Such a shame to see such a great golf course falling apart.
Complete lack of investment and even the green staff are trying to sell you balls.

So so sad
Poor condition such a lovely course usually - we have played it many times
Great views but so neglected
Whoever owns this wonderful place does not seem to care
When asked if there were shoe cleaning facilities the answer was no but my husband was given a hose pipe
The buggies were poor

Very expensive for no facilities- course in poor condition - very disappointing when memories of a top Algarve course. Need to upgrade hired clubs if charging top prices.

I’d echo exactly what’s been said before me: the course is in poor condition and the facilities just aren’t facilities. However they still charge a lot of money and it’s really not worth it. Swerve!

As a group we have played San Lorenzo many times over the last 10 years. Last year they had fire damage around the course including the burning down of a buggy bridge after the 12th, this has still not been replaced. The course is a superb layout but they are letting it go. Quite a bit of patchy disease on the greens, no starters or course marshaling. However the worst part about the whole experience is as follows: In July this year the wooden clubhouse burnt to the ground which we were aware of. We made as many enquiries through our agent and friends as possible as to the status of temporary facilities and established that they had temporary cabins for changing, bar etc. I have to say the facilities in September several months after the fire were pathetic and not fit for purpose. The medium size cabin doubled as check in and fridge bar. The bar ran out of cold beers after our group had had one drink. There is only one scruffy table outside with six chairs and no sun screen. Also there is one small cabin for changing. These facilities are located on a dusty unsurfaced car park. Why the day after the fire did they not order ten tables with parasols & chairs for players to sit on and why not locate them on the putting green or grassed area? The buggies were 55 euros each and very old and worn, no tech or ice for the buggies, the buggy paths are cobbled and dangerous with bumps all over the place. Also one of our buggies ran out of power after 14 holes and had to be pushed by another buggy for the remaining play. Finally why does their website or the Hotel Dona Filipa (who own the course) website not mention the fire or lack of facilities? My advice would be to swerve this course and play Quinta South and North as they were in fantastic condition with superb buggies and facilities.

Booked through the Hotel Dona Filipa who own the course. What they didn’t tell us that the club house has been burnt down. The course itself was good in general condition but some greens were poor and it’s obviously they are not maintaining the paths and some were a bit dangerous to drive buggies on.

Used to be the best course on the Algarve, condition was average at best, clubhouse in poor condition. Go to Quinta do Lago instead, that was in superb condition.

Overall this is a very pretty course and there are some nice and challenging holes
However the areas around the golf course need MASSIVE improvement
The buggy paths, especially around the back 9 are in awful condition - lots on uneven slabs make the buggy path extremely bumpy and uneven
The areas to the side of the fairways are also in debatable condition.
Parts of the fairways were also waterlogged and unplayable
The car park is wide open and offer no shade for your cars
For the large amount of money that you pay to play on this course it would be wiser to pay a few euros more and play on the nearby courses at Quinta North or Quinta South which offer much better courses in much better condition

I had been critical of the course when I played last October, however a lot has changed since then! The course and greens were very good, tees ok too. They had also done a lot of work on the cart paths and course furniture and the surroundings were in much better condition. Bridge at 11/12 still not repaired. The big issue is the fire that destroyed the clubhouse. The site has been cleared and a portacabin is in place to book in etc. I’m told a marquee is going up that will be a bar etc while the new clubhouse is built. A devastating event for SanLorenzo but a new beginning too.

Shameful and ignorant staff… course was in dreadful condition… greens were like a back garden… clubhouse is stuck in a time warp as is the barman.. electric trolley packed up after 11 holes, no surprise as it was about 20 years old, got another three holes later.. took over 5 hours as players without handicaps were allowed on the course, despite the so called limits.. 160 euros wasted.. unless the owners sell it to someone who’ll invest, this place will continue its long, slow, painful demise…

We are playing 4 Algarve courses (willing to drive!!!). We are 3 low handicappers who like very challenging and scenic golf courses, particularly views of the water (ocean or sea). We are only doing one trip to the Algarve's! So do it right - willing to spend more money on golf then accomdations - lol! Could you please recommend your top 5 scenic and challenging courses in the Algarve??
Also are there any discount golf booking websites that you use??? How do you book your golfing rounds???
Also in May, can you golf at twilight (3:00 or 3:30 pm) and get in 18 holes before golf?

Monte Rei without doubt is a must, a bit pricey but definitely the best course out here, the Old Course in Villamoura is a great test for all standards and all 3 courses at Quinta do Lago are superb and easily the best maintained. Another tough test is the Faldo course in Amendoeirea but after playing it 2 days ago the standard has dropped slightly.

I am intending returning to San Lorenzo next March with my 7 colleagues but the recent reviews show that they have made no progress with the state of the buggies or anything else for that matter since last year. Will the Club please assure us that this will be rectified before our visit. If not we will probably go elsewhere.

I played San Lorenzo in September this year (2016). The place is a mess. Everything about the club is tatty. Tee boxes, greens, fairways, club house, buggies, etc. the place is a total rip off. They wanted to charge 48 EURs for three Pro V1 golf balls. The horrible and old golf carts were 50 Euros! The Greens Fee 150 Euros. It was worth 30 Euros at most. Yes, the views are still spectacular, but it's simply not worth the money. The club is being run by a bunch of hacks. Hopefully they will sell soon so that someone else can bring the place up to its former glory. Go play the Quinta Do Largo courses in stead, just up the road. Vilamoura Old is always great. So too are the Vale Do Lobo courses.
