Take a break from the beach and stroll through the stone and coral ruins. As of October 2024, the jungle is reclaiming the ruins. Trail is slippery in some parts and the placards need cleaning. Didn’t make it to the tombs, trail getting overgrown.

This was pretty good, and we also did the trail that went along with it. History and ruins geeks will love this, however we were only a little of both. The signs are sort of faded, but you can make out the words. Pretty good for something free - would recommend, but make sure you wear hiking boots or athletic shoes! Note: We went with a 10-year-old and 14-year-old, and this was pretty educational. Family-friendly!

We stopped here as part of an island tour. It's too bad we visited this site after Annaberg, because Annaberg is much better. I'd highly recommend seeing this one first. It's getting overgrown by vegetation and the few descriptive signs they have are hard to read.

My husband and I wanted to explore a sugar plantation and this one did not disappoint! There’s convenient free parking right across the street. It’s a .5 mile loop trail (some slightly uphill) with signs posted along the way about the history and plants. There were two cemeteries also. Highly recommend. We tried Catherineburg first, but there were no signs posted, so you don’t know what you’re looking at, and it was overgrown.

If you love ruins, these are easily accessible from the road. NO handicapped access. Recommend running shoes. You get more history online than you do from the stanchion.

When the park was able to give tours, this was the best. Our ranger tour guide was very knowledgeable about these ruins and the old sugar mill buildings and processes. He explained everything which was great because any ruins we went to afterwards, like Annaberg and the one at the end of the Reef Trail, we knew what the buildings were and what went on at each site. Highly recommend, when the tours start again, to do this site right away before going to any other ruins so you really understand what you see at each place.

Took Car Ferry to St. John headed to the National Park the beaches are beautiful and immediately off the main road thru the park sit these Ruins. They are nice, numerous Sugar Mill fire kilns distinguishable, and numerous pilars and partial walls. There is a small cemetery on the hill with 4 vaults above ground. One as recent as 2012 with birth date over 100 years ago, guess an old family plot before the US named it a National Park.

There's not much to do or see on St. Thomas except shop for overpriced gems and jewelry or go to the beach. Since we live on a beach in "real life", that left us with this and little else. Hardly worth the visit, but the history is interesting.

This was a nice reprieve from the warmer temps on the beach. It's a lovely walk throughout, very jungly and beautifully shaded. The ruins are really something to see and actually get to walk on and through. It's a trip when you pause and think about what life may have been like for people living and working there. The facilities down towards the beach are very nice and clean, although we did not go all the way down to the actual beach so I can't comment on that, but you can purchase refreshments and snacks near the bathrooms.

Although your post is a couple of years old, maybe you can recall how you got a guide. I am not OVERLY suspicious, but would want to get someone who is good and also reasonable.
Any "don't miss this" things for St John. Looks like lots of beaches and lots of beauty and a couple of ruins. Anything else?
