Book the inukshuk point vip!

My family and I reserved the vip seating with inukshuk point & it was so much fun! Couldn’t find much detail online so I’ll give it to y’all now (:
We came with my 19 month old toddler (he was free but they wouldn’t give him food) & they let us pull up the stroller to the table no problem! The meal provided is an option of food from each of the countries presenting. The inukshuk area had its own restrooms that were clean & air conditioned. Loved this experience. If you’re in Vancouver & this festival is going on I highly recommend you check it out. We stayed at the loden hotel & were able to easily walk about a mile to the festival.

Stick it out, starts slow but great finale

We visited when it was Australias show

So, to be honest we left just before the ‘grand finale’ of the fireworks as we had been a little underwhelmed at the start for the show…. However, we had been travelling for 24 hours and had two exhausted cranky teens with us.

Absolutely gutted as as we were walking the half hour back to our hotel the fireworks continued the whole time but with must more gusto culminating in about 10 minutes of continuos finale explosions - which we were able to spot thru the city buildings and (to give it its due) it was incredible.

I should say we arrived about 8.45 and had a couple of chicken and beef tacos from one of the many food trucks on offer down near English Beach bay, we got a good spot to stand in the road in between the beach and the bars/restaurants.

Una sorpresa agradable

Tenía prevista una estancia en Vancouver para realizar un crucero a Alaska y coincidió con el comienzo de la edición de Celebration of Light después de la pausa de 2 años por el COVID. No tuvimos que ni acercarnos a English Bay para ver el espectáculo, ya que disfrutamos de el desde la habitación del hotel!!! Nos alojábamos en el Sheraton Wall Centre en una habitación del piso 22

Amazing event

We were staying in Vancouver when the last night of this event was happening. I have no idea what getting to and from the event from outside the city is like but I imagine it's not easy. We walked from our hotel on Burrard Street so even with the enormous crowds it was not too much hassle.

This was the first time the event had taken place for a few years due to Covid and it seemed like a real celebration. I don't know what the total attendance was but it was certainly hundreds of thousands.

If you go, get there early. The beach will be rammed all day and the bay will be full of people on all forms of floating transport. Big boats, little boats, inflatable kayaks and even water bicycles. We arrived an hour and a half before the start and found a spot on the grass bank behind the beach.

The fireworks were incredible. I have been to many displays over the years including Disney and the championships in Plymouth, England but this was definitely one of the best I have ever seen. The combination of the setting and the scale of the display was stunning.

If you are in the area when this is on, just go. It will be crowded and it might take a while to get home but just do it.

Deuxième année que je me rends à ce festival. La première, j'ai vu un spectacle mystérieux et féerique sous la neige! Cette année, ce fut différent, mais la mise en scène est toujours aussi réussie, Les thèmes musicaux varient suivant les années, les illuminations ne sont pas figées. Il y a un renouvellement des mises en scènes, la convivialité familiale toujours au rendez-vous.
J'en garde un souvenir inoubliable.

Ein tolles Festival - aber leider ohne Lautsprecher für die Musik

Ein tolles Festival, das man unbedingt besuchen sollte. Wir sind bereits am Nachmittag am English Beach eingetroffen und mussten dann noch mehrere Stunden bis zum Feuerwerk um 22.00 Uhr warten, aber auch diese lange Zeit hat sich gelohnt: Mehrere hunderttausend Menschen verteilt über einige Strandkilometer - und alles war stressfrei und absolut friedlich! Obwohl zeitgleich noch ein Spiel im Stadion und ein Konzert der Backstreet Boys in der Innenstadt veranstaltet wurden. Die relativ wenigen Polizisten achteten im wesentlichen darauf, dass die Fluchtwege freigehalten und kein Alkohol konsumiert wurde. Trinken von Alkohol in der Öffentlichkeit ist in British Columbia verboten. Wir tranken trotzdem Alkohol, das uns dann freundlich aber bestimmt (und ganz unaufgeregt) von einem netten Polizisten abgenommen wurde. Anschließend schenkte er zur Erinnerung jedem von uns eine kanadische Anstecknadel. Wir saßen am Strand mitten zwischen Kind und Kegel und das Feuerwerk (es präsentierte sich Indien) war mit seinen monumentalen bunten Figuren grandios. Nur: Warum um alles in der Welt ist es bei ca. 600.000 Besuchern und dem Sponsorship von Honda nicht möglich, die zum Feuerwerk passend komponierte Musik nicht auch an die Strandabschnitte neben der kleinen Tribüne zu übertragen? Bei dem teuren Spektakel wäre doch sicher auch noch Geld für ein paar zusätzliche Lautsprecher drin gewesen. In der Bewertung gibt das dann leider einen Punktabzug.

Great Fireworks but watch from the Beach

The event was recommended to me on a previous visit to Vancouver so I looked at reviews and decided the beach would be too busy to see the Fireworks easily and booked the YVR Observation Deck. The fireworks were great, but the seats were a waste of time. They were badly signposted so it took us 20 minutes to find the entrance despite looking online before hand for details. There were facilities provided which I wasn't made aware either of so one of our party diverted to the toilet and because he then arrived with only 5 minutes to spare was refused entry! $50 down the drain, literally! He watched from the beach and had an excellent view while we were squashed into hard uncomfortable seats with the same view. Go for the fireworks and watch for free from the beaches.

Book a bleacher seat and enjoy!

Knowing that we'd be in Vancouver for the last of the three displays (Croatia!), I booked seats online for the YVR Observation Deck for approximately $50 each. It turned out to be a really smart decision. Knowing we had assigned seats, we had a leisurely dinner in the city, arrived about 9 p.m. and enjoyed the festival until the fireworks started at 10. The bleacher seats gave us amazing, unobstructed views; we didn't have to worry about arriving early to stake out a spot on the beach; and there were dedicated portable toilets for us (lines for the public ones were loooong). The fireworks were so impressive -- everything I was hoping for and more. Tip: Don't wait until the last minute to book. I bought mine more than a month in advance, and many seats were already sold.

This production itself is great just don't bother booking a reserved seat at YVR observation deck

The celebration of lights always wonderful to go to. The fireworks are always so beautiful and this is an event that is held annually every summer where 3 countries will compete against each other. I was offered a ticket by a friendly tourist for the YVR Observation Deck. While the view from here is very beautiful. I wouldn't bother paying the $57 for sitting on some bleachers when you can come and bring your own chair and enjoy it sitting on the beach. The bleachers were hard and uncomfortable and you are squished in with a bunch of other people. I found the volunteers that were helping with the seating were not very helpful or very friendly either and neither were the people I was sitting in a row with. I just felt badly because I didn't want the guy's ticket to go to waste when he said he would rather just watch them on the beach since he didn't know he could actually see them for free and I hate wasting money. I recommend the event, because I love seeing the fireworks but the reserved seating is a rip off and not very comfortable.
