We have attended the just for laughs festival for years. 2022 was such a disappointment. There were no street performers like other years. Food trucks did not open until 5ish on the Saturday. Ste Catherine Street would keep us entertained in the past. This year we were wandering around wondering if we were missing something.
Awful.
We went to our venue for the Nasty Show. Again, disappointed. Comedians even asked the crowd, are you not getting the jokes.
We were so excited for "normal" after two years of covid restrictions. Huge let down

This was such fun! We just happened to be in Montreal when this was happening. We got SOOO lucky. The shows were very entertaining and the food was fantastic. My only wish was to be able to eat at all the wonderful stands!!

L’endroit et le site y sont agréable quand même un beau choix de foodtruck.
Par contre, décevant que les activités et l’animation ne commence pas avantage 16h surtout le vendredi et durant le week-end!
Une scène seulement offre des spectacles à partir de midi, nous avons apprécié pourvoir regarder un imitateur!

Un visite d'une heure et le tour était fait, décevant malgré l'effort de quelques amuseur public, nous avons pas rester pour les spectacles de soirée, disons que depuis les commentaires de 2016 les temps on changé, beaucoup de foodtruck et seul bière en vente la sleeman, nous sommes à Montréal au Québec et aucune micro brasserie présente.... triste,, un après midi ordinaire, on aurait dû choisir le Vieux port moins comique mais plus d'action

This is such a great yearly event in Montreal! The humor, the crowd, the energy. Even if you don’t speak French you’ll find so many things to enjoy. I can’t believe all the stages and outdoor activities are free, wow! We had such a great time.

Excellent free venue for all ages. Great experience, 1 sq km of Montreal filled with comedy shows, clowns, juggling acts, children activities. There are a variety of comedy shows throughout the week, varying in price from free to $100+.

Spent 4 days and 3 nights in Montreal for the Just for laughs festival. Saw three galas and three other shows. The high kites for us were the BRIT -ish show hosted by Nish Kumar and the Deon Cole ( from Blackish ). The gala were good but the other shows were great
Sometimes it is just better seeing g artists that you may not be familiar with. Stayed at the hotel suites Square Phillip's which was excellent. Valet parking was free with a 3 night stay.
We ate at the food trucks in place des arts. There was variety and quality to choose from. The piri pork chicken stand was delicious. Just for laughs is awesome. Can not wait for next year.

Activities everywhere. Large crowds. Lots of food trucks. Great weather. Happy people. Everyone seems to be "in the mood" to have fun. Lots of free entertainment too.

When it’s hot outside and you hang around St Catherine street watching people , eat out of food trucks and watch jugglers perform .
We went to the small venue last night in Place des Arts 🎭, in the Salle Claude Leveillee Hall
Small sized for about 120 people to see two comedians , South American comedian and Maz Jobrani, he is from Los Angelos/and he is Persian :he is so funny / and he is on Netflix too / look him up , usually
He heads the Ethnic show but here was a small venue and mostly just him
With just 3 rows of the audience / small quaint place , very nice .
Come to Montreal in the summer , walk freely on our Main Street St Catherine street, coffee shops and restaurants and food trucks !

We will be going to JFL in Montreal for the first time and have a few questions. Is it necessary to pre-purchase passes or are they available on site? Also, I only see 2 shows listed on the events calendar, the nasty show and the ethnic show, are there other shows available that just are not listed? I assume there must be smaller shows throughout the week that are just not listed? Any help/tips would be much appreciated.

I went last year for the first time, it may be too far in advance for all the shows to be listed but there were many shows on when I went last year. What I did was purchase tickets in advance for a show I really wanted to see and then bought tickets on site for other smaller shows during the festival. I bought tickets in advance last year probably 1 month or less before the show.

Hello. We will be in Montreal for the purpose of participating in the JFL festivities. We are celebrating our 20th anniversary and I have been dissapointed by some things. Unfortunately it looks like we are missing out on the major entertainment as we are visiting the first week. When we booked our vacation time we had no idea that the major head liners. (English) outdoor stage and parade were during the second week. Can anyone shine some light on our trip? We have made reservations for the Nasty Show...but we were hoping for more "busker-like" activities. Thank you!

The closest hotel is the Hyatt, which is directly across the street from the main venue, Place des Arts. But there are dozens of good hotels in the area, which is just east of the central shopping area of Ste-Catherine.

So sorry I didn’t respond earlier - I stay with family in Montreal, so can’t suggest a hotel.
I have enjoyed the rooftop restaurant - Terrasse Sur L’Auberge (97 de la Commune Street) numerous times (in the summer months), highly recommend this gem! Located in Old Montreal, adjacent to the Port, the view is spectacular!
And I would love to try the hotel at the same address - Auberge du Vieux-Port.

As far as hotels, on what street/area should I stay to be closest to most of the venues? Any specific hotel get your recommendations?

Hi Erin: Once the organization comes up with the lineup and I would check online...or sign up so you get a heads up..is purchase online for the key ones that you want to attend. I would suggest to get the tickets in advance and you have them and then you can either plan or see what else is happening in Montreal at that time, which is plenty. even walking the streets in the area around the festival is fun and then there are impromptu concerts (free) etc...Hope this helps. I'm from BC but grew up in Montreal.

Hey! Thanks for the question. Unfortunately most shows are 18+ however we'll have tons for kids to do and see on our Outdoor Street Festival during the day!
