The most ethical sanctuary I have been too where elephants are encouraged to learn natural behaviours in there natural environment after being rescued, they have lots of land to roam about in. It was a great experience to see them in the wild. I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. The tour guide was funny. We had a great day.

We were really keen to book the most ethical elephant encounter possible, and this turned out to be that. There is no riding or elephant 'care', but guests are invited to observe the elephants in the 20 acre site. There are four and we found them easily within a short walk. Each is looked after by a keeper, but is allowed to roam around and forage as naturally as possible. The animals have generally been soured from other places where they have been used more for entertainment or for logging and, whilst there are still elephants that are kept in this way, it seemed much better that these were living in a more natural way. Later the animals came down to feed, and visitors were able to view this without touching them. It is likely there are times the elephants have to be fenced or tethered as the large enclosure is only bounded by a small fence and each only has one keeper, but the company obviously aim to allow much more freedom and less unnecessary interaction. Therefore we enjoyed the ChangChill approach to the elephant experience.

My visit to Changchill was amazing. If you are in Thailand and want to learn more about elephants, Changchill is the best and actually only choice to make. There is nog backriding or touching, and that is the best part: Elephant can you be elephants. Our guide Thanya was amazing as well. She learned me a lot, is really kind and can answer every question.
It is important to take care of these beautiful animals by going to a place where the they are not being exploited.

After doing research into the most ethical ways to see elephants in Thailand in the wild (or as much on the wild as possible) we found ChangChill and were not disappointed.
We really enjoyed the small trek to catch the animals in the wild and enjoyed seeing them up close during feeding time. Our guide Mine was really knowledgeable and kept the group safe.
It's the only way we would recommend to see elephants and definitely worth 1900 Baht, especially as transport to and from and a lunch was included.

ChangChill is pure magic! Hiking the hills to find elephants Mae Korn, Mae Too, Mae Mayura and Mae Gohgae was absolutely thrilling. These amazing girls are living their best lives at ChangChill. This is a true sanctuary, there’s no riding, washing, feeding - they just let elephants be elephants. We watched while they roamed, snacked and roamed again. Our guide was incredibly knowledgeable about elephants and made sure we didn’t get too close. To see these amazing beings right there in front of you, relaxed and happy was just magnificent. We helped prepare snacks for the elephants and had a fantastic lunch overlooking the hills, absolute bliss.

We had a great day at Chiang Chill! If you want to experience elephants during your vacation this is the place to go because it is the only morally acceptable sanctuary. The people who work there are really considered about the animals. Protecting them and offering them a good life after what they experienced in the past is there most important goal. Visitors are not allowed to touch them and have to keep a certain distance. There are four elephants in total. The guide was funny and provided good information about the animals. Vegetarian food was no problem. They had plenty of fresh options to choose from.
We were picked up from our hotel on time. Transport went smooth and after about 1 1/2 hours we arrived at the sanctuary. In the beginning we did a bit of trecking to see the elephants out in the nature. If you are lucky the elephants are close by and you dont have to walk far. Most of the time we were standing next to the animals and had the opportunity to observe the animals and take some pictures from the distance. After about an hour we went back to the center of the sanctuary and chopped some sugar cane for the elephants snacktime. We were a bit disappointed that this part was kept very short. We would have enjoyed doing this for a bit longer. It seemed like they only wanted you to take a quick picture and move on to lunch. The break time for lunch was too long. Everyone kept waiting for the next part of the program. Finally we filled up the snackbar withe the sugar cane for the elephants. After some more waiting we were able to watch the elephants eat behind a little barrier. This part was quite joyful. Unfortunatelly we were suddenly rushed to the car so there was no more time to take a picture with the elephants. It seemed like they wanted us to leave really quickly. Never the less it was great experience to see the elephants and we are sure that they are treated well in Chiang Chill. We hope this kind of concept will spread.

An amazing and interactive experience. The team at Chang Chill were kind and knowledgeable. Our guide answered all of my small groups questions and more! We were able to see all 4 elephants out in the wild and then loved getting to chop the sugar cane to feed them as a snack. Originally our group was a little disappointed to hear we would not be able to touch the elephants but the guides explained thoroughly the negative effects that has on the animals. Thailand needs more places like Chang Chill!

I loved seeing the elephants up close and going about their business. It was very peaceful and delightful to watch them eat and walk. They’re so graceful and have the longest, prettiest eye lashes.
My biggest issue with location was the hilly, rugged terrain and the inclines made my asthma flare up really badly. I was not able to trek up any further into the jungle to see them walking around free, but I got to help prep their lunch of sugar cane pieces & observe them when they came down to basecamp to eat. The vegetarian lunch that was served was delicious! Again, just be mindful if you have asthma as it’s definitely an intense hiking experience.

We had the best day today at Chang Chill! It was so amazing to admire the elephants just doing what they would naturally do, without much interference from humans. You do not get to touch or bathe them since this place really looks out for what is best for the elephants. At the end you get to see them eating from real up close. Our instructor made the whole experience really fun and taught us a lot about elephants! I would definitely go again.
