The golden beach can only be accessed by climbing down a 10ft bank of large pebbles, there are no ramp/steps so completely inaccessible and dangerous if you have a pram/wheelchair or mobility issues. A member of our party fell and has needed hospital treatment. It claims to be dog friendly but at peak times dogs are only permitted on a third of the beach (in practice it is a sixth at either end of the beach and the least accessible parts).

went on 29degrees day.. barely felt the heat. the water is so shallow so you need to walk out a while to get a little swim.. and so calm, so no good for surfing but made it fabulous and safe for all our kids to swim/tube/inflatable play and more.. didn't need to worry about strong currents or waves pulling them out.. as it was just so calm and shallow...we parked for free behind other cars on the road along the golf course and climbed up over the barrier to find a quiet spot..loads of sand when tide is going out...

A stunning beach, very clean, a short drive from Barmouth ( if you use the old toll bridge - it's only 80p) ideal for walking the beach, relaxing or with the kids, it's very clean too! It's not a swimming Beach due to some of the currents. It's like a place trapped in time ( in a good way) , we parked at the end of the slipway, having been here before, the weather wasn't being kind, nonetheless though it's still stunning in poor weather, spent a couple of hours walking, reminiscing, have been visiting for almost 35 years and we will be back again in a few weeks.

Another long beach ideal for strolling along on a dry day. Sandy at low tide with large pebbles higher up the beach, often reached by the high winter tides. A small village, Fairbourne , does have some holiday accommodation and a nice café right on the beachside. Or enjoy a very long walk across the Barmouth bridge to there and back.

A lovely setting, with great views. A little bit of history made it all that much more enjoyable. The one down side was that the pebbles were a little too irregular and my daughter had problems stacking them for our throwing game (joke).

Beach looks lovely but as we are elderly it is impossible to access as you have to clamber down a steep bank of rocks and boulders some of which are slippery. My husband fell and struggled to get up & I could not help. There does not seem to be any safe access for anyone not so young and nimble. So disappointing as spending a week in Fairbourne!

First time visiting Fairbourne Beach. It's very stony and pebbly at the top but near to the water, there is lovely soft sand. The water is quite clear and the beach wasn't too busy at all. We sat and watched the sunset after our son played in the water and built sandcastles for hours! A really enjoyable day. The beach was very clean and tidy.

The lovely thing about Fairbourne is that it doesn't get crowded like some beaches. Stunning scenery, clean and if you look properly you might be lucky enough to spot dolphins! A highlight for us anyway.

Having another holiday in Snowdonia, had an excellent return to Fairbourne Beach, even in the Welsh Summer of rain.
Great fun had by all picnicking on the beach, flying kites and splashing in rockpools.
Sadly no lifeguards here, so it should be noted before going into the water.

When the tide is in, it's a steep shingle beach (which is very difficult to climb up) but as the tide ebbs, wide stretches of sand appear. It is also a gently shelving beach, so safe for children to paddle. If you don't like walking on shingle, there's a promenade at the back. As well as being a great beach there are also excellent views of the surrounding hills. There is a car park and refreshments, ice creams and a small amusement arcade are also available.

are there any showers around by the beach?

No there are no showers at the beach. There is a public toilet at the Southern end of the beach near the WW2 pill box. Please be aware that the toilets in the Penhryn Bar & Grill are not available to the public. The bar staff are very hot on this to the point of rudeness. They kicked my daughter and grandkids out, even though they said that they were coming to the bar afterwards.
Is there disabled access onto the beach?

You can drive a car onto a small car park at the southern end, you need to cross the miniature railway line.

Hi, does anyone know what times dogs are restricted on the beach or is it 24 hours during 1st April - 31st September? I can see a map of where there are restricted on Gwynedd council website but it doesn't state any times. Thanks

I didn't see any "dog" signs. Locally to me its the main summer months where there are sections on the beach for dogs and sections for NO dogs. If you haven't had an answer check with the local tourism, the Fairbourne Railway folk maybe able to assist

are dogs restricted on the beach?
Dogs are restricted from a small part of the middle of Fairbourne Beach from april 1st to September 31st . The restrictions are signposted and a pdf map is available at Gwynedd council website. Sorry but TA will not allow links in answers so search for Gwynedd dog control orders
