Stuffed with food (and fun)!

We had a great time! Eduardo was knowledgeable and gave us a good mix of the history of the area and culture along with the sampling different foods. We were not quite prepared for the amount of food that we would consume! But it helped us find some new local favorites in the Pino Suarez market. Definitely a fun tour for those new to Mazatlan.

Night Eats Food Tour

We were a group of five and wanted to do the Night Eats Tour however all of the tours on line could not accommodate the whole group. Maaike, the owner of Flavor Teller, responded quickly to my email and opened up another tour for our group. We were warmly greeted by Maaike at the agreed upon location and headed out to our first stop. It was a cenaduria in Old Centro and the asado served was delicious. Next we went to a churro street vendor and watched the process and enjoyed an ample sample of the tasty treats. Our next stop was a busy little taqueria with fantastic food. After this we went to another street vendor where we sampled esquites - a white corn salsa with sour cream and cheese. This was not a big hit with the group. Our final two stops included a choice of homemade helado or a Michelado in one of Mazatlan’s oldest bars. Both were tasty although for the price paid we felt that we could have all been given a sample of both of these.
Flavor Teller takes extra care to cater to individual tastes regarding spice and any other possible dietary issues. The tour lasted about three hours and we were transported around to the various sites by the little red taxi trucks. All in all, it is a great tour with lots of interesting information about Mazatlan’s history and it’s great hidden food gems!

Mazatlan Seafood Secrets Tour

We had an amazing time on Flavor Teller's newest tour, the Mazatlan Seafood Secrets Tour. I am lucky to live in Mazatlán but even so every place that we visited was new to me. Maaike will take you to amazing places with many decades of history and share the stories and history that will make this tour a highlight of your stay, whether you are here for 4 hours or 4 years.

Only have a few hours in Mazatlan? Want an experience that combines history, architecture, authentic Mexican food, and a little bit of shopping all at once? Book with Flavor Teller! I can't say enough good things about it.

Our tour guide was Eduardo, and I enjoyed every minute of the tour with him. He talked about the city's history and culture. He showed us locations with fascinating and sometimes funny stories. He took us on a thorough tour of the Mercado Pino Suarez, showing us many of the shops and stalls and explaining things as we went. We got to taste tamales, tostadas, fruit juices, a kind of pork jerky, several types of cheese, a marshmallow-like candy, escamocha (fruit salad), and a pork sandwich. The price of the tour was well worth it for what we got out of the experience.

Eduardo even went out of his way to find a shop owner willing to prepare nopales (for a tiny extra cost of 70 pesos) so my wife could say that she had tasted cactus!

Don't eat breakfast before going on this tour. Save room for all the delicious food!

Back for Seconds!

This was my second time taking this tour -- and I cannot say enough amazing things about the day. Seriously, book this. My wife and I have been raving about our first experience for the last few years and we finally got a chance to bring some friends along and they were blown away. I won't share too much to take away from your experience, but know that Maaike does an amazing job of sharing details about the history of the foods, locations, vendors, etc. You will not be disappointed!!

An incredible day

This trip was a gift from my family for my husband and I to attend while in Mazatlan. It was incredible! The opportunity to learn the ins and outs of a traditional market and then be able to prepare the food with a traditional chef was exceptional! We gained insights about the food safety and the importance of the sales to the family run businesses as well as the culture and daily life of local people through food. And the food!!!!!! I learned I love food that I had always avoided because I didn’t think I would like it. Now not only do I love it, but we can prepare it too!

Walking tour
Did this tour today, Eduardo was our tour guide. Can’t say enough about this, it was so much fun and informative. Eduardo was very knowledgeable about the area and it’s history, the different foods as well as other culture items. He was so personable and had a great sense of humor. I was so full when we were done!!! I’d highly recommend this tour.

Amazing!

We had a wonderful time on the Barrio Bites Tour! Some amazing/unique food, fun, culture, and history tied into one. We went to places we would not experience on our own. I have done 3 different food tours with the Flavor Teller and enjoyed each one. I highly recommend a tour and can’t wait for my next one!
