While the (cramped) view from the Overlook was nice, a few trees were in the way, and lots of people were crowding in for a look. We were fortunate to catch a ranger hike past the overlook and further on to the Silver Forest Trail to a gorgeous, quiet location. The hike is flat, the wildflowers were blooming, and you could actually hear nature. We highly recommend taking those few extra steps for a better experience.

It was good that we stayed one more day because the first day we could not see through the fog at all. Good overlook to see the top of the mountain.

Great hike to a view of Emmons Glacier and Mount Rainer on clear days. Hike is moderate for most but avid hikes will find it easy.

Last day of the season, and the clouds were there. But any day out in nature is a good day. Plenty of good day hikes.

I had never been to the Northwest region of the United States. I was a first time hiker last August when I hiked to Emmons Vista. The hike was difficult in the higher elevation of Mt Rainier (I'm from Chicago, flatlander) but I made it. If I go back, I will make sure I'm in better shape before going. The views were breath taking. It changed my life just with the experience.

There is not a good view of Mt. Rainier from the Sunrise Visitor Center unless you take this short hike starting just off the parking lot. Easy walk will reward you with a great view of the glacier and mountain. The trail does go on for more views, but the first one is adequate if you just want to see the glacier.

If you don't want to hike the trails Emmons Vista Overlook is a very short walk from the Visitor Center. Well worth you time and they view are fantastic.

The View point is a short walk from the Sunrise Visit Centrex of Mount Rainier. But after walking such a short distance you have a glorious view of Emmons Glacier. You also get the view of Mountains and Lakes. Do not miss.

A visit to Sunrise at Mt. Rainier would not be complete without taking the short walk/hike to the Emmons overlook. It's a stunning view of the mountain and what is left of the Emmons Glacier. It has retreated an amazing amount over the past few decades. If you look down at the lake in the valley you should know that the glacier, only 40 years ago, extended down past that lake. The lake didn't even exist back then but now the forest is filling in the valley where the glacier once was. The rangers give guided walks down to the outlook and give great information about the area. Don't miss this.
