I was lucky enough to be here at the beginning of the growing season. The combination of vividly patchwork fields, the red clay, green swathes and vibrant yellow (dandelions to help keep the bee population up) and vast water made this a gloriously memorable ride. Beaches, cliffs, rolling fields - this drive has it all.

My parents and I rented a car to drive around some of the island, including the Points East drive. It turned out to be a lovely day.
I believe this should be done in good weather, with all the picturesque views you will see along the drive. Also, I feel it's important to note that this drive appears long on a map and that it will take all day. We certainly took all day, though that included a lot of stops and two meals along the way. It's shorter than it looks, though a comprehensive drive will take you 8-12 hours.
The lighthouses are nice, though they start to all look the same eventually! I'd suggest going up one and just enjoying the rest from the ground.
Souris is a good place to have a meal, a larger town almost halfway through the drive in either direction.
Overall, a very pretty drive!

My wife and I were visiting Charlottetown from Australia between 28th to 31st October and it appears there is no bus tours on at that time of year to take you to different sites. Luckily enough when visiting the town visitor centre, we were told about a Taxi driver called Blair.
I called Blair from East Connection and was able negotiate a price over the phone with him. For $120 total, he drove us around for over 3 hours to Green Gables (the house was used in the film), Cavendish (beach) and Victoria (beautiful town, no shops were open, red sand, nice beach).
Blair is really nice guy and very knowledgeable, his happy to wait in car while you explore different area’s and take photos. Blair is an older gentleman and hard to hear at times while his driving but he is very friendly and made us feel welcome. Definitely give this guy a call (902) 393-5132.

It does not matter where you are in the journey or which bend in the road you traverse, the vistas are breath-taking. Be sure to plan to take your time....! There are many intriguing places to explore along the way.

We did the East Coastal Drive on our second day, and tried to hit as many as possible. We drove all the way to East Point and stopped at Basin Head for Singing Sands Beach. It was raining so the sands didn't sing but it is a pretty area and a nice drive.

The drive is beautiful, even if you just do part of it. There are wonderful places to stop along the way, including great restaurants.
