I lived here for about 16 years and it is a wonderful place. The town centre looks great at night with all the lighting on.Have a look at the clock tower on St Joris Kirk. On the hour a St George and the dragon comes out and St George kills the dragon.
Many very good cafes and restaurants it the centre.
A bit out of the town centre is a great small zoo that is well worth a visit.

Amersfoort was probably one of my favorite towns we visited while in the Netherlands. We would have enjoyed it more as it is so charming and lovely however there was a jazz festival going on so the town was very, very busy. So there were many sites that we were unable to visit as they were closed but what we did so was so enjoyable and steeped in history. We will definitely return to enjoy the natural state of this gorgeous town.

The town of Amersfoort is a jewel. Don’t miss it if you’re visiting Holland. The tourist office sells a small brochure showing an easy walk of 2-3 hours around the town, it’s a pleasure to visit and there’s lots to see. There are lots of places to sit and relax or drink a beer (a beautiful beer garden on Appelmarkt for instance). One highlight not to miss: St. Joris church has two (very damaged) frescoes at the altar that are stunningly beautiful. They would be the pride of any world-class museum. A visit to Amersfoort is a wonderful way to spend a day.

So glad my conference was here as we used Amersfoort as our home base for the week. This beautiful town has a historic city center with canals, plazas, shopping and cafes. The train station was a short walk from our hotel (Mercure) and trains ran every few minutes to Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Gouda, The Hague for siteseeing and day visits. Also if you are a train enthusiast, this is the place for you! Don't overlook this beautiful town.

I lived here for almost a year and I must say I fell in love with this place. It is a family, quiet place. Super organized, safe and has many things to do. I would love to go back sometime.

We've visited dozens of the smaller cities in the Netherlands and only recently discovered this gem of a place. There is much to see and do in the compact city centre with history at every step. It's buzzing with many bars and restaurants and provides excellent shopping opportunties as well if that's your thing. Highly recommended for a short stay and its well connected too making it all the more surprising that it's not better known.

Dagelijks fiets ik door het historische centrum van deze mooie stad. Als je dat dagelijks doet zie je eigenlijk niet meer hoe mooi deze stad werkelijk is.
Af en toe stop ik nu om even te genieten van het moois dat er te zien is.
Kortom: een bezoek aan het historische centrum is zeer de moeite waard! Of aan Monnickendam (rand het centrum) als de krokussen bloeien...

We zijn nu een paar keer naar amersfoort geweest en ik ken alle grote steden best goed. Amersfoort niet en ik vind het een hele mooie en gezellige stad. Veel te zien. Mooie oude gebouwen en huizen. Leuk ook om te winkelen. Echt een aanrader.

Amersfoort is a very old city. I found a pub that was built just before Columbus sailed for the Americas. Grote Slock (Means Big Drink) or something to that effect. The people are very friendly. Much English is spoken. There are many nice shops to browse and perhaps spend your money.
