A lovely expanse of sand for kids, dogs, families, friends and couples to enjoy. Visited in autumn at low tide on a sunny day, fabulous walk and enjoyed refreshments at the cafe

A big beach when the tide is out and a good walk along it to Chapel Porth for an ice cream or “Hedgehog “. About a 40 minute gentle walk one way. Really popular for surfing too.

You need to plan a trip to this beach, like many on thus coast at high tide the beach in the main is swallowed up!
With the tide going out you are free to explore wide sandy stretches rock pools and more! Beware the tide does come in quick and access to dry land is limited.

We stayed in town for four nights. Going to the beach after dinner was a thing we did daily. Just a short walk away from our BnB and restaurants.
It's a very lively place this beach. All kind of folks of all ages. Just enjoying the sun, the views, the water. Everybody seemed to be in a good mood.
It is a fantastic spot, this beach. And watching the sunset is just amazing, doesn't matter how often you've seen it. I love sunsets. When the sun is down it can get quite cool though - even in summer.
It's a very clean beach as well and pretty wide. There's enough space for everybody. For BBQ, to play, to relax, to walk your dogs.
The water itself is pretty cold and depending on the winds pretty rough. But we didn't plan on swimming anyways. It's just a beautiful place. To get even better views you can walk up the small trail on the eastern side of the beach.
The beach is dog-friendly in the evenings all year! That was a pleasant suprise. Our Bulldog loved it - at least as much as we did.
The Blue Bar just at this beach is probably your best bet for dinner in town. We enjoyed it.
There is parking at the beach, it's a pretty big lot, but was full on the weekend.

Pictures show a different side of this beach, looks sandy good access when in reality it's really stoney to small rocks with a fresh water stream flowing straight down the middle, no dry crossing anywhere on the beach, its really just a beach for surfers and why not they deserve there time too. limited shops to say this is a village beach with a captive audience but it does have a fish and chip shop which is always a plus, unless I was intent on surfing I wouldn't go out of my way to find this beach

Beautiful beach very strong waves further out keep an eye on your children . Lovely lifeguards. There was flags showing where to swim and surf but Lots not adhering. Lots of compass jellyfish in the water please teach your kids to respect our marine life as unfortunately saw an older child whacking one in the water with a spade. Please leave them alone and if you can rescue them with a net to stop them getting washed up put them in a deep rock pool. Lovely caves to explore and rock pools

This is our favourite beach in Cornwall. Brilliant for rockpools, surf (when the conditions are right), clean, good parking and toilets. Seasonal dog ban also.

We went to Porthtowan, to have something to eat, and found a lovely beach, well worth taking a look, if your in the area.

It’s really beautiful. Didn’t get too busy, an abundance of rock pooling at low tide, seemingly crystal clear clean water, nice surfing/body boarding hire and activities. Super clean, hardly any dogs. Nice crowd. Very picturesque, parking was ok until 11 ish. Bring change as the card machine didn’t work on occasion. 6.90 for all day.

Great beach with a lovely walk when the tide is out. Dramatic cliffs and nearby trails give a good view of the area. Dogs are allowed on the beach before 10am and after 6pm. Lots of surfers and two lovely bars nearby.

Hi, I would definite say the beach is accessible. There is a car park and beach cafe within yards.

Why are dog owners taking their dogs on beach when it clearly states they are Banned from Easter until October we were there yesterday and saw group of people with a dog walking on Porthtowan beach nobody said a word to them and they were in full view of life guards etc.This is a lovely beach let's keep it that way

Many people, such as me and my family like to holiday in Cornwall with kids and dogs. There needs to be more dog friendly beaches. I always pick up after my dog. Providing this is done and the dogs are controlled sensibly we are adding to the economy. My family and our dogs travel to Cornwall at least three times a year. We buy Cornish food and rent Cornish property - make a good contribution. Please encourage us, don't turn us away.
