I noticed that most of the cars driving the Cades Cove Loop were not stopping at any of the buildings. That was fine with me as we was trying to see as much as we could. If none of the cabins or churches look interesting, you should at least stop here. For one, there are bathrooms, which everyone will appreciate. The visitor center is in a cabin, which was cool. There are a few barns, a mill, a house, and some other set ups around the area. You can also get to the bank of Mill Creek, which is pretty.

Went with the family to Cades Cove. It’s absolutely gorgeous! Heads up! Make sure you make all little ones go to the bathroom before starting the drive for we stopped at the beginning where the ranger station is and all the bathrooms were closed for some unknown reason. It’s about 6 (slow moving miles until the visitors center!!!! )
Purchasing the $1 booklet is absolutely worth it for it has a short paragraph of all the stops.
Make sure to go to the visitors ctr and go to the creek behind and explore. It’s beautiful!
We hiked thru the back and in the river and enjoyed nature. The gift shop is really nice. It’s pricey like any other but worth the stop and purchase. I bought the coolest bear puzzle and jacket patch. By the visitors ctr you’ll find bathrooms but during the month of December parking is very difficult.
The 11 mile drive and stops are totally worth it. This is a must do for nature lovers. If you want to hike it I believe there are specific days no cars are allowed specifically for hikers and cyclists.

A nice stop for restroom and history time. The restrooms are ok and are a little over the halfway point around the loop. Several of the old settlement buildings are at this visitor center area.

We visited the Cades Cove Visitor Center on our recent trip to Tennessee. The visitor center is at the halfway point of the Cades Cove loop. The visitor center has a nice walking path and restrooms and the visitor center shop. The restrooms were clean enough. Like most national park restrooms they are somewhat rustic. The shop was very nice. It is a medium-sized shop for a national park. Most parks have a smaller shop and some of the really popular parks have a slightly larger shop. We especially liked the local products in the shop. They had jams and apple butter from the local Smoky Mountains area. They also had the normal tourist souvenirs like t-shirts and plush animal toys and the like. The visitor center is a convenient stop and worth a visit.

At first one wonders why the visitors center is halfway through the 11 mile loop. Then again, after going 20 miles per hour or less and making a number of stops along the way it’s a good place to stretch your legs, use the restroom, and admire the old mill and other structures. Of course there’s the gift shop for those who must have a souvenir or two. We also saw a deer while there. That’s an added bonus.

Cades Cove Visitor Center offers something unique for everyone. It transports you back in time and is a great place for unique photo opportunities and to create great family memories.

If doing Cades Cove loop this is a worthwhile stop. Nice store and restrooms. There are some old structures that are worth investigating. Only disappointment is there were no signs giving the history of the buildings. There was one which was intriguing but had no clue what it would have been used for. Perhaps this information is available elsewhere, but signs at the buildings would have been nice.

the visitor center is a cabin look, inside the visitor center, you can buy the map of the park and buy ranger book, yes, for this park, we need to "buy" those things while in most other national parks, those things are free, but as Smoky mountain didn't require admission fee, they may gain some income from selling these stuffs. In the same parking lot as the visitor center, you can also see John P cable Grist Mill and Becky Cable House. The Mill is quite good looking, you can have photo opportunity.

The Cades Cove Visitor Center is a great place to stop during your time in Cades Cove. Some items that you can purchase here can't be bought in other visitor centers in the park. There is also a mill you can check out.

No trip to Cades Cove would be complete without a stop at the visitor center. The park staff working there is second to none and they offer a great selection of Smoky Mountain mementos.

I know this is probably way too late! I don't get on here much. But, I don't remember there being any charge to drive through. Donations are eagerly accepted though!

Hi! My friend, Sherry and I are headed out from Hinesville, Georgia to visit cades cove. We are both 54 years old and was wondering what the shortest hike to a waterfall is? Also, what is there to do for these two old hens lol

Marie, there are no waterfalls in Cades Cove. It is the watershed area for Abrams Creek and it is a medium level difficulty hike to get back to Abrams Falls. It is the equivalent of 14 flights of stairs, each way. You have to crest the ridgeline, drop down to the falls, and the same effort to get back.
Be sure to stop at the one of the Visitors Centers before headed into the Park. (Sugarland's, just south of Gatlinburg as you enter the Park, or Oconaluftee, just north of Cherokee side. Both will supply you with lots of information and options).
Best time to do the auto tour of Cades Cove is in the morning or early evening, when the deer, bears, turkeys and other wildlife are active.
