Great falls

We visited here on our hike to Fern Lake. You need to be aware that you have to hike about 2 miles to get to the falls. The first part of the hike to the pool is relatively easy but the from the pool to the Falls it gets steeper and more difficult. It isn’t terrible but there is a good incline so be aware. If you go on to Fern Lake the incline is even more and the trail is much more rocky. This is worth the hike if you can do it but it is work. If you have troubles or aren’t in shape, don’t go to the Lake, just stop at the Falls.

Nice Waterfall but Try to Arrive Early

Fern Falls is a 60 foot waterfall on Fern Creek downstream of Fern Lake. It's about 3 miles from Fern Lake trailhead. We visited on a shuttle hike from Bear Lake to Fern Lake. We didn't arrive until afternoon and the sun was shining right on it. But still a nice waterfall and spot for a break. Try to visit in the morning for best pictures.

Definitely worth it!

This is a great hike, not too hard, with a beautiful waterfall. Don't get me wrong, you will have some elevation gain, and some rocks to step over but it is very doable for anyone in decent shape. And it's definitely worth the trip. I suggest adding cub lake to your trip or if you are really feeling up to it, Fern Lake is a great add on.

Stunning, towering waterfall !

This beautiful waterfall is on the way to Fern Lake as well as Odessa lake and is such a magnificent piece of nature.
Luckily there’s always a fallen log right in front of it that you can sit on to take a picture or as you can see from my photo there’s a little path on the side of it that you can walk on to get a picture up close and personal next to the Falls.
Timberline Falls So far is my favorite waterfall but this one comes in a very close second.

Totally worth the views!

This is a good hike, going early in the morning would be my suggestion, it can get pretty hot by the afternoon as there isn't a ton of natural covering in many areas of the hike. The falls are beautiful! Totally worth the effort! Make sure you wear good shoes and dress in layers, Colorado weather changes rapidly! *The hike itself is free, but there is a fee to get into the park, park passes are available!

Awesome medium hike to waterfall that is better than Alberta Falls

This hike takes some time, but doesn't really get strenuous till the last mile or so. But the reward is a better looking waterfall that is less crowded than Alberta Falls. This waterfall will mist you to cool you off and there is a small rock near the edge of the falls that is perfect for sitting in peace. The trail to the falls also winds along the river, so the views are great all hike. And seeing a mother and baby moose didn't hurt either.

Plan parking strategies by going early.

If you hike this trail there are several choices for parking along the road leading to the trailhead.
If you park in the lot by the restrooms it is a.6 mile hike on the road to the trailhead.
There are a few nooks between the parking area by the restrooms and one by the trailhead itself. There is room for one way traffic on that drive so it is challenging to navigate. So go early if you want closer parking or allow extra hiking time and distance.
The trail itself is a trail filled with lots of exploration and we had the fortune of seeing a family of moose on our trek.
We made it to Big Thompson pool which was a zoo of activity with chipmunks and bird watching. The pool was more like a waterfall pool area but very scenic.
The round trip from the parking area by the restrooms to Big Thompson pool is about 5.5 miles and depending how many times you stop to admire the views of the Rocky mountain National Park it will take you about 2.5 to 3 hours.

Nice, Easy Hike in RMNP

A very beautiful, easier hike in RMNP. The falls are beautiful and the mist from the falls really cools you down. The trail can be really busy on weekends mid day. I've hiked this trail a few times.

The trail was amazing this fall

Hiking up this trail to see the falls is more about the journey than the destination. The falls are okay...small, but getting there was a delight. The trail along the Thompson River was spectacular wth the aspens and fall colors surrounding the trail. It is well used, but not as crowded as some other spots. There are places to sit by the river, there is a new alluvial fan to see as a result of the 9/13/2016 flooding. There is a great place to sit and see the falls when you get there. Hike for a destination, but enjoy the trail to get there!

Perfect moderate trail

We walked about 2 miles in from the Fern parking lot. Well marked moderate trail. Follows Big Thompson stream. Plenty of access points to the stream. Our favorite hike of the weekend.
