veryone seems to cover just how educational and vast this museum is. So I will cover some practical things. I came with three little children. Just before you enter the museum, there is a security guard and on the right is Alloway Hall. You can hang your heavy coats here and here you can bring food to eat at the tables. This is important to note because no food or drink is allowed inside the museum and you’ll be walking and walking! Speaking of walking, there are red, single strollers available free of charge (if you can find one!)
My family of kids began to complain halfway through the exhibits so we made a beeline for Alloway Hall for snack time. No food is served but there were Vending machines available with soft drinks and snacks. Also, the restroom in the main lobby is for both men and women, diaper changing unit in the large stall next to sink. Hope this will help you in your planning and safe travels!

I been there twice now and I love it every time. Some days of the month it is free to go inside. Check it out !! The Manitoba Museum, previously the Manitoba Museum of Man and Nature, is a human and natural history museum in Winnipeg, Manitobheritage and science education. Kid will love it there.

I’ve always wanted to visit Winnipeg. Many people asked why? Just a feeling and learning how my fellow Canadians live. Winnipeg has impressive public spaces and the Museum is one of the finest I’ve ever visited.
It’s a strong collection with an integrated story of the history of Manitoba woven throughout. The donation by the Hudson’s Bay Company including a replica sea-faring vessel and the walk-thru 1920’s Winnipeg street experience go above the “typical Canadian city museum”. Be sure to see the Winnipeg movie.
Not knowing what to expect, I arrived two hours before the Museum closed and seeing all the galleries took that time. I didn’t have a chance to see the gift shop as it was closing as I left. It’s definitely worth experiencing if you’re coming to Winnipeg.

The museum itself is nice. However the staff aren’t the nicest. I expected more from Canadians. I always thought they’re the nicest people however the visit to the museum proved me wrong. Kaitlin (the membership coordinator) is really rude as well as security staff. Allot more time to visit the place. It’s huge and there’s so many interesting displays.

We enjoyed this museum but you have to allow most of the day to take it all in. We did learn a few tidbits about Manitoba.
I especially liked the Hudsons Bay Company information. I used to work for the Northern stores dept. that did handle all the northern stores and furs for North Alberta. The display of the Nonsuch and the port was very impressive.
They had a lot of displays of northern insects, some animals, some plants and lichen etc. Learned a lot how life exists in the northern tundra areas
Aboriginal displays explained how Inuit people survived and explained some of the other tribe movements and survival skills.
There was also a portion explained the mining and rock formations of the area.

Main gallery is a quality time but museum is a bit expensive and the dinosaur exhibit is good but doesn't take that long. Kids fav is the ship.

Loved this museum, especially the later sections focusing on the history of the HBC (Hudson’s Bay Company), Manitoba and Winnipeg. The Nonsuch is an excellent part of this museum as are all the artefacts donated and collected by the museum. My favourite part was actually the 1919 Winnipeg replica at the very end of the museum. This was so well done and beautifully set up with a boardwalk, a railway, staircases and alcoves leading to different era-appropriate Winnipeg businesses, conversation between citizens about the 1919 strike, and a darling 20s theatre. Definitely recommend the Manitoba Museum for Manitobans and visitors alike. You could easily spend the whole day here and can freely pop out for lunch in the Exchange. Great for kids as well.

There is a lot to this museum! We spent the entire day here with a break for lunch at Clementine's and for the planetarium show (weekends only), and we still didn't have enough time. The building seems manageable from the outside, but there is room after room of exhibits, information to read, and even a film on the history of Winnipeg at the end. If you like museums, plan to be here when it opens and spend the day.

The Manitoba Museum was a five-star experience! We came close to closing so the museum was relatively quiet. We would recommend around 2 hours to fully explore all the museum has to offer. The displays were educational, entertaining, and excellent. Would 100 percent recommend coming and experiencing this wonderful place.
