there is more silting evident now at Parkgate than at, say, Flint.
