Due to the male wild elephants coming in to breed with the domesticated females there is no longer an electric fence around the sanctuary. At least the guide did warn us beforehand.
Shame that now the elephant’s are chained up and looked as if some has sore ankles from the chains and their youngsters too with not that long a chain to be close to their mothers. even though the guides explain they do get free time to go in the forest and taught to forage for their own food.
What was even worse was that they have trained the some young bull elephants to put flower garlands around peoples neck and bow to these people for food. Apparently the hindu's like it because on of their gods has an elephants head.

Elephants chained up are very hard to watch. We went to the elephant breeding area after our forest tour walk, forest is amazing and you can see a lot of animals.

Unethical elephant treatment. We were completely unaware that our 'National Park' tour would include a visit here: it was a shoking and incredibly upsetting experience. When we realised that the elephants are kept in chains, in tiny enclosures, beaten with sticks to "train" them, we immediately informed our guide that we did not support this and we wanted to be away from this as soon as we could. The elephants are in chains for up to and over 19 hours a day, then they're 'off' chains they are ridden into the forest. If you are thinking of booking a trip to Chitwan National Park, do intense research and question your tour guide/company thoroughly to ensure it does not include this. Don't support this extremely poor treatment of elephants.

I had a wonderful experience meeting the cute baby elephants and watching them cuddle with their mums.. however lot more can be done to fund the centre with feeding time and some interactions with them.

I visited here before researching and was appalled at the conditions of the poor elephants. All adult elephants are chained to a post in the ground by either one or both feet so they have minimal movement. All of the elephants look uncomfortable trying to find a position to rest whilst chained and are emotionally distressed which is seen by repetitive swaying and movements. They have no access to water!!! I was under the assumption the elephants were being bred to be released into the wild however this is not the case. They are bred to be trained for working purposes. They are poorly mistreated. The workers inflict pain and fear into the elephants which we saw first hand the fear when they threatened the baby elephants with a stick and they squeal and run with fear. Please do not visit this place. There are other organisations in Chitwan that support the welfare and treatment of elephants to go visit and learn about these beautiful animals.

Sad experience!! It is more an elephants jail with sad treatment. Chained, badly maintained elephant nails is a bad way of keeping these lovely and intelligent animals. I wish I could help them to be free and have a proper, appreciative and natural life. The owners should feel ashamed. Sad!

Came here not knowing what to expect. All of the mother elephants were tightly chained and were bobbing their heads in stress. Even some of the young elephants were chained and could not reach their mothers. Nothing else to see at all except these chained up animals. Horrible to see, do not visit.

This Elephant breeding center is nothing than a terrible prison and a torture chamber for these wonderful animals.
It breaks your heart to see how elephant mothers are chained, and also their calves, so that they can hardly reach their mother to drink.
Elephant calves are chained while they are desperatly trying to have a little more freedom of movement.
The front legs of some of the elephants are so strongly tied together, that they can only move their hind legs.
Where it is possible, they are swaying in emotional stress.
How can anyone claim to love animals and at the same time torturing these wonderful, intelligent and proud creatures?
No one, no matter if European, American, Asian wants to see tortured elephants, and I can't understand any of the positive reviews at all.
It is a shame for Nepal and I call on the government and animal welfare organizations to act.
No photos here, because I would do anything to forget this experience.

I’m so angry with myself for not researching enough before this trip. This “breeding centre” is a slave camp for tortured elephants. Females are tightly chained for most (if not all) of the day and forced to be impregnated by local wild elephants that come through at night. Their babies are chained to nearby logs until their torture and isolation begins at age 2/3. These elephants are not used to support or save the local wild population. They are born into torturous conditions to be used for work. I had read that metal hooks were banned as tools to beat the elephants, however they just tie a metal hook to the end of a bamboo stick to get around it. Elephants were swaying in emotional stress. The information centre writes “It is difficult for elephants to be born into captivity.” What a surprise. It would be a kindness for these amazing, intelligent animals to never be born. No photos because I would do anything to forget this experience.

A long way on poor roads. Did not notice any restaurants nearby, you would find these in Chitwan town.

Last year one of the elephant birth produced 2 babies at a time. They are growing up OK. This was the first time ever happened in all the breeding centers in the world.
