I am reviewing their Ghost Walk specifically. Myself, my husband and another couple attended one of their Ghost Walks on October 22nd 2022 and left feeling very disappointed. Our reasons:
- It was a rushed tour to the point where when given "a couple minutes to look around" is literally a couple minutes so you do not get to see the entire space in many of the buildings. Especially when the tour group is large. There were many buildings we went into and only saw a fraction of it because of how rushed the tour was. We actually heard another tour guide speak to our guide and say "Sorry I am going as quickly as possible!" When their tour was still in a building we were waiting to get into.
- Many of the ghost stories included certain buildings or rooms within the building but we were unable to go see those rooms or that building. Full upper levels blocked off yet the ghost story was about that floor? Just don't share that story then.
- The tour seemed very rehearsed and not authentic. A part of these tours is how good your guide is. They just came across like a bad actor that had other places to be. No magic was created by their story telling.
- Ticket of tour DOES NOT cover parking. After a disappointing tour we were greeted with a $10.50 parking fee for being there for 75 minutes. This was the nail in the coffin for us,
- The tours are booked basically back to back so throughout our tour you could hear other tour guides which affected the overall feeling of our tour. Some guides voices echoed throughout the grounds above our own guides voice.
- There was a scavenger hunt going on at the same time and these groups had big bright lanterns. Between all the people, the bright lights and the chatter, there really was nothing spooky about it. The ambiance was stolen- and it felt like it was because they were trying to book as many things as possible for profit, forgetting that this would negatively affect the experience for the patrons.
- During the tour the guide was telling us about other dates and saying we should come back, selling us on other tours they offer with Toronto. This was so frustrating because it was during our tour time we paid for. There were other times this information could have been shared, like walking back to the main building AFTER the tour was over. Not while we're walking through the village hoping for a spooky experience.
Overall this was a very disappointing, unauthentic experience. It felt like a cash grab, Myself and my friends are big fans of these ghost walks, however after last night we will never be back and will be sure to let others know about our experience.
There are many ways to make improvements to this tour, however the main focus is going to need to shift from capitalizing on how much money you can make in a night and more on the overall customer experience.
Big thumbs down. I wouldn't pay more than $10 a person for what we got.

My husband and I have been saying for a while we wanted to visit so we deiced to go for our wedding anniversary this year.
From the moment I booked the ticket to when we left every one was extremely helpful. I booked the tickets online but accidentally wrote the wrong email address I emailed Black Creek and got a reply with my tickets attached. Once we got the village every one we spoke to was extremely helpful and informative. Everyone told us information about the part of the village we were in.
We were both surprised about the size of the village, we thought it was smaller. We had a wonderful few hours walking around and speaking to people who work there. Lovely way to spend our anniversary. Thank you

actually the village is great. I purchased lunch, a stale sandwich and a drink. I paid by debit and since then I have had over 700.00 taken out of my account. I have tried to contact someone there but you can only leave a message and they will get back to you. Piss poor management and corrupt volinteers

We visited during the special holiday lights evening that they had two days before Christmas.
It was snowing, which made the experience very special for us. It was not only entertaining to visit each open house and business, but to enter the rustic warmth of these restored places and to stand by a wood fireplace or cast iron stove was especially comforting on this cold, snowy evening. The rustic life of these settlers felt even closer to our experience for the shelter that we took in each of the buildings while learning about their lives, their pleasures and their industries. Each location had a small tidbit to offer us. Especially welcome were the roasted chestnuts and spiced cider at the outside campfires set up for this evening.
It was not readily apparent which buildings were rebuilt versus maintained or renovated and it would have been nice to more easily find this out before we started traipsing about in the lamplight. Also, most of the offered snacks were sugary. Sugar was not only prohibitively expensive at the period of this village tour, the accumulation of sugar got to be a bit too much.
By the way, there is a small restaurant in one of the restored buildings; we did not see this until we stumbled upon it.

Well kept and very interesting. Loved the interactive components.
Both myself & my 11 year old grandson really enjoyed it. There was so much to see and a lot of variety.
Give yourself lots of time to really experience it all.

My daughter, two granddaughters and a friend went to Black Creek last weekend and we had a great time just wandering around the village and checking out the animals. In a normal Christmas season there would be baking going on but of course in Covid many of the buildings are closed. Thank goodness the gift shop was open as that is always our last stop.

Hubby & I came here during the day time to see the buildings & the animals. We'd previously been here in the evening in October for a Haunted Walk tour which was a lot of fun! But most of the buildings are closed in the evenings which is why we came during the day.
Last time I'd been here was when I was a kid for a school trip. Things were very different back then as it was before covid. There are timed entries now so the village wasn't very crowded. It cost us $15 per adult to enter. The gift shop also doesn't open until 1.30pm. Some of the buildings were closed due to a private event or being repaired.
Hubby & I enjoyed wandering around the village, reading the information plaques & watching the animals roaming their pens. Some unique animals here. The chickens were really big! Two different breeds which I forget the name now. Also saw some sheep, Toulouse geese, and bunnies. The bunnies were also very big. There were even some guinea pigs in the same pen as the bunnies. The Clydesdale horses were beautiful & gentle. They wanted some treats. LOL.
We walked around for about 2.5 hours. It was a beautiful fall day so we enjoyed it. The food outlets are closed unfortunately. Though the washrooms are open in the visitors center & also in the events pavillion. We saw families who had brought food with them sitting at the picnic tables eating. We would come back here again!

Had a great time with my family here last week. Margot really brought the stories to life and the place was creepy in pitch blackness. The only real verisimilitude breaker was the planes over head and the roadway sounds nearby, neither of which were under their control. The Christmas lights didn't add to the creepiness, either. Definitely coming back.

I would get there as early as you can for opening time. It does get crowded in the summer. And honestly, everyone is different. We usually spend around 4-5 hours there. We take a picnic, take our time in the buildings, etc. and just relax. It is a lovely place to spend the day and very interesting. Have fun. :) P.S. They do have small areas with hotdogs, hamburgers, drinks, etc. but it can get pricey. There are also washrooms around and a lovely gift shop to browse in after.
Do the people at pioneer village live there or just work there?

Thank you Dianne for your question, and Serena for your response. It is true that our costumed interpreters work/ volunteer at the Village but do not live on site. During our annual "Battle of Black Creek" special event, a Revolutionary War re-enactment that takes place over a weekend in June, the re-enactors do camp out in Revolutionary War-era tents at the Village and you have a chance to visit their encampments during the day to see what they are like, however at all other times, as mentioned, our staff and volunteers do not reside here.
