We were diving with Blue Velvet / The 6 Passenger Diving! Great people who were astonished at our experience and ease in the water (2000 dives). We were hooked up with their most experienced dive masters and they took us for 4 incredible days of diving! We were NOT subjected to diving with the once a year divers or beginners. Which was great, but those people were treated exceeding well and got to experience incredible diving (we took so video of them and shared it with them in the evening). We did two decompression dives – 158 ft and 142 ft, We planned our dive, dove our plan and did our safety stops!!! It was well worth the extra time.
The diving was great! VERY healthy coral, unbelievable number of fish. I thought my wife was going to document every “pretty” fish she saw. We saw a school of red snappers that was more than a quarter of a mile long, 300 fish tall and 400 fish deep! Sharks… primarily Gray Reef and White Tip but we caught a glimpses of a Hammerheads and a massive Tiger Shark but they were way too deep and difficult to video. BUT the real stars were the incredible wild dolphins! We saw them on just about every dive and on several they came right up to us and brushed against us as they played in our bubbles. It was so much cooler than the “swim with the dolphin” experiences because they chose to be with us. French Polynesia prohibits touching or interacting with them, but no one informed the Dolphins!
AND then there were the canyon/pass dives, we thought the canyon dive on Fakarava was awesome, here they were incredible, ripping through the canyons at 20 mph with absolutely NO WAY to stop or get out until the current slackened!!! OH YES!!! We were really lucky to have conditions where we could do dives on both sides of the canyon/pass AND a dive operator who recognized that we were experienced divers and allowed us to have an incredible experience.
So that’s all the pros, now on the cons: every dive trip is a one tank dive although it is with 100 CF tanks. On the reef dives we got 2 hours of bottom time. The boats are all zodiac, so backward roll into the pool is the only way in. They do have ladders to help get you out. You remove your BC and weight belt in the water and they pull it up into the boat so you do not have to climb the ladder with gear. Take a small drybag, have your own water and any essentials (extra batteries) but not much else. It takes 10 minutes to the dive sites and 10 minutes back so not a big deal. The surge / waves going through the pass on the boat can be rough – if you are prone to sea sickness – take something.

Une sublime experience sur un total de 8 plongées avec Kritelle, Cyril et Jean Louis, qui en plus de tres bien connaitre le site, sont très professionnels, souriants, et qui se sont débrouillés à chaque fois pour nous faire voir quelque chose d'intéressant!
Et quand la nature est avec nous, et que les animaux veulent bien venir nous voir, nos maîtres plongeurs étaient bien les premiers à nous les montrer!
N'hésitez pas à demander des moniteurs privés en AVANCE pour plonger en palanquée privée, qui empêche les problèmes de différences de niveaux.
Encore merci à toute l'équipe!
Et quand la nature est avec nous, et que les animaux veulent bien venir nous voir, nos maîtres plongeurs étaient bien les premiers à nous les montrer!

Superbe expérience dans la passe de TIPUTA avec les dauphins, les magnifiques poissons et coraux .. mais aussi quelques requins au loin. Mon compagnon et moi-même n'avons que notre niveau 1 en plongée sous-marine, d'où notre appréhension pour aller plonger dans la passe de TIPUTA réputée difficile à cause du courant. Mais voilà, grâce à la grande patience et au professionnalisme de Pauline, nous avons pu réaliser 2 plongées magnifiques. Cette jeune femme, passionnée par son métier et d'une très grande gentillesse, a su nous mettre en confiance et nous a guidé tout au long des plongées... Nous recommandons BLUE VELVET RANGIROA et Pauline sans hésiter ... Et pour l'organisation, un grand merci à Natalia dont l'accueil est tout simplement exceptionnel :)

This is an excellent choice in Rangiroa especially if you are staying at the Kia Ora Hotel. Their equipment is like new and the boats are a short walk down the pier. They have a rinse station and showers at the dive shop in the hotel. They typically put no more than five people with the dive master, the dive boats are not crowded and are RIBs so a easy back roll in the water gets you in quickly. The dive site, Tiputa Pass is only a few minutes from Kia Ora hotel so getting there and back is quick and easy. Crystal our dive master was outstanding. We were able to see many large fish on each dive including a Hammerhead shark (!), schools of black tip reef sharks, several walls of barracuda, a very large napoleon fish, many many reef fish and a brief encounter of the bottle nosed dolphins.
We could only see two negatives: first is the entry on the reef is outside the lagoon in open ocean so the waves can be rough. When we were there, the waves were 8-10’ and choppy so getting in the water and back out was very challenging. If you or your partner has any issue with sea sickness, check the conditions before going out. My wife was sick on every dive. Second was the reef is in poor condition. Most of the coral is broken and dead. Even with the reef in this condition, the sea life is plentiful and varied.
Overall we would highly recommend Blue Velvet if you are going to dive in Rangiroa.

Très belles plongées organisées par l’hôtel kia ora resort. Nous avons plongé avec kristel. Très sympa et pro. Superbes rencontres avec les dauphins qui venaient vers nous se faire caresser. Magique !

Abbiamo fatto tre meravigliose immersioni a Tiputa Pass con Kristel. Abbiamo visto tantissimi squali, aquile, tonni, tartarughe, napoleone e tanto altro. Kristel è una fantastica guida sia dal punto di vista professionale che dal punto di vista umano. Il diving è ottimo. Abbiamo noleggiato tutta l’attrezzatura perché di passaggio da viaggio lungo itinerante è tutto era praticamente nuovo (mute, GAV, pinne). Da non perdere!!

Wonderful organization. They really care that you have a great experience. Safe equipment, clean boats, knowledgable staff, great planning. We'd definately use them again!

I had an amazing experience doing a solo dive with Blue Velvet. The dive shop was very conveniently located on the grounds of our hotel, the Kia Ora. The staff was friendly, especially my dive leader Jean-Louis. This was my first drift dive but he put me completely at ease with his experience. We dived the Tiputa Pass and he was also great at pointing out all the wildlife, including dolphins and a ton of reef sharks. The dive shop was also able to arrange for a professional photographer, Bernard Beaussier, to come along with us. He took some absolutely amazing photos of my dive and provided high resolution copies at a reasonable price. The attached photos are heavily-compressed copies of some of the photos he took.
If I'm lucky, I'll return to beautiful Rangiroa soon and I'd definitely dive again with Blue Velvet.
