We have passed by this site on numerous occasions when travelling the Old Coast Road and simply were unaware of its existence. On a earlier visit to Mandurah this year we noticed the sign indicating the kiln site. Not sure when the signage was erected but probably May 2019 on completion of the car park, picnic tables, walking trail, fencing and interpretive signage.
The structure dates to 1922, built to process lime marl from Lake Clifton at the site. Operations only lasted two days when it was discovered that the deeper mined lime marl was unsuitable for processing and cement manufacture. The building and other supporting structures still exist, although the 13m roasting cylinder is long removed. An adjacent sign quotes an excerpt from the memoirs of Francis Raymond Wray who worked on the project. It mentions a sum of 9/10,000 pounds in costs, a princely sum in those days.
If visiting, be sure to bring some insect repellant, the mosquitos were very welcoming.
