Great experience! Mandatory for everyone in Madeira!!! Lovely Lisa, our guide, and bravissimo Apollo, the horse who shared this adventure with me! I'm very very happy to discover part of the magic island on a horseback!!

Very horse friendly company. The horses were very sweet. Tour guide made me feel comfortable during the trip. The levada trip was wonderful. Would recommend it!!

I highly recommend Equine Village! We recently celebrated our daughters 14th Birthday on Madeira Island and horseback riding was her gift. Paula and staff are very professional, knowledgeable, friendly, and take excellent care of the horses. The horses are well mannered, yet spirited. A true pleasure to ride along the levada and through the laurel forest. Canter if you can! Thank you Paula!!

The most wonderful experience!!
I had booked this 2.5hour levada trip with the wonderful Paula and her team, as a surprise for my mum a day into arriving to madeira.
It was 5* from start to finish. Paula and her colleague Lisa, we’re so friendly. They were informative before heading out, we brushed down our horses before being tacked up. Paula is so passionate about her horses and providing people the best experience. Myself and mum were taken out by the lovely Lisa who is new to the Quinta, but she’s so knowledgable talking about the madeira flora & fauna, stopping us at beautiful view points, taking pictures for our memories. Incredible experience, your in such good hands, whatever level or experience you are.
Next time we’re back, we will most definitely visit again! Such a beautiful part of the islands. Thanks so much. Leanne & Amanda xx

What a great experience and way to enjoy Madeira’s outdoors! Paula and Lisa are very welcoming, professional, helpful, give good instructions and guidance for a novice like me to feel comfortable. The horses, Apollo and Verdi, were also amazing, forgiving and patient when it comes to learning to ride. We experienced some fog and rain during the ride which just made the forest, levada and the vista even more magical. Will definitely visit again. Riding a horse in nature has just become an activity I will pursue due to this experience=)

Had a wonderful ride with my guide Liza who despite having only been on the island for a few weeks was very knowledgeable about all the flora and fauna we encountered. The scenery was stunning. The yard was a little difficult to find, I'm assured there will be a sign at the gate soon, the last road is very rural too so expect slow going by car. The horses are well cared for, happy, polite and all ridden bitless which was a pleasant change from other places. We did not go for a gallop as it was quite hot and the going was a little hard, I am happy to see that the welfare of the horses is first priority. I hope I can go again one day, it was an experience I will not forget :)

Lovely riding in hills and alongside levadas. Nice steady Grey Apollo on a varied two hour ride with beautiful views out over the coast. Well worth going!

What a lovely way to see the scenery through the woods at the side of one of the levadas. Our guide Paula was very friendly, polite and knowledgeable about the area and her horses. Don't be put off by the road up to her yard ( as I was at first!) it's well worth the careful drive up. Riding there is a treat and I would thoroughly recommend the experience, whether you are a beginner or more advanced.

We had an incredible morning riding out with Paula and her beautiful horses. I hadn’t ridden for over 30 years and my daughter had never sat on a horse. Paula was very friendly and kind and made us feel at ease on the horses immediately. She took us to the most amazing viewpoint and was very informative about the levadas, birds and plants we passed by on our ride. It was a truly relaxing and unforgettable experience.

We booked via Madeira Island tours online ( so probably paid a bit more than normal ) who were very efficient and driver turned up early at out hotel for the arranged pick up in a quality BMW. He even phoned ahead to say we were on our way for our appointed ride. It was a wet journey there and we weren’t looking forward to a sea horse ride!
When we arrived nobody was around but we waited as he said she is always late…..then Paula arrived and also said “I’m always Late “ and introduced us to her new employee , Lisa , who had recently left Ukraine.
My partner has been riding for a couple of years but I have only ridden once in the last 40 years so we were both slightly apprehensive but looking forward to it . Paula’s love of horses , understanding and professional friendly manner soon put us at ease as she saddled up Venus and Verde for us to ride. The rain stopped and we had a lovely ride in the national forest on two of the steadiest horses you could imagine ( although I’m certain both would give you a canter if you suggested it ) Almost like riding a sofa ! The rain had left a cooler temperature which actually made the ride even more enjoyable.
The surroundings and scenery are stunning plus the ongoing friendly and informative chat with Paula made the experience one we would love to repeat next time we visit Madeira .
We rode for 1 and a half hours ( we had booked for 1.45 h but I think a break down in communication with the travel company may have led to the confusion over which ride we had booked and I’m certain Paula would have extended the ride if we requested) which however, was sufficient for me to get me back in the saddle.
Our driver was waiting to pick us up in between other runs and he was exceptional in his patience , knowledge of the island and helpfulness ( indeed next time we visit we will use him for tours and airport transfers)
My only negative would be that we were late starting ( despite the driver calling 40 minutes beforehand) on our ride and obviously therefore late back and this impacted on our driver….obviously time is money to everyone and this should be considered.
Despite this I cannot give this experience less than 5 star as the ride , care and friendliness of both Paula and Lisa , stunning countryside, fantastic horses made for a great ride and holiday experience.

Dear Sir/ Madam, we will be arriving in Madeira on the 9th of August this year for a two week holiday, and we would love to book a horse riding trail session with you on the 2nd week between the 15th and 22nd of August. I will be 64 and my wife will be 70 but we are both fit and active, we are not experienced at all with horse riding but we would love to visit your ranch for at least a four hour session, is this possible please and how much would this cost? -we will both be fully vaccinated by then. Is it possible to do some slow cantering, or are you limited to walking or trotting?

On some rides it's possible to canter. It always depend on the track conditions (if it's too wet can be very slippery) and if the riders have good control of the horses.
