The crew was great and we enjoyed the whole experience. We sailed up and the St. Martin coastline and and back in a schooner. I would recommend this experience for anyone.

Wir hatten als Kleingruppe Tickets für einen Halbtagestrip mit dem Großsegler "Mercedes" von Rostock aus mit Törn hinaus auf die Ostsee und zurück nach Warnemünde (Hanse-Sail) gebucht. Es war ein herrliches Erlebnis: Pünktliches Boarding und Ablegen, eine sehr nette junge Crew, das Schiff ausgebucht, aber nicht überlaufen, tolles Wetter (mit teils heftigem Seegang auf der Ostsee und entsprechend einigen Seekranken, vor allem Kinder und ältere Damen), sehr viele Informationen über das Schiff und das Segeln selber, alles tadellos sauber, sehr faire Preise an Bord (Selbstversorgung möglich aber eigentlich nicht nötig dank Catering), selber Anpacken bei Bedarf. Die "Mercedes" war übrigens das einzige Großsegelschiff vor Warnemünde, das wirklich fast alle Segel gesetzt hat und hart am Wind segelte, während die anderen nur vor sich hindümpelten oder mit Motorkraft fuhren. Also: Sehr empfehlenswert, allerdings empfiehlt sich vorab die Einnahme einer Reisetablette bei rauem Seegang!

Have been on many cruise ship shore excursions. Have to rank this on at or near the top. Our trip wasn't on the ship pictured, rather on a schooner. The crew was personable, informative, and just plain nice. Passengers can just relax or help crew hoist sails, etc. They even served homemade refreshments.

The sailing ship was a good size for the group of 40-50 people and it was really clean. The crew was very friendly and it was a family-oriented trip. They were also very accommodating to their visitors, they provided plenty of refreshments throughout the trip, and had the option to buy more if desired. The crew was very knowledgeable about the island and the ship and were eager to share with their guests. Before I went on the trip, I did not know anything about the island, and now I have a new found appreciation for the island of St. Martin.

This was the best outing of our whole cruise. There was something so real and vital about the crew. It was an opportunity to see how a sailing ship worked, watch the crew putting up sails and winding them in again, tying up ropes, reacting to the wind and weather and always working as a team.
It was fascinating to hear how they had sailed this 120ft schooner over from Holland to the Caribbean & the crew were always happy to answer any questions you had about what they were doing or why. One was able to join in and help with the ropes or take the wheel under supervision. Both my husband and I tried this. Other people simply sat back and enjoyed the view, as there is plenty of room either in the shade or the sun.
There were about 15 passengers on board that day.
Other people relished just being at sea, taking photos etc, so the day is really what you make of it yourself.
Our trip lasted about 3&1/2 hours, sailing up the coast and back, past the devastated hotels damaged by hurricane Irma. We also saw planes land on the famous St Maarten runway that terminates by the beach.
A welcome drink of lemonade was served and a small fruit cocktail. Simple snacks like crisps were available to buy for a dollar & I believe they served drinks too.
I would certainly do this trip again, and would have loved a longer trip out, time allowing, but we had to schedule our excursion to the time our cruise ship was in port. Celebrity Eclipse arranged this trip, but you can contact El dorado sailing ship directly. They are a totally professional crew, open, friendly and welcoming too.

This was a great shore excursion offered by our cruise line. The Eldorado is a 114 ft. Schooner and is beautifully outfitted and well kept. Perfectly organized right from the beginning it is a short walk from the ship. You have the opportunity to help hoist the sails and you can steer the ship. It was fun and relaxing but the most impressive thing about this tour is the crew. Very young but so experienced and knowledgeable. Very engaging and well spoken, willing to share interesting facts and local lore. Highly recommend! Onboard drinks for purchase.

The itinerary and activities are as described in other reviews. My husband and I agreed this was the most professional tour we've ever taken. The crew was 1st rate and we had a great time.

We booked to sail on this while we were on a Royal Caribbean cruise. To say we were hugely disappointed is an understatement. The schooner was overbooked with very little seating places for the amount of people on board. We were then expected to assist the crew to hoist the sails and do a lot of things on the boat. The food that we were given wasn't tasty at all, and limited in choice. The biggest problem though was the fact that when the crew were giving a talk about the history of the island, unless you were sat directly in front of them you couldn't hear what they were saying. They need to invest in sound system so that everyone can hear what they are talking about..

We booked this excursion through our cruise ship, Royal Caribbean. We were looking for a relaxing way to see the island and this excursion delivered it. My mom recently had foot surgery so strenuous excursions are to be avoided. The most strenuous part of the excursion was the 10 minute walk from our ship to the sailboat in the blazing hot sun.
Once aboard the ship, our trip was very pleasant. The crew was very friendly and knowledgeable. We were offered lemonade once we arrived on board. Cocktails are available for additional charge. At the end of your tour they offer you complementary vegetable soup but chips, cookies, and snacks are also available for $1 each.
We sailed for over an hour to get to our destination. As you begin sailing passengers are able to take turns hoisting the sales and sailing the boat. On our way to the cove we passed the famous airport and we were able to see some planes taking off and landing 50 feet over the beach. The sight was pretty cool. We then came to a cove where we were able to swim in the water or over to the private beach. We only stayed in the cove for about 45 minutes before we had to head back to our ship. I wish we would have had more time in the water as it is the most beautiful water I have ever swam in.
The solar eclipse took place while we were sailing so that was an added bonus and a very unique sight to see while sailing in the Caribbean.
For families thinking of booking this excursion... there were families on board with us. The older children did well. They enjoyed sightseeing and swimming in the water. However, there were younger children who didn't seem to enjoy it as much. There is a lot of down time on the excursion so children who get bored easily or can't sit still for long periods of time probably wouldn't do well on this tour.
Overall, I really enjoyed this excursion. The crew was very friendly and the sights of the island are breathtaking. The water was beautiful. I could have stayed in it all day.

This was the highlight of our cruise. The crew is awesome and accommodating. Nothing like a 130 foot sailing ship creasing through the ocean under sail. Cant stop talking to my friends back home about it.

Saw that there is a possibility of motion sickness on the Tall Ship. I experience Vertigo often and am wondering if motion sickness was a problem for you and if there is anything that I should know or/plan for prior to booking tickets? The last thing I want is to sit in a "puke room" for 3.5 hours. How did you enjoy the trip?

For me, as long as the ship is moving, motion sickness is not a problem - only when it stops at sea which it doesn't. This might be counter intuitive but I had no problem. As it is a great trip, just take some sea-sickness pills beforehand and just enjoy the experience. When I was there all the passengers were fine.
