we actually went in february 2022, sorry it took so long to post a review. we did not take a train to kigoma from dar because it was taking too long, so we flew, and had a lovely guy called singo 255 755 72 1660 (if i remember correctly) pick us up to drive us to a town called kibirizi (cost of that 20,000 shilling) where a boat belonging to the park (arranged with the help of pellagy marandu 255686507967 or 255754507969) was waiting for us to take us to the park. 200 000 shilling plus $20 per person plus pay for the petrol. i think it takes about 2 hours to reach the park (kaselika if i am not mistaken), you are on the lake tanganika, it's beautiful. in the park, they rent tents which are beautiful, comfortable, with showers and toilets, beds and bed sheets, facing the lake (where you can swim) at a reasonable price ($25 per night if i am not mistaken). the tents are near where jane goodall's house stands. there is a restaurant cooking breakfast lunch dinners, and the rangers even bring you beer in your tent. the whole crew is really super nice. use your napkins to wipe glasses and utensils, it can t hurt. they take tourists twice a day to see the chimpanzees. these are more visible on mornings than in afternoons. you will see the chimpanzees, BUT in trees ! a little far..... or walking on the ground, fast, near you, yes, but when they don t move, they hang out in trees. so i had seen orang utans in borneo, better, and was a bit disappointed in my chimpanzees sighting in gombe. binoculars probably help. the walk is very doable, chimpanzees are moving around so the rangers will take you were they are, you might have to walk up, but nothing someone in a normal shape can t do and you will enjoy beautiful views.! the visitor center numbers are 0689 062303 and 028 280 4009. keep in mind you are in an isolated place, a natural park in tanzania, signals (mobile and internet) are spotty :-) some people love kigoma, i did not love it, we stayed in the fancy lodge on top with african animals walking around, no alcohol served up there.

We just finished an incredibly wonderful 3 days Gombe Trekking with Tanzania Horizon Safaris, The safari was amazing, everything was perfectly organized, the accommodations were beautiful and our guide Hussain was the best we could have. He answered all the questions we had and gave us a lot of info regarding animals, nature, and so many things! We saw a lot of chimpanzee,Besides chimpanzees, we saw other primates including a troop of ‘beach-combing’ olive baboons, and red-tailed and vervet monkeys.
This was an incredible and unforgettable holiday, we are back in Europe full of memories and beautiful pictures!
Everything was very well organised. Thanks for this great trip! We highly recommend Tanzania Horizon Safaris to anyone!!

Obviously seeing the chimps was an absolute once in a lifetime highlight and I have only the highest of praises for the wonderful guides we had that went out of their way to ensure that we saw chimps on both treks and were very knowledgeable

We had the most spectacular adventure with Tanzania Horizon Safaris. It was an awesome experience. Accommodation as well as the expert guide made my trip unforgettable.We saw a lot of chimps way closer, unexpectable! Gombe isn't the easiest of Tanzania's parks to get to, but you definitely won't regret making the effort to get to this somewhat remote, but very beautiful, part of the world.Highly recommended

We were in gombe last week to see the chimps. Because there was no recent information on the internet beforehand we prepared ourselves for an expensive private boatride from kigoma. It actually turned out very easy and affordable. In kigoma is an gombe park information centre, government run. Here you can book a boatride and if you want a place to stay for the night. See picture for very clear pricelist. We shared 80 dollars for fuel with the 4 of us, paid 23 dollars each to the captain, shared 23 dollar with the four of us for a guide for half a day and 118 dollar each for the entrance fee. Allthough i can imagine its beautiful to stay for the night, i didnt feel rushed at all during this daytrip.

We visited Gombe Stream National park for 3 Days and it was a great experience! We saw a family group of Chimps and Our guide, Hussain, was excellent and can highly recommend him and the lodge. It is certainly not budget, but worth it (for us) to see the chimpanzees. We visited the chimpanzees 3 times and saw a large group of them every time, all in all we had the most incredible time.We highly recommend Tanzania Horizon Safaris if you want a guaranteed unforgettable and professional arranged Tanzania safari experience.

We arrived in Gombe national park, using a boat on Tanganyika lake from Kigoma.
We stayed 2 days in Gombe National Park in January 2019. It is a famous chimps reserve.
At arrival, we visited have Jane Goodall’s old chimp feeding station and we saw Kakombe beautiful waterfall.
Unfortunately, we were very unlucky regarding chimps tracking. We spent 2 days, walking in the forest, using muddy and muddy paths on steepy hills and valleys. We heard the chimps and olive baboons, but we failed to see the chimps!!!
The chimp tracking is less organized than in Kibale forest (in Uganda), decreasing your chance to see the chimps…

Getting to Gombe is complicated but worth it. After flight to remote airport, you spend time in a car and then 2+ hours on a small boat getting to the park by water. The boat is a simple, local watercraft. We happened to arrive on a wavy day which meant we were on the water about 30-45 minutes extra and got soaked in the process. We received a warm welcome from a park ranger/tour host upon arrival at the park and shown to our tent, which was nicer than expected given how remote we were, but not the full "glamping" level that some may have come to expect on safaris. Meals were provided in a simple dining hall. The highlight were the chimp treks. It's everything we could have wanted. Our guide paced the trek expertly and gave us so much interesting information along the way. We also learned a ton about Jane Goodall's work and the ongoing research taking place in the park. Certainly one must be in good health to participate in the treks. Be ready to "rough it" but be ready for a wonderful once in a lifetime experience.

We trekked Gombe NP a few weeks ago, great experience! The chimps were in an isolated area so the up and down trek to get to them was a bit tough for me. If you aren’t in good shape, consider MaHale for a Chimp Trek. Gombe is a very beautiful Park!

My wife and I are looking at going to Gombe in July. We're fairly budget, so not looking for anything fancy, but can't seem to find any info on booking lodging direct? Can someone point me in the direction of any lodging that I can book on my own?

Hello I was wondering what is the best way to travel from Kigoma to Gombe? I had someone offer a boat for $150, but that seems pricey. Any suggestions are appreciated

I will probably go with a friend for a Chimpanzees tour around Sunday, 23th of June, starting from Kigoma. I read the the price for a 12 people-boat should be around 350 USD. Is anyone going on that day by boat to the Gombe stream national park? Does anyone know, how I can book a guide for the park in advance?

Boat booking i did it at Kibirizi, and its not a long process of course i will appreciate to help for that
Again i personally did a day trip to Gombe and still am in Kigoma all this year leaving early December, i will appreciate too if i can organise for you with the people who made may day the day i have been there, especially if you would prefer supporting the locals

Looking to travel to Tanzania in mid-June 2018 and would ideally like to do a 4 day safari on northern circuit, then 5 days in Gombe Stream area. How would you recommended getting between to two destinations? What are the most reasonable accommodations in Gombe Stream area? We are former Peace Corps volunteers and are okay with 'roughing it' for a few nights. Thanks for any information!

Dear Julie. I am sorry, but i know hardly anything about 'roughing it'. We took a boat from Kigoma. Our driver thought it was safer to take a boat than risk the mud. I Did not stay the night in Gombe. I returned the same day by boat to Kigoma. I stayed at the Hill Top Hotel. That is probably the best hotel in Kigoma.
I have seen tents when we arrived at the lake side gate. There is a big stone building as well with accommodation. It might be only for scientists but you could try contract Gombe park.
