Lovely showroom with a great range to purchase. Good quality craft items. My daughter purchased a mug in a lovely tartan design. A nice stop on our way north.

Disappointing visit.

We saw the sign for the pottery and turned round to check it out. The showroom was deserted of visitors or staff so we had a quick look around and left, disappointed.

Lovely Pottery

I have been to this pottery before and I was looking forward to a return visit.
The showroom has well laid out collections and the choice of decoration and styles is quite large.
I bought an eggcup with a bee design which is just lovely.
Friendly hand helpful staff too

Very disappointed

I have been a fan and ambassador for Tain Pottery for decades both at home and abroad until I experienced after sales service there or complete lack of it.

Having purchased a Balintore Charger at great expense (over £100) as a dishwasher proof and ovenproof dish, albeit several years ago, I put it in the oven for the first time. My heart sank when it split into three pieces.
There were no previous cracks and the charger had been meticulously cared for.

I sent photos of both sides of the three pieces together with an explanatory letter. No reply other than being asked to resend the photos.
Whilst in the area I visited the shop to see if they had actually received the photos.
An unwelcoming face came to speak to me. Impossible that there had been no prior cracks apparently and it was all my fault.

It is with disappointment that I shall no longer be recommending Tain Pottery.
Good luck to anyone who needs to return any product.

Beautiful pottery but rude staff member.

I visited last week and found some beautiful pottery. However the man with glasses who was at the till was extremely unfriendly, almost hostile and exceptionally rude. If it hadn't been for a friendly, pleasant younger man who took over serving me I would have walked out without making a purchase. I would think twice about going back there.

Definitely worth a visit

Truly wonderful place to visit! Their pottery is second to none and the staff are very friendly and helpful. Outside COVID-19 you can normally see them painting the wares too.

A lovely pottery also offering some garden plants too.
Thoroughly enjoyed looking at the designs and quality of pottery on offer whihc did tempt us to make a purchase.

We were on a tour and stopped in at Tain Pottery. We were pleasantly surprised at the quality and beauty of the pottery produced on site at the location. This is a good stop on your visit to the highlands!

I highly recommend that you deviate from the A9 and head into Tain Pottery, it's on the left about 1.2km before the first turn-off into Tain.

The signpost for it isn't that well situated, being parallel with the road and once you see it, you'll be past the entrance before you can blink.

Keep your eyes peeled for a brown "Visit Tain, Historic Royal Burgh" and the entrance is just before it. Of course, you can, and perhaps should, look on Google maps.

A lovely range of dishes, lamps, crockery and so on. You can on occasion see the pottery being thrown or the items being painted. Quite a few are done by hand and brush, and this is such skilled work, I am always impressed!

There is an area of seconds which is always worth a look. Last time I came away with a lovely plate, and whilst there is a fault, it's on the back of the piece, and I can live with that!

They also sell on-line, and deliver by post (within the UK and to the USA, not sure about Canada).

I would definitely recommend taking 45minutes or so out of your trip to come in here, but I would leave young children outside or at home, too many things to grab, knock into, and break - and you'd have to pay for them!

Fabulous find. A million times better than ANTA

You saved the day, Tain Pottery! I took my mum and my partner’s mum for a wee day trip to Dornoch and we stopped at various interesting places en route. We had a horrible experience at ANTA and were feeling thoroughly dejected but when we walked in to Tain Pottery - wow, what a treat!!!!! Shelves and shelves of the most exquisite ceramics - we couldn’t stop saying “wow”. We chatted to a lovely gentleman who told us about the designs and made us feel most welcome. Thank you - we’ll be back - we have to add to our newly started collections now!!
