Another amazing visit to the Newt, this time we took our extended family, including 4 grand kids it’s really is a magical place, the little ones loved the water, the grass, the flowers, eating apples from the fruit trees, the quirky outdoor furniture, the story of the garden, the tree top walk, so much to do. if only we could have spent more time there, we planned the last night of the family get together staying at the Newt, but 1 night is never going to do it justice, still we have membership now ( automatic when you say there)
The rooms were great, quirky, well thought out, beautiful details, spacious, our room had 2 baths , plus a shower.
The gardens were lovely as usual , our plan is to visit all four seasons , we have done spring and autum so far, we are looking forward to visiting again
Oh almost forgot the `Roman Villa, to see how a ( rich) Roman lived was just fascinating, who else than the Newt would go to the trouble and expense of building a brand new full Roman villa, a must 👍

Hugely disppointing for the price. There are better gardens at every National Trust property. There was completely inadequate signage. No picnics allowed. And the automated headset in the Roman Villa experience was incredibly irritating - they have overengineered something that worked perfectly well before. The staff were friendly and helpful, but ultimately we felt ripped off. You can get access to all NT or EH properties for the same annual fee, frankly I can't see why anyone would renew here.

We were denied entry to the gardens, because entry is restricted to members or named friends of a member. We were prepared to pay £25 per person, but this offer was completely dismissed by the reception staff. Hopefully this post will save other people from wasting their time visiting!

This was our second visit and we really enjoyed our first visit a year ago. I am delighted to say this second visit lived up to expectations. Everything here is done with an eye for detail and a view that perfection is the outcome for all that visit. It has a gorgeous atmosphere with many young families who probably have season tickets and then people who like us have come along for the day. We used our RHS membership and attended on a Tuesday to reduce costs. The shops are elegant and have some interesting things. The Deli is really great for foodies (and yes you can get a perfect picnic from the Deli). The Garden Cafe has a beautiful outlook with chiefly a vegetarian menu (side dishes are where you select your meat!) It was delicious and wines to accompany come from BabbelonStoron in South Africa and gorgeous. The grotto is fun (but for little ones some might find it a tad scarey!) The history of gardens is a must but actually there is so much to enjoy you need to allow a full day. Plenty of places to get refreshments. including ice cream on site. The gardens themselves, are really a mix of cottage gardens, but also orchards, wild areas, manicured areas and lots more.

Located in Somerset, The Newt is a working country estate surrounded by woodlands, an orchard, farmland and formal gardens. Hidden within the gardens is a beautiful grotto and a tree-top walkway where one can appreciate the English countryside views and wildlife. Also, there is a Roman Villa (replica) to explore; it is inspired by the unearthing of historical settlement on the estate grounds. The Parabola is gorgeous and features a collection of apple trees alongside a water feature and can be viewed from the winter garden where guests can relax and drink coffee/tea.
All the produce grown is served in the restaurant and can be bought from the farm shop too. There is a small gift shop too.
The parking is very good with multiple electric charging points and great spaces. Guests can ask for transportation to the main attraction to avoid walking through the woodland on the decking walkway. There are many facilities including toilets for everyone, tours and workshops. The app can be quite confusing for some people so I would suggest asking a staff member to help if it proves difficult. The staff are very friendly and welcoming.
The produce and beverages served are very good.
Note: you do need to have membership to enter the gardens. However, you can be a member's 'guest' for the day for a smaller fee.
The Newt, although beautiful, is very manicured (it almost feels fake/ like entering a different world) and so it is VERY different to a National Trust property. But, do not let this deter you but, rather, keep it in mind.

Very few places to sit down and actually rest, despite how vast the place is. Felt very much like I wasn't welcome as there was an awful lot of standing up if you wanted to view any of the indoor bits.
Not sure that I like the pricing structure, or why the attitude appears to be that only those with money are welcome.
Toilet facilities in general basic and not great.
Didn't actually see much whilst we were there.
Disabled parking is a joke. Number of very subtly marked bays. Not actual bays at all just some more gravel that should fit three cars in, but in reality, someone's parked stupidly and cut it down to two.
Considering the outlandish guest price, I found it awful that there's no concession for people such as myself with a mobility disability. I literally struggle to get outside of the central courtyard and all the price exaggerated facilities that you run, but yet I'm still paying full price?
Unless your child is called Tarquin, Cuthbert or Milly, you can bet that they won't be welcome.
Very elitist, thinks far too much of itself, not for me.

The gardens and grounds are extensive and well spread out. It's a hike to ensure you cover all of the features. Clearly a lot of time and money has been spent on the hard landscaping and it is impressive. However the overall effect is disjointed and appears manufactured , soul less as has been mentioned. Not as good as they think it is. The food on offer is poor and the staff "patchy". It's good but the RHS and NT do it better.

The Newt is a truly extraordinary place to visit. It would take several days to do it full justice. We have now visited four times, the most recent visit being with grandchildren. The Roman Villa is an amazing reconstruction of the house that once stood there using authentic methods. My grandchildren aged 8 and 10 spent an hour and a half in the adjoining museum before even venturing to the villa itself. On the way to the villa we visited the Wyvern where my granddaughter was brave enough to put her hand in its mouth. We also visited the recently established four seasons garden. There are a number of eating places as well as the delicatessen shop featuring mainly local produce but with a small selection of goods from South Africa.

I visited the Newt and joined online for annual membership. Spent my time taking photos and walking the grounds.
Subsequently I found out that the Newt management has close ties to the barbaric local hunt. (Blackmore Vale and Sparkford)
They host and allow them to hunt on their land.
I cancelled my membership straight away and will not return. They claim to be green and care about wildlife but I think not!

Visited free as an RHS member but slightly disconcerted to have to pay £25 for a day ticket for my husband, as this seemed expensive. The gardens and grounds are very extensive, and there is a lot of walking between different areas. It is obvious that no expense has been spared on the design and implementation of the gardens. Despite this, there was a certain soullessness. A major disappointment was being unable to visit the Roman villa. We only found out when we got there that we should have booked in advance, and there were no places free for almost 2 hours. What a pity that we were not told this when we arrived as we could have booked a convenient time. We did mention this on exiting but didn't really seem to sink in to the staff. We did not try the catering or buy anything in the shops as everything was very overpriced. We are National Trust and English Heritage members and feel these memberships offer much better value.

I’m looking for feedback on the spa facilities.

My wife thoroughly enjoyed the spa facilities and the swimming pool and said she would recommend them. I simply sat in the conservatory area and waited on her. Comfy chairs and the smells were very relaxing wafting from the spa area.

How can one buy a gift voucher and what will it cover. Cannot find them on the website.
เขียนเมื่อ 28 มกราคม 2022
You have to buy a membership at the gate to see the gardens and all the sights the garden has to offer. If you are staying at the Newt you don’t need a membership.

Hello. I wondered what duration it takes to look around the gardens? Considering getting this as a gift but unsure whether it’s a full day / half day or only 2 hours etc? Thank you!
เขียนเมื่อ 6 กันยายน 2020
2 hours is more than enough. The bits that are done are nice but it’s a work in progress. I think in a few years it will lovely but it’s in very early stages.
เขียนเมื่อ 9 กันยายน 2020
I've never been so either, just like to know if you can get to one without paying for the garden
เขียนเมื่อ 10 มกราคม 2020
You do need to pay. However you can then return free for the remainder of the year. Well worth it.

What is the charge for a renewed ticket? The email I received stated there was a £25 reduction if I renew my 2019 membership.
เขียนเมื่อ 27 ธันวาคม 2019
I was told that an annual pass will be £20 and would run for a year from your first visit. Therefore not to buy a ticket in advance. Wait till you want to go in 2020.
เขียนเมื่อ 27 ธันวาคม 2019
How much is the entrance going to cost next year?
เขียนเมื่อ 3 พฤศจิกายน 2019
My understanding was that ext year the cost of entry on your first visit will be £20 and will last for a 12 month period from that date, not just to the end of the year.
