About 100 years old and not missing a beat (in every sense). It opened as the Commodore Ballroom once upon a time and still retains its Art Deo character.
On the street level it is all retail but upstairs, the spring dance floor and all the flavor still awe performers and patrons alike.

Saw Larkin Poe last night. The Commodore is in fantastic condition and the staff are incredibly accommodating. It was the best night out in recent memory. The girls also put on an awesome show. Well done Commodore, take my 5 stars you earned them

I just wanted to say a huge THANK YOU to The Commodore Ballroom and its staff. I purchased tickets to a concert months before an unfortunate accident resulted in me shattering my knee cap. Needless to say, I was quite immobile when the date of the concert arrived. I was concerned that I wouldn't be able to attend at all. I needn't have worried however, as the staff took excellent care of me and were very kind and considerate of the acommodations that I required. I was treated very well and was able to enjoy the entire evening. Thanks to everyone at The Commodore!

This is a must see, top shelf music venue. The sound quality is balanced, no need to bring ear plugs. Couldn't give more applause for the sound quality. Often it is difficult for me to hear vocals at shows or something happens where not all instruments dialed in. I can hear the singing, hear the drums, the bass...the electric guitar is a strong hold. I reckon musicians are enabled to play their guitars better when they come here and that's why the guitar solos are beunos. With cozy seating to drink people are able to bounce right back to the dance floor whenever they feel like it, get up right to the stage and say hi to the musicians. The floor is great to shred some tile on...Idunno if those rubber tires are still under there.. Over all it is a place a person can be themselves. Bars on all sides, the workers are genuine, kind and rad. It is no wonder bands come and play 2 or 3 nights in a row!! (steel panther, gogol bordello) My favourite place in Vancouver by far is this....the only critique I can think of though is when they let that DJ open for Infected Mushroom and he played a boring over drawn out set for 2 hours straight...almost as long the band we really came to see played for...come to think of it I think it was longer ;( That being said...commodore is the cats meow and it is worth going to just for the venue regardless of who is playing.

Large open floor place , 2 levels, plus tables. Small but good basic menu to choose from. Table service can be a little slower due to the volume of people being served. We usually get a bottle of wine and not have to worry for drink refills.

We saw Tom Odell last night and this venue was delightful. Apart from having to queue for a while due to technical difficulties it was nice when we got in. We managed to get a table but it would pay you to go early and avoid the black pillars if you are wanting to get a table and eat. The food was pretty good for this type of venue and the tempura prawns were superb. Drinks were a bit more pricey than I would expect in England but I suppose it is a club. Nice crowd of people but expect to see a few homeless people walking up and down the queue. Overall a very enjoyable night out. Tx

Before the concert we enjoyed their yummy, sticky chicken wings and ordered their beef and chicken burgers. Love the skin on the French fries. Really good portion sizes.

Built in 1929 and located on Granville Street in the heart of downtown Vancouver, there can be little doubt that the Commodore Ballroom is an icon of the city and, indeed, the country. Over the course of some 90 years, this Art Deco-style building has forged a name for itself and become synonymous with Vancouver’s vibrant nightlife. From up-and-coming artists, world-famous DJs and established names, the Commodore has done it all. If you take the time to read through this establishment’s history (beautifully and articulately recounted in the recent book, “Live at the Commodore” by Aaron Chapman), it becomes clear that a literal who’s-who has played on this time-tried stage: The Tragically Hip, The Police, Blondie, Tina Turner, Bob Marley, U2, Nirvana, the Talking Heads, Paul Oakenfold, Lady Gaga and Shaggy, amongst a host of others.
Once you visit this historic building, you can see why so many have played here and why the space is still in high demand. For a performance venue, the setting is relatively intimate: There is enough space for just under 1,000 patrons; thus, regardless of where you are in the room, you won’t miss a beat and can see the band’s every move. In short, there isn’t a bad seat in the house. The only thing that might irk some people is the fact that the Commodore is “General Admission” and mostly open-space. There is seating on the upper levels and off to the side on the main floor, but it is fairly limited. If you want to secure a seat, I’d highly recommend calling in advance to try and reserve. Either that, or line up early! If you don’t get a seat, then you can stand on the main floor and perhaps admire this venue’s famous sprung dance floor.
I’ve attended events at the Commodore a few times over the last couple of years, having seen such worthies as The Psychedelic Furs, Apocalyptica and, most recently, OMD. Each show was off the chain! The small intimate venue allowed for up-close interaction – something you just don’t get at BC Place or Rogers Arena. Sound quality + the lighting was also good and further enhanced the atmosphere. If I had to complain about anything, I’d just say the main floor, during sold out shows, gets awfully crowded. People say the Commodore is good for dancing, but that’s certainly not true during a packed show; in fact, it’s quite difficult to even move!
That said, I’d be quite remiss if I failed to acknowledge the fact that the Commodore, beyond great performances, has a complete menu of delightful food options available for those wanting more than just a drink. The menu, as listed online, strikes me as moderately high end cuisine, especially given the venue. For example, you can order Mushrooms on Toast, Tuna Poke, Meat & Cheese Board, Seafood Laksa Bowl and an APPLE PIE CRONUT for dessert! I tried the meat & cheese board and, I have to say, was quite impressed with the quality of what was received. The cheeses, in particular, were of good quality: Goat Cheese and Point Reyes Toma Cheese. The little pickles were an added bonus ;)
After getting to experience The Commodore, it’s no surprise that Billboard Magazine named this place the “most influential club in Canada” in 2011. Its social and cultural history speaks much in this regard. If you’ve never been to this venue for a show, you need to change that right this instant!

I have been here for a concert once before. I really can't think of a better venue.
We managed to get a table, so we could dance or sit as we pleased.
Table service is soooooo great. No leaving the show, to go and stand in a lineup at the bar. I think there are three bars.
Great overall set up. Nice big dance floor in front of the state, with a lot of seating and tables to the side if that's more your thing.
My only downside is the cooling system. Our table was right under a vent. Luckily I didn't check my coat, so I could layer up. Still, I wished we could have been warmer. Just a small price to pay for an awesome event at an awesome venue.

Smoking section somewhere? As in outside so you can re-enter...
My son who is 18 yrs old bought tickets to an event that is marked 19+. He won’t be drinking alcohol, just wants to see the band. Do they card at the door for 19+ events?

Yes they do
Do you have to reserve a table or first vibe first serve? If you have to reserve, how much?

Hi Richard,
To book a table reservation, call us at 604-739-4550 from 9:30am - 4:30pm Monday to Friday.
Please note, the Commodore does not take day of show reservations and does not take reservations for shows that are not yet on sale.
Due to the nature of seating needs for each show – our reservation policy is subject to change.
There will be a selection of tables available night of show on a first come first serve basis.
Hope this helps
