The Kalayaan Tree is steeped in history. Located in front of the Malolos Cathedral (not the more famous Barasoain Church), where Aguinaldo held office under the First Philippine Republic, history claims that Filipino Revolutionaries met under the tree (young at the time) to discuss issues and strategies. There are some statues portraying the meeting events under the tree, but it is a pity that the information and documentation about the history of the tree and the events are not better presented.

This may look like just like any other tree in the area, and it is true. But it's the history associated with it that counts. This tree, located right in front of the cathedral of Malolos (Basilica Minore de Inmaculada Concepcion), is said to have been planted by Emilio Aguinaldo himself -- the very first President of the Philippine Republic. It was under its shade that a group of Filipinos met to discuss the actions to take to gain Philippine independence. Today people hardly pay attention to this tree, but there's really more to it than meets the eye.

AN old tree that have seen and heard a lot of secret meetings here and there from history books to millennial's group dates, Probably been a hot rod for a wifi signal from all over the city..

This was just a typical tree in front of a cathedral. There was this statues of people conducting a meeting probably during the time of Malolos Congress. There's enough parking space in the area.

Firstly this is a great place to seek respite from the sun if you are waiting to go into the cathedral and it's busy with a service.
The historical significance of this tree is that it is a living witness to the Malolos Republic. Aguinaldo and his Cabinet have conducted many political discussions there it is alleged. Under the tree, a monument was placed symbolizing the meeting of Filipino revolutionaries. So an interesting part of Philippines history has been witnessed by the tree.
The statue of Pope John Paul II stands opposite.
Be careful to note this is in front of the Cathedral not the famous church on the other side of the road.

As the previous review said, "Old but Beautiful". The markers are not highlighted or given much attention since its visibility is not noticeable. It could use more arrangement or better perimeter design since it is often used as a waiting shade for those attending mass or waiting as a shade against the scorching heat of the sun.
The tree itself is beautiful! It could sure use some more attention at being taken care of like better fence, or expanding its soil base, putting garbage bins closer, and some lights to make it more appealing when seen at night.
