Thursday 3rd February we were walking down the Malecon, in Puerto Vallarta. The famous seafront walk is home to a plethora of statues and sculptures. Some are easy to get their concepts, however, others are downright wacky and off the wall, so technically nothing should be a surprise.
However, we were surprised, turning a corner we came face to face with a small Faro, lighthouse on the street.The black and white structure was built in 1932 and was operational until 1970. At the top of structure there is a square viewing platform all the way round, with the lamp at it’s centre.
We did hear that it was possible to climb up inside to the viewing platform at the top. When we visited the door was locked, so we could not go in, perhaps as result of the COVID restrictions.
On one side of the lighthouse there is a plaque made with ceramic tiles with an inscription, which roughly translates as follows:-
"Leading marker, inaugurated on August 15, 1932. During the day it served with a sign of black and white bars. At night he used a dioptric lantern with acetylene equipment. One hundred and ninety-three meters from this point there is another beacon, on Calle de Matamoros. Both concluded and served the vessels when the Port in the El Salad estuary began operating on August 20, 1970. H Constitutional City Council 1995 - 1997"

I have been visiting Puerto Vallarta for many years without knowing about this viewpoint. I saw it listed on TripAdvisor as an attraction in the central part of town so made plans to seek it out. It is located about a block up the hill from Gaby’s Restaurant in a section of town that I had never walked through. The lighthouse is visible from Matamoros Street which is where the stairs are located to get up to it. The back side of the lighthouse has a spiral staircase which you brings you straight to the top. The views are excellent, especially of the nearby church. The best part is this scenic viewpoint is easily reached without lots of uphill hiking.

A short steep climb from the Malecon and you reach the spiral staircase which takes you to this viewpoint. We walked up Calle Zaragoa to reach it and it was easy to find. The views are excellent, from looking down on the Church of Our Lady of Guadalupe, the pantile rooftops to the far reaching views of the coast and out to sea.

It is located only a couple of blocks from the Malecón, going up Mina Street.
There is a great little lighthouse, a little climb to the top of the spiral staircase You have a nice view of the entire Bay of Banderas, the church and surrounding areas from above the rooftops.
If you are able to, you must hike to this lookout. The trip is worth it!

This is a great little lighthouse with so much history. The climb up on the open metal rod staircase is short. But as you get closer to the top you feel like you are walking into the sky! The view is amazing. There are so many ways to get great views in Vallarta and this is just one of them. We got great video as well as photos while up there. It’s pretty quiet up there too. Loved this experience!

This was a fairly easy climb. It was mostly stairs. It was a nice view of the city. To find it, locate the black and white lighthouse on the Malecon. Cross the street at that point and head up the stairs. Didn't take long at all.

This was a nice view but not nearly as impressive as some of the reviews led one to believe. Short trip from the malecon. It was a much different view than one usually gets of the church though.

Just a short walk up the hill from the lighthouse on the Malecon is a matching one higher on the hill near Gringo Gulch area. Apparently as I was told my a local artist that there used to be a third one but it was torn down when it became in disrepair. It's free and a little climb to the top of the spiral staircase and you have a wonderful view of the beach, the church and surrounding areas from above the rooftops. Nice spot for a photo of your group with the beach and city down below.
