This small but extensive 2 story museum is contained within historic Lyndon House that was relocated stone by stone to the barracks circa 60 years ago and is gloriously restored! Externally, the 19th century parade games, with its 20th century tanks, are a spectacular juxtaposition for the growing city skyline! Internally the museum has a thousand stories of life in the Lancers! If you love the city of Parramatta, New South Wales history or those brave souls that defend our country do treat yourself to a tour of this amazing, historic site!

My wife and I visited Lancer Barracks Museum earlier this week and have no hesitation in recommending this heritage location to anybody interested in military history or Australian Colonial History. We were given a very informative and entertaining guided tour of the museum and surrounding grounds by a volunteer guide which took over two hours.
There are some very important and rare military items on display and all the exhibits are displayed in a very professional manner. The colonial buildings in the grounds go back as far as 1820 and are in excellent condition. There also a number of rare and restored military vehicles adjacent to the main museum. Strongly recommended.

I went on a tour today of lancer barracks definitely a hidden Sydney secret I had a great tour guide very knowledgeable and some interesting stories a must visit in parramatta if you’ve never been or are wanting venture as a tourist out west from the city centre

By virtue of the fact I was in Parramatta outside of normal visits (Sundays) I opted for an individual visit. It costs a lot more but all admission fees are for a very good cause.
The Museum is a thorough history of the the NSW Lancers, the most highly decorated Australian unit. It covers all periods of the Lancers history and includes many interesting exhibits such as weapons, vehicles, uniforms etc.
I would commend this Museum to all who are interested in military history.

Situated in well maintained beautiful historical buildings close to Parramatta Railway Station, the NSW Lancers site with its historical buildings, parade ground and memorial museum is a well organised and maintained history of this local regiment from the Boer war to the present day. The volunteer guide was well informed and interesting, giving interesting historical context and facts and allowing time for us to explore the four different rooms of exhibits. Open every Sunday and by appointment - check their website for details. The $8 per person entry fee was very reasonable.
