Excellent! We were so well looked after from the moment we stepped on the boat. Lots of delicious food, comfortable seats/ cushions and we were kept informed of what we were seeing. Saw lots of spinner dolphins and wow, a huge sperm whale. I felt that the crew kept everyone informed as to what to expect and pointed out the shortcomings of one or two neighbouring boats, a first class experience! Thank you

Fantastic day, staff were knowledgeable and kept everyone informed. Great and copious amounts of food throughout. We saw lots of spinner dolphins and a sperm whale . Highly recommend

I cannot say enough great things about this tour. The team is amazing, and I had such a great time, from the food provided onboard to the education about the whales and Sri Lanka. I loved my time with Raja & the Whales.

An unmissable trip, one of the best things we did on our holiday. From our research this was the best company to do whale watching and they really were superb. Very professional and knowledgeable staff who really care about the diminishing plight of the whales. They share their sightings with various research facilities around the world.
We got tea/coffee when we first got on the boat, followed by fruit and later omelette and sausage and then cake before we departed. Our trip was 5.5 hours long and we saw several whales.

We had a nice tour with the team of Raja & the whales. The troupe was very attentive, totally friendly and helpful (especially among seasick guests). Breakfast on board was great.
Unfortunately we only saw one Bryde whale, but many dolphins.
The crew is considerate with the whales, which can not be said of the other boats we could observe.

The guys on the boat were really friendly. Their passion for and knowledge about Whales was amazing. They took care not to chase the whales so as not to frighten them away. They knew the best places to find the whales and dolphins. We saw one particular Bryde’s Whale with no dorsal fin loads of times, and up close too! We also saw large pods of Spinner Dolphins. Breakfast was included; we had a selection of fruit, spicy omelette, coffee with biscuits, cake and then a coconut to drink from. You could also help yourself to bottled water. If you don’t get to see any Whales then you can go the next day for free!! Highly recommended!

Was a fantastic day! The team were extremely hospitable, and made for a brilliant experience. We didn’t see a whale on our original trip (we did see 2 types of dolphins though!!), but came back the next day (for free!) and did. We an unforgettable experience.

I am very happy that I chose this company for this experience.
Even though I wanted to see them in their environment, in the ocean, I never wanted to feel that my action was disturbing the whale.
Raja & the Whales offered me this possibility: I saw whales (of 2 types), dolphins (a multitude) without feeling that I was disturbing them.
A wonderful experience. Highly recommended!

Excellent experience! We've seen blue whales and turtles and spinner dolphins. We had lots of snacks and even omelettes and bottled water at any time. In advance, the communication and organization was perfect. A transfer from Bentota was also organised for us. Great!

Hi,we are travelling with our 5 yr old daughter.Will this trip be too taxing for her considering the long hrs it takes?Requesting parents who have traveled with kids only to respond.

Absolutely not, there aren’t proper seats on the boat, no barriers for children not to fling into the ocean and it’s hugely uncomfortable for the duration of the trip.

52 USD per adult (34 USD for the trip + 18 USD governmental fees & taxes).
26 USD per kid from 5 to 11.99 years of age (17 USD for the trip + 9 USD govmt fees & taxes).
Kids below 5 years of age are free of charge.
Pick up from anywhere in Mirissa and insurance are included in the price as well as a fresh breakfast and water on the boat. We are not allowed to give any discounts (neither to individuals nor to groups) as the price for the tour is determined by the Whale Watching Community of Mirissa. Payment can be made in cash or with card (ATM card or credit card). We take Sri Lankan Rupees, Euro and US-Dollar (calculated with the exchange rate of the day of your trip).

The price for the trip is 6000 Sri Lankan Rupees per adult (all persons above 12 years of age) and 3000 Sri Lankan Rupees for kids from 5 until 12 years. Kids below 5 years of age are free of charge.

Is there an option to store our luggages in your office or carry them along with us on the boat tour? We are planning to check out of Hikkaduwa and come for the tour and then check in at a Mirissa hotel after the trip.

I never used this as we were close by but the people at raja and the whale are super helpful and I'm sure they would. They have some space there.
Best thing is to call them and they normally always answer after 2pm

Hi, we are planning a trip in Jan first week. Is that a good time to watch whales? We are 4 adults including 2 senior citizens, it is advisable to go for this trip?
Tried to contact them through email, but no response. How do they generally communicate?

I'm not sure about when is best to watch the whales, but apparently it is good all year round. The company seemed really knowledgeable and reliable with everybody paying the same price. The breakfast was good and all the crew genuinely seemed into the idea of helping /protecting the whales which made the trip really enjoyable! Communication throughout the booking was good too, maybe send a message through their Facebook page if you can, it seems fairly lively on there.

I found this online. In Mirissa, the best time for whale watching is from November to April next year; in Trincomalee, the best time is from May to September as whales continue their migrations around the island from the south coast. Out of these months December, January and April are the peak months of sightings.Oct 13, 2016
