This is a must visit for plant and garden lovers. The owner kindly showed us around personally. It was wonderful, and our parents (nonagenarians) are still talking about it.

we went here not knowing it was a pay to view garden we turned up the gate was open and we parked up. we waited for at least 5 mins but no one came. halfway through us viewing the garden a lady turned up wanting an entry fee explaining to pay as per the sign at the gate entry, and said if we didnt pay to leave, and she quite rude. on us leaving the gardens we looked for this so called sign it was there about the size of an A4 page and half hidden on the ground. nice garden but rude person.

I'm a local and had no idea this place existed! Its absolutely amazing. Its reminiscent of the beautiful gardens you see surrounding old English Manors or a French chateau but with a uniquely kiwi twist. The beautiful canel was hand dug which is remarkable in itself. The garden is divided into "rooms". Theres a beautiful rose garden, a herbaceous border using Nz natives, a Kauri forest, a beach forest, rhododendron garden, perennial garden etc. Each garden contains interesting art work or sculptures (many of which unbelievably were hand sculptured by one of the gardeners!) It was difficult to believe that this was just an empty farm field back in 1992.
This was well worth the $NZ 15 pp fee and you could easily spend 1.5 to 2 hrs here. Great place to take the kids but as there are a lot of water features they would need to watched at all times. Open Wed and Sat only according to tha sign at the entrance. Would recommend.

An amazing garden, a real gem for any garden lover. We went in winter time and thoroughly enjoyed it. The unusual native plant borders alone are worth a visit. Highly recommended!

This place is awesome, the old guy called Dave is so knowledgeable on everything and also keeps the garden in immaculate condition despite his age!! The overall standard of the garden is impeccable, they have an incredibly diverse range of plants to look at!! But be careful when going through what is known as the beach forest as there was this stray dog in there which jumped all over me and scared the absolute living daylights out of me, other than this it was a brilliant experience and I;ll certainly be back. All the staff are super friendly and approachable!! I highly suggest bringing a picnic lunch with you when you go!!

Not really known for their flowers or colour, Broadfields highlights the textures and foliage colours in a dramatic and sometimes formal layout that makes it stand apart from most "native" gardens I have seen.

We went a few years annually to their garden open days and found it very convivial but as the entrance fee went up we found we were paying more and more for the same thing. I enjoy(ed) the place but found it repetative and pricey but if you've not been before, give it a go.

I don't know another garden quite like this one. It is the singular vision of one man (and his dog) and incorporates the most exacting classical design with New Zealand indigenous plants. Think a classic allee of Kowhai and neatly trimmed pittosporum hedges. It's like a grand 17th century Le Notre jardin in France! It's immaculately tended on a large flat site, which probably used to be a sheep paddock or something. I don't know - but maybe that's why eveyrthing is so lush. There's even a manmade butte with a windy circular path you can follow up the conical mound.
If you're a lover of gardens, then it would be very much worth your while to visit. Ring first though because I'm not sure if it's open for visitors all the time. You may have to hire a car. It's not very far out of Christchurch but I'm not sure that a bus trundles past. The bus exchange will be able to enlighten you

This garden has an emphasis on New Zealand native and plant varieties. It has been cleverly designed into 18 sections in about 3.5 hectares. It deserves a least a couple of hours discovering some wonderful beauty.
