Hi LauraJean, the answer to your question regarding public transport to Fairview Lawn Cemetery from Downtown Halifax is a definite YES. At any of the bus stops showing the No.29 route eastbound. We got the No.29 on the Main Road near the tourist information office. Pay the driver C$2.75 and ask to be dropped off at the gates of the cemetery. Keep hold of your green bus ticket, (as long as your visit to the cemetery and surrounding area is no longer than 2 hours), your green ticket stub is then still valid for your return journey to the centre of town. By the way, the bus stop for the return journey is about 200yds on the other side of the same road where you got dropped off, just up the hill. Very easy and much cheaper than other forms of transport. Good luck.

We visited on a Saturday with the cemetery open to the public.

We took a Fall Cruise from Boston to Halifax during October but it was a few years ago. The weather was nice the entire time (mid 60s). Just had to wear a light jacket. I hope you are as lucky!

We have actually been there twice. Once, we walked off the ship and hired a limo for the day with another couple. It worked out very well. The second time, we rented a car and just walked to the car rental office which was located near the mall, about 15 minute walk, but uphill. You will need a car or some sort of transportation to get to the cemetery.

Fairview Cemetery is a long walk from Halifax's downtown but it is on a bus route - the excellent tourist information centre will be able to help you with that. If you are walking with a cane you shouldn't have too much difficulty once you reach the cemetery. The Titanic graves are clearly signposted from the main entrance and they are a short walk along a tarmaced road and off to your right. When I visited 2 elderly ladies were there as well and one of them walked with a cane. She was able to walk around the grave stones without difficulty.

There are signs to follow to the Titanic section, easy to find and park. Not sure about the explosion?

thaward gave an excellent answer above. You will want a reputable tour guide to give you all kinds of insights that you might not receiver visiting by yourself by taxi. City transit / bus would not be an efficient use of your time. Molega Tours includes the Titanic section of Fairview Lawn cemetery in their Peggy's Cove - Halifax City Tour. Yes the site is open from sunset to sun down,all year round,if you want futher info just ask.

Hi, we stayed at the Homewood suites in downtown and also had a car rental so just used our gps to get there, so can't really answer your question but perhaps if you contact the Halifax tourism they were most helpful and would suggest the best alternative. We definitely recommend taking the time to visit if you can
