Ganz schön und sehenswert ist diese alte Schmiede. Schön renoviert und bewohnt ist dieses Gebäude ein toller Anblick. Unbedingt anzusehen ist diese sichtbare Geschichte des Schmiedehandwerks in einer Reichsstadt

This is an uncommon, special half-timbered house. Adjacent to the Old City Gate, it somehow welcomes the visitor in a typical Rothenburg style.

The Gerlachschmiede is a special gem and it is one of the most beautiful half-timbered buildings in Rothenburg ob der Tauber. Located a bit off touristic paths and it took a bit time for us to find it. In the funnel-shaped corner house with the curved roof and the weather vane at the top, one can find confirmation of every cliché that one knows from classic and modern fairy tales. It could serve as a backdrop in films by Walt Disney or Tim Burton and, despite all the stylistic differences, would fit perfectly into the individual scenery.
The smithy was actually still in operation until 1967 and the resident blacksmith shod horses there. Since then it has been in private hands and can only be admired from the outside. The building as it stands near the Röder Gate is not as old as it looks. During the final stages of World War II, the building was completely destroyed in an air raid in 1945. Until 1951, it was rebuilt based on the historical model with great attention to detail. The old coat of arms between the lattice windows, the loving planting of the window boxes and the rose bushes in the small bed in front of the building reinforce the impression that the building could have sprung from a Grimm fairy tale.

wenn man die Stadt anschaut. Ein sehr schönes Gebäude, das aus fast allen Richtungen Eindruck zu schinden versteht.

Très jolie petite maison qui vaut le détour surtout qu'elle est visible de la muraille et qu'elle se trouve près d'une des entrées de la ville. Un petit détour est nécessaire!

A casa do ferreiro é uma das mais emblemáticas da cidade murada em enxaimel foi reconstruída após a Segunda Guerra seguindo os detalhes originais entre eles o telhado em formato em funil. É uma propriedade particular assim pode-se somente apreciar sua parte externa visto que a ferraria encerrou sua atividades em 1967. Digna de estar presente em um set de filmagens.

La Gerlachschmiede è l’antica bottega del fabbro, da visitare per la sua particolarissima forma. E' posta molto vicino alle mura, dalla quale si può osservare.

My favorite building in Rothenburg. Best viewed from the wall. Not as popular as a few others but very charming.

When I first walked the town wall in 1973 (!) I noticed this building and promptly took a picture. Only later did I see it on countless postcards and realize that it was a famous building. Every other time I have walked the wall, I couldn't resist taking another picture. I have never seen it from the ground!
