Save yourself the money and go to the free public beach right next door.

We were at Freeport, Grand Bahamas because it was a port of stop on our cruise line. We took our chances with not booking an excursion through the ship because we knew we just wanted to be at a beach and figured we could get a local to take us to a great beach for cheaper than the cruise line.
Pirates Cove has a shuttle service, disguised as local taxis to get cruise goers to their beach. I talked to two different taxi drivers who seemed to be with two different companies about taking us to Pearl Island,which was a destination our cruise was offering and sounded great. Each one said it would be $40 a person each way (there were 4 of us) to get to Pearl Island because of the distance. However they could take us to Pirate's Cove for $25 a person which would include round trip taxi ride and entrance to an all inclusive beach, with chairs, umbrellas, bathrooms, shopping, ect. One of the drivers did say that if we wanted to do the zipline or get food that would be an extra charge. Because of the price difference we felt like that was a good and safe option.
We got to Pirate's Cove with relative ease... however the taxi we were in was a very old Toyota minivan, straight from the 80's, and there was a dispute between drivers who would actually take us.
Once at the location, we paid the fees (we were able to combine the taxi fees and beach entrance in one payment, which at the time I thought was really convenient) and entered the "park". It was packed. There were definitely shops, food, and amenities, and truthfully looked like a fun place to be. However, there was no beach space and the lounge chairs that were said to be included were $25 for the old rikity ones and $50 for the nicer ones with cushions.
On the other side of a rope that was sectioning off Pirate's Cove's portion of the beach, was a little lady waving at us to come over... to a vast and empty section of beach. Turns out, that whole beach is public and free, except for Pirate's Cove section. We spent our whole day on the quiet, unpopulated beach, snorkeling, laying out, buying food, souvenirs, and hair braiding from locals (Bernie's Tiki Hut), supporting them directly, and not in Pirate's Cove. We loved our experience and wished we would have known about Bernie's little section of Paradise before getting suckered at Pirate's Cove!
I gave Pirate's Cove two stars because the taxi service was convenient and it did look like a fun place to be... just really expensive and really packed. So if that's what you are looking for then maybe you will love it.

Good place for a day at the beach

This beach met our expectations for a family day excursion from the Carnival Dream. The water is nothing spectacular but met the needs of young and old in the family. We did not do any of the water park activities.

Busy but no complaints

The beach was pretty. Some sea grass but nothing unmanageable. Paid $12 each to get in. $25 to rent chairs. We came off a cruise ship so it was packed. We did have a good time. The pina colas where GREAT! A little busy for our taste but no complaints.

Friends trip on cruise!

We had an absolute blast hanging on the beach with group of 12! Bar was open although busy, they kept our thirst quenched! Banana boat ride was a neat little tour, although probably wouldn’t do it again due to water in face the entire time! Kayaks, paddle boards, volleyball, etc all included! Water is gorgeous and staff was amazing! Must try fresh tropical conch salad and fritters! They offer massage, hair braiding and shopping options as well! We didn’t zip line, but it looked fun! Definitely a great option for spending the day on Freeport!

There is a $12 cover charge. Everything here is charged separately. If you want to sit on the beach, you rent the chairs or chaise lounge chairs. It's loud and doesn't feel authentic. The taxi drivers will talk you into it telling you that places like Sand Bar and Clevelands are much more, but are in reality they only 7 mins further. This is NOT the place to go if you want a quiet day at the beach without being acosted at every turn.

Never again! We were seated 6 rows of chairs & umbrellas back from the water, so we only saw people getting up & down from their chairs to go get the tiny cups of rum punch or whatever they were serving. Charlie one of the chair & umbrella guys was SO rude to everyone that he came in contact with. I couldn’t believe that the whole ride there we were being told how much they needed tourists & then we were argued with, put where we couldn’t see the water, had 6 Oz cups of rum drinks, so by the time you got to your seats, you were done with it & were served 2 ribs with minimal meat, no pasta salad, because they were out & dry rice & “peas”. I wish we had just stayed on the ship & saved our money.

This place sucked we paid 40 dollars a person to go tubing and we where told that we would get 12 laps we only got 1 this is a complete scam food took over 2 hours to be made when we where told it would take 15 minutes there was so many more things bad about this place please never go. It is a big scam

Horrible. Paid $99 each and didn’t even get a chair on the beach. Everything was an extra fee….even a table on the beach with a shade was $65. Food was mediocre at best and only six items total. Drinks were good, but small. Couldn’t wait for the bus to come and pick us up.

Many many hidden costs, the beach is patrolled by salesmen who aren’t short of charging you to breathe.

They will tell you at the port that kayaks, paddle boards and zip line are all included - this is not the case, everything is charged separately. When you arrive, after you’ve paid $14 return for your ‘taxi’ you will be charged for admission ($12), a towel($10) , a sun lounger ($28) and any amenities you thought were included. This is not made clear at the port. Avoid this place like the plague…

The water park wasn’t open and the cashier told us the kayaks were included and they were not.
There was a cruise ship in port when we got there so it was super busy but the staff was nice and made me a dirty pirate drink that was amazing. Great prices on a bucket of beer too.
