Wonderful artist. Lyris makes some fabulous pieces with beautiful colours and very original. Earrings wraps scarves hand painted . Beach bags cushion covers something for everyone. Could have taken the whole collection. Appart from being a fabulous artist such a lovely lady. If you are visting antigua take an hour to drop by you won't be disappointed.

Lyris was so friendly and accommodating. Prior to our trip from Canada to Antigua we corresponded via email and Lyris gave me many helpful tips on what to bring on our vacation. I purchased a beautiful leather leaf necklace, earrings and turtle painted canvas coasters. I only wish I had bought one of her beautifully painted bird feeders. Island Mantra is only a short taxi trip from the docked cruise ships in St. John's. We took a taxi from the Grand Pineapple Beach Resort and made it out first stop prior to seeing the stores in St. John's. If you are looking for excellent quality in a homemade hand painted souvenir be sure to contact Lyris to arrange a visit to her shop. You will be happy you did!

I love earrings and often pick up locally crafted earrings when traveling. This place has a good variety of them. I usually pick up 1 or 2 pairs when visiting family in Antigua. There are also necklaces, gifts, artwork, decor and a whole assortment of creative objects attracting you when you step in.
It is a great place to get that 1 of a kind item to wear or display.
The most difficult thing with Island Mantra is to not buy out the whole store, or to only choose 1 thing as everything is wonderful.
In addition the shop in located in a charming house and has lovely character and decor. The manner in which all items are displayed is clever and makes the shop fun to browse.
The majority of items are created by the shop owner and are 1 of a kind. You may also find a few items crafted by other artists in the shop.
It is a great place to get that 1 of a kind item to wear or display.

We read about Island Mantra online before visiting the island on a cruise, and planned to visit her studio. We love to find unique shops with a local flair, and Island Mantra did not disappoint. We made it our first stop of the day on our island tour, and we are glad we did. So many beautiful hand painted gifts to choose from. We picked out several of her painted fabric items-a full size sarong wrap, an apron and a tea towel. All very high quality, soft cotton with gorgeous hand painted designs, and vibrant colors. All are truly unique. We also got a beautiful little painted calabash birdhouse that I love. She also had many other items to choose from including jewelry and other unique gifts. I would highly recommend a visit to Island Mantra. My only regret is that I did not buy more items to give as gifts back home. It is hard to find items like these-unique, beautiful and local. Thank you Lyris!
Tip-insist that your taxi driver take you straight to island mantra from the cruise port, as it is close by, and easy to get to. If you wait to stop by on your return to the ship, you will likely run out of time due to traffic heading back into the city. You don't want to miss Lyris and her beautiful studio. We met another couple on the cruise that planned to go as well-unfortunately the taxi driver told them he would take them to Island Mantra on the way back to port, but they never made it since traffic was heavy and they ran out of time.

I had read about Lyris Tracey on the internet prior to our trip to Antigua last year so we were keeping an eye out for her when we "bumped" into her at Shirley Heights where she had a booth.
My sister and I both fell in love with her work, particularly her hand painted leather earrings.
She is a true artist and the earrings being leather, are so practical. I even bought a pair of leather earrings that had actual fish scales on them which shimmered silver!!! We also bought some gorgeous coral earrings and matching necklaces from her which are equally nice but tend to get caught on clothing a bit. I would highly recommend that you check out her work as you will be
hard pressed to find more original work.

I had read about Island Mantra online before we left on vacation and new right away I just HAD to visit this obviously special " gift shop". This was my husband and mine first time on Antigua and we didn't know our way around the island at all. Thanks to the internet I contacted Lyris, the artist and owner of Island Mantra, and she was so very gracious and helpful in directing us to her workshop. The descriptions online were all true: you can not leave Antigua without having been to Island Mantra! Lyris is so very talented and has the most beautiful artistic pieces there for you to purchase. They are all one of a kind! I bought earrings for all the girls in the family and a beautiful tablecloth that I just love to display in my home. Lyris uses the most amazing colors in everything she paints! Lyris is not just a wonderful artist, but also a delight to meet! If you're looking for a special shopping experience, you HAVE to visit Island Mantra during your stay. You will not regret it.

For stunning handcrafted items this is the place in Antigua. Lyris the artist /owner is friendly,creatively talented, and accommodating. So... You know normally you run around on your last days abroad running around checking tacky gift shops for people at home and still not finding anything all that great... Well.. if you are visiting Antigua for your holidays your luck is about to change!!!
On this beautiful island you have the beautiful Lyris and her beautiful work.. There is something for everyone there and on my last visit to the island I made the trip to island mantra on more than one occasion.. I found gifts for everyone at home, and myself!! The works she does ranges from clothes to jewellery to bird feeders to wall pieces. There is such variety, you will always find something to your liking and with every visit the stock changes! Everything at island mantra is individually made with love care and passion, and oh boy you can see it in the products. Lyris herself is as wonderful as her work, she is more than happy to go above and beyond for you, if she can change or tweak or add anything to a product, even make the product from scratch, she will. I honestly would recommend anyone travelling to Antigua, to visit Lyris and her amazing Island Mantra at least once on your trip. I for one will be returning in April and I can't wait! :) :) :)

If you are like me, wandering through endless stalls of cheap, made in china, "crafts" that all look alike is tantamount to torture. So get off the beaten track and head to Island Mantra, just 10 minutes out of St. John. Lyris is talented and personable and willing to go the extra mile with you. Happily, she has a paypal account, so no cash or credit card are needed.
I purchased a fantastic painting done on a piece of salvaged palm wood, briliant leather earrings and earrings made from painted sea fan pieces. Absolutely unique! We called from our hotel to be sure she was open, as she does show her work in another gallery as well as a weekly art fair.
I will treasure these items; they really made my day.
