We cannot comment on the trip, as we did not end up going. When we arrived at the harbour it was evident that the weather was awful. Really heavy rain. We appreciated that the crew gave us an honest opinion that it was not favourable to go out on the boat, rather than taking our money anyway. We were given a full refund

Excellent sustainable eco tourism

Great company to book with to see whales, dolphins and other marine life. We saw a small pod of dolphins swimming by the side of the boat. We also saw a whale from a distance. Bear in mind that sightings are never guaranteed, and this company is not out there aggressively hunting them down. They have a very sustainable, eco friendly approach. Despite seeing the whale from a distance we were still offered to attend another trip. We have yet to decide if we have time to do it again. Nevertheless we thoroughly enjoyed our experience.

The breakfast and snacks are very good and staff are extremely professional and friendly.

Bear in mind that the sea can be quite rough, which is obviously outside the control of the company.

Fantastic dolphin sea viewing experience within the Sri Lankan seas! 🇱🇰🐬

Thank you for an amazing and memorable experience provided by the team at Raja & the Whales. The team provide an excellent level of service and safety during the trip, ensuring that each person is looked after during the boat trip. It was a real bonus to see so many dolphins in the Sri Lankan seas - something I will never forget for sure! Highly recommend you reach out to this friendly organisation who are contributing to the preservation of these rare creatures of the Sri Lankan seas. I look forward to my next boat trip with Raja & the Whales the next time I visit Sri Lanka 😎👍🏾🐬⛴️ 🇱🇰

What a shame about Raja

I didn't know white how to review this as the crew on the boat were lovely, hard working and knowledgeable and the food etc was really appreciated. Raja, the captain, however was a total idiot; blaring music, smoking, spitting, being extremely attention seeking at the front of the boat which really ruined the experience for us. When we did see a whale in the distance we couldn't go towards it as he was doing lengths next to the boat for his daily exercise?! It was honestly bizarre. Such a shame, he really did love the sound of his own voice and we felt it could have been much more educational.

Excellent crew members. All very supportive and working tirelessly to look for a whale. Very knowledgeable. The only thing we felt unusual and out of place was with Raja (captain?) and some of his antics. Although he meant well with his music, hysterical swaying, smoke and dancing, it did interfere with the very natural experience of being at sea. Please take this as a positive suggestion. Thank you again to the other members of the crew including the very affable lady crew member.

Le bateau est en bon état, confortable et pas surchargés de clients.
L’équipage était sympathique en revanche le capitaine était très particulier, peu sympathique avec les clients, comme desinhibé, sous substance. Cela ne nous a pas mis à l’aise et bien qu’on puisse retourner une deuxième fois car nous n’avons pas vu de baleines( mais des beaux dauphins) nous n’irons pas.

Check who the skipper is before you sail

Unfortunately didn’t spot any whales which obviously can happen (and they offer you a repeat trip if you didn’t see any) did see a large group of spinner dolphins which was great.
The crew were all really lovely helpful and interesting with the exception of the skipper (who I believe is also the owner) who was more interested in flirting with the young single girls on the boat despite their obvious disinterest and getting stoned! We heard more about his personal life than he ever told us about whales. He treated his crew like his personal slaves and seemed to be always wanting to attract everyone’s attention by his ridiculous antics.
If he is skippering the boat I would chose a different company!

Een man die alles verpeste.

Laat me allereerst zeggen dat de bemanning en hoe zij omgaan met de walvissen een dikke vijf sterren verdiend. Ze werken erg hard en zijn erg gemoeid met het welzijn van de dieren. De bemanning zorgde voor lekker eten, snacks en drinken. De enige reden dat ik de gehele ervaring drie sterren geef is vanwege de kapitein/ eigenaar, of wie het ook was. Hij verdiende nog minder dan één ster! Hij begon te vertellen dat hij de kapitein was en Raja heette. Vervolgens ging hij in zijn eentje op de voorzijde van de boot, dansen en een joint roken. Hij begon steeds meer in zichzelf te praten en te lachen. Toen we eindelijk walvissen zagen, verstoorde hij steeds het moment door hard te praten of te lachen. Ook zette hij te pas en on te pas harde muziek op. Aan het einde was hij niet meer te houden. Hij had 99,9% harddrugs gebruikt en was het niet bij dat jointje gebleven. Hij duwde de medewerker weg van het stuur en ging zelf varen. Vervolgens zette hij de boot stil en gebeurde er niets. De toeristen moesten hem dwingen om verder te varen. Hij lachte, huilde en praatte in zichzelf. Dit zorgde voor een erg onveilige situatie. Sommige toeristen sloegen zelfs een kruisje. Uiteindelijk met veel pijn en moeite op het land gekomen. Ook erg sneu voor de medewerkers die niet tegen hun baas wilde ingaan. Deze man hoort niet op een boot! Hij dacht dat alles om hem draaide terwijl hij helemaal niets had uitgevoerd.

Wundervolle Tour!
Wir haben die Tour heute gemacht, haben dabei Wale und sogar 2 unterschiedliche Arten von Delfinen gesehen.
Die Crew ist extrem freundlich, hilfsbereit und kundenorientiert.
Insgesamt waren wir über 4 Stunden am Wasser.
Sind am „Heimweg“ extra noch zu Delfinen gefahren, die von Fischerbooten gesichtet wurden.
Es wird wirklich geschaut, dass man so viel wie möglich sehen kann.
Was wir auch toll fanden, dass die Crew auch auf die Tiere achtet. Es wird nicht blind auf die Tiere hingesteuert, sondern es wird darauf geachtet das sich die Tiere nicht gestört fühlen und nicht gefährdet werden.
Es gab an Board Frühstück - sehr gut! (Obstplatte, Eier und Brot, Kokosnuss, Ter/Kaffee, Wasser)
Außerdem bekam man vor der Fahrt eine Tablette gegen Seeübelkeit, die man nehmen konnte.

Amazing trip with environmental approach

Usually i am not writing any review but after this trip i felt to leave a review.
An amazing trip of 5 hours for a very good price. Saw pods of 300 dolphins and around 6 blue whales. The biggest reason i am writing this review is the way how they approach the blue whales. While other boats run directly to the blue whales when sighted, this organisation make sure to leave plenty of space between whale and boat and still ensure good whale sightings from the boat. This environmental approach is combined with whale education, fruits and breakfast on the boat.

A very nice organisation to go with to see the biggest animals on earth.
