I have been visiting Ayyappa temple for last 38 years occasionally. I'm devotee of Ayyappa all my life. We arrange pooja every year at my house in USA. This year I went with my wife. Due to her health, we used dolly. I just want to comment of dolly people how they try to cheat. We agree to pay 11000 for 2-person RT. After return they changed the story and said each was 11000. Luckily there was a cop when they dropped us off much before designated place. He said don't pay more than 300/dolly person. comes to 2400 per dolly for 4800. We agreed to pay more than double the regular amount. At the end they demanded 11000/Dolly.
I just want to make aware of the people using dolly to be careful and make some kind of writing on piece of paper about the charges. I very much like the security and police watch all the way from Nilakkal to Sannidhanam. If you don't mind the hygiene level in the places, you like the visit of Lord Ayyappa.

Day 1 - 18 Nov 2021

Blessed Day - Woke up early, performed daily rituals and left to Ayyappa Temple in Yediyur for Irumudi. Reached temple by around 6:30 AM, everything was already arranged for Irumudi by the Purohits.
It took around 1 1/2 hour for completing the Irumudi Rituals, blessed to have all our close near and dear people to have joined us and blessed the occasion.
We were 4 of us travelling in Scorpio S4 wherein 3 were carrying Irumudi. Ensured to have vehicle properly checked and wheel alignment done before the journey. Even though it look silly its important, even with all precautions I had my wheel caps become loose because of improper tag binding. Better to carry long tags for any journey.
We also has couple of friends and my mother in law giving us extra ghee coconut to carry to Sabarimalai. Completed the rituals at temple and started pilgrimage at 8:15 AM.
We took the Hosur Road and plan was to reach Guruvayurappan Temple before dusk. Through out the journey we drove amidst heavy rains - it was continuously downpouring. We had our breakfast at around 11:00 at Sree Saravana Bhavan - Shoolagiri - Wonderful place and food was delicious. Didn’t stop for a long time as it was raining and we continued on to stop only at Sree Saravana Bhavan - Coimbatore for Lunch. I think this is one of the bad places and bad decision to stop for food. We didn’t like the food a bit. If you are in Tamil Nadu and want to eat lunch stop before 2:00 else expect no rice items or meals.
We again carried on in the rain and could reach Guruvayurappan Temple at around evening time. We were early than planned time even though it was raining as roads were very very good. We had booked hotel Rajavalsam in Guruvayur [Decent Stay] ~ 800 per room. As we were early went to temple in the evening only and had general Darshan - There is a special queue for Ayyappa Devotees in the temple, so we had a quicker darshan of Lord Guruvayurappan. Guruvayurappan was standing beautifully with Sandal Decorations. The idol isn't too big, so we need to concentrate and look clearly to get a good picture of Guruvayurappan. Post Darshan we went to Krishna Inn hotel for Dinner. Very ambient and expensive place, but we get a very decent food. In fact if you can afford to spend 3.5K per room, this is a better place to stay the night. Had good food and hit the bed.

Day 2 - 19 Nov 2021

Another Blessed Day - Rain has reduced a bit and was just drizzling, we work up at around 3:00 in the morning as we had Shree Kovil Ghee Lamp Darshan [1000 per head] Darshan at Guruvayurappan Temple. This is a good Darshana ticket as we don’t need to wait in the queue and would be directly sent for Lord Guruvayurappan Darshan. He was still standing beautifully and elegantly. Had a great darshan here as well and took prasadam. Better to not take too much prasadam if we are planning to stay for more than 2 days as it may get spoiled. But enjoy the prasadam there itself. Went back to the room, checked out and then left to Chottanikere Bhagavathi Temple as planned. We stopped at Hotel Aryaas Chernallur, Cochin - Again a wonderful place to have breakfast. Must Try. Reached Chottanikere Bhagavathi Temple where we had to wait for around 2 hours in the queue for Bhagavathi Darshan. This temple doesn’t allow special darshan so we need to wait and see the Devi through general queue only. Had a great Darshan of Chottanikere Bhagavathi - She stands very tall, beautiful with gold ornamental dressing - Great Darshan.
This temple is also residence of many Elephants - they are very very cute and of course strong :). This temple is also known for driving away the bad daemons attacking humans "DEVVA is what we call in Kannada / DAYYAM in Telugu".
We didn’t hit any other temple and as planned left to Erumeli where we had booked the stay. Note of caution - Never stay in the road that is on the way from Erumeli to Sabarimalai - its thick forest and no one to help around in case of issues. So if you are planning to stay plan to stay in Erumeli, Pamba River Bank near Sabarimalai or directly in Sabarimalai [ Need to book through Govt].
We hit the Erumeli road and went to stay at Pamba River Palace - Hotel was not at all good and was in middle of jungle, heavy rains had already started in the area and was very very scary driving Ghat sections. We had Darshan of Sabarimalai planned only next day, so we thought of
just driving up the hill until Neelikal to check the drive way - This was a very difficult difficult drive because of heavy rains, in fact vehicle was floating around as water had been flowing down the roads almost like flooding. With lot of difficulty we came back and realized Pamba River Palace isn't the right place to stay in this condition. We checked out and moved to Erumeli and stayed in hotel Paradise for the night. I am happy to have called my Kerala Friends to have guided me through out this journey, Dinu, Arun, Ajo and Kiran - They were our Kerala Guru's. Of course Sabby the owner of Pamba River Palace hotel was instrumental in getting help, he is our known associate from 5 years. Stayed the night in Erumeli. No Dinner as we don’t have good place to have food in Erumeli unless you have your own food.

Day 3 - 20 Nov 2021

We woke up very early in the morning 3:00 AM to understand that the Sabarimalai Temple is closed for the day because of Pamba River heavily flowing and dam bridge gate 1 was opened. So we slept again :) as we didn’t have any other option, we also didn’t know when they had plans of reopening the temple. Rain was continuously pouring during morning. I woke up around 9:00 AM to realize Sun had come up and was very sunny morning. We also got information from the known friends that the river flow has subsided and temple was now again opened for Darshan. This was really a great news for us, so we started to get ready to go to the temple. We left to Neelikal in our car and reached there in an hour. From Neelikal we need to take the Govt Bus to reach Sabarimalai as we will not have parking at Sabarimalai / Pamba. Its ~30 KM bus drive from Neelikal to Pamaba River. Pamba river was closed for taking bath and they had arranged showers everywhere for taking bath. Did pooja for Irumudi at pamba river bank and started the Pilgrimage to Sabarimalai. First we need to go to Temples downhill take darshan and then show the online tickets and show the vaccination certificates to the police and start your journey. Initially I asked my mother if she can climb the hill which is around 4 km, she was very confident of climbing the hills. There are around 21 hair curve bends followed by straight roads to the Sannidanam. Climbing the hair curve bends is the toughest part of the journey. After around 1 hair pin bend my mom could no longer climb even though I had taken here Irumudi, she started feeling very tired and shortness of breath. We arranged for Doli service and they charged around 7.5 K for carrying her up and down. Note of caution - Always plan your Doli journey at the start so it will be cheaper ~4K up and down. We reached the Sannidanam only to realize that there were around 10K + people waiting for Darshan. It would have easily taken 4+ hours for Darshan. The Doli person arranged Darshan for us through his known associates and we completed Darshan in an hour. Was blessed to have climbed the 18 steps and have the great Darshan of Lord Ayyappa. We had a great great Darshan. Post this one of my friend Jayanth paid 10K for Annadanam and we spoke to the main head of Travancore Devasworm Board Mr Sunil Kumar. He arranged another Darshan for us and we could stand for ~ a minute and see the Lord Ayyappa - Had the greatest Darshan - Had prasadam there in the temple, we didn’t pick up the prasadam there as we had to carry them downhill, so we got them at Neelikal - Bus stand where we get the same prasadam. Walking down was also an good experience and tiring one. Once we reached Neelikal took the car and headed directly to Palani. We left Neelakal at 8:30 PM and reached Palani at 2:00 AM. This day no lunch nor dinner had one bun each which we had carried along with some snacks on our way to Palani.

Day 4 - 21 Nov 2021

As we had reached the previous night at around 2:00 AM, we slept until 8:00 AM - we shouldn’t have done that so we could have reached the temple early and started back to BLR early. Any way we woke up late and went to the temple, they have a rope train to carry pilgrims from foot of the hill to the top. This took around 3 hours as train was very slow and had stopped for some time. If you don’t have old people with you better to walk the hills it not very difficult. There were lot of pilgrims in the temple as it was weekend, we managed to get some special Darshan from known associates and had a great Darshan of Lord Subramanya / Murugan. He is very very cute and lovely. After Darshan we took prasadam's there and walked down the hill including my mother - it wasn’t tiring climbing down. We had great food at Hotel Subham. This hotel food is very good I would also recommend this hotel for stay. Post lunch at 2:00 PM we hit the road back to Bangalore. Everyone were already tired by this time. Please ensure to reach Salem and hit the highway to reach Bangalore, one small wrong turn takes you to a completely different road towards Mysore, Mettupalyam road. This is what happened to us and we had to drive back ~50 KM to come to the main road. Post this we were on a proper highway, had dinner at A2B and reached Bangalore by 12:00.

This temple is about 2 minute drive from Main Central Road at Pandalam. This is related to the Sabarimala sri ayyappa temple. The thiruvabharanam of lord ayyappa is kept here and taken from this during festival time. There is a palace and hanging bridge nearby.
