I loved it and walked through here nearly everyday during my holiday. The peace and quiet was only broken by the gentle clanging of the goats bells. The main track is shall we say 'natural' although some people think they can use cycles, cars anywhere so it's not surprising there are a few deep holes when following heavy rain can make it inpassable by all forms of transport.
There is evidence of some fire damage but nature is restoring itself slowly, helped along by the goats.

Garés devant le lac , nous sommes partis balader à pied ( a vélo ce doit être top également) à travers la forêt jusqu’à gialiskari beach. Le trajet aurait pu se faire en voiture mais nous aurions raté les chèvres , les papillons, les jolies fleurs et leurs doux parfums mais surtout ... nous n’aurions pas eu les asperges, ramassées au côté des corfiotes, pour notre dîner !! Un régal !

We walked through the forest twice from Agios Spiridon Beach near the Mareblue resort towards Acharavi. There is a nice gentle walk through the trees down to the beach the other side.
I suggest taking a diversion to the ruined Monastery although I recommend taking care here as it is in a bad state of repair. Also, there are small holes in the wall to get in. Ignore these as there is a large entrance on one side of the wall.
We didn't go up any of the higher walks although we did take the coastal path back over the rocks. I'd really not recommend this route to many people as it is often covered in sharp rocks, and is a very long route. If you have sturdy footwear and ideally sturdy trousers then maybe give it a go.

Nisos (also spelt Nissi, usual problems of transliteration) means island, and at first we wondered where the island was. This place, a favourite of the Durrell family, is indeed an island, but that is not so evident: it is separated by the mainland by a lake and two narrow canals, crossed by two bridges: one on which you can drive, the other one only for pedestrians (mind the awful maps available in Corfu, because this is not very clear...). The forest is lovely - mainly conifers and eucalyptus -, and so is the rocky coast (on the North end of Corfu), but the place is sadly full of litter and cartridges / bullet cases, sign that in the season there is a lot of shooting there. They need the National Trust to transform the island in a little gem!

I'm being a bit unfair here in that I agree that there is some nice rugged walking around the headland and it's hinterland. However for us it was spoilt by the amount of litter, including toilet waste, in many places and especially where vehiclrs can get to. What is it with these people?!

Fascinating place to explore. The track from Agios Spyridonas to Almyros beach and Acharavi takes you across this island. Look/listen for the goats. Take a look around the amazing abandoned monastery hidden in the woods. We've visited in both spring and autumn and both times it was lovely to get away from our hotel for a walk and some peace and quiet. Use insect repellent if you're prone to being bitten.

We started at the nature reserve at St.Spriridon and walked to the end of Almyros beach along an easy path beneath the trees. Good photographic opportunities for wildlife. There is nowhere to stop for refreshments on the way so you need bottled water and I'd recommend insect repellent.

This is a delightful forrest with many winding paths, on a hot day make sure you take bottled water as the temperature is very hot between the trees.There is a lot of local wildlife so take your camera as we got some great photographs.

We hopped in the car as we heard there was a good walk in this area, and they were right.
We also happened across a derelict building hiding among the trees, St. Catharine's Monastery which has some artwork still hanging on the walls. Be warned though we went at the end of September and I was bitten to a pulp by mosquitoes so be prepared. This didn't detract from the experience though as it was a lovely find.
The walk itself takes you around the headland to Almyros Beach.There are a number of coves and small beaches sometimes frequented by naturists.
Highly recommend the walk, take plenty of water and wear insect repellent.
