De botanische tuin hebben wij bezocht in een speciaal door TUI samengestelde excursie. Eerst naar een kleuterschooltje, dan de grotten van Roaring River waar de gids veel over weet te vertellen. Daarna een wandeling langs echte Jamaicaanse huizen terwijl de gids je allerlei kruiden laat ruiken. Na een drankje de Blue Hole gatden tuin bezocht. Met de bus verder naar Reggae style Mayfield falls. Bikini en waterschoenen mee, dan loop je door de Mayfield falls omhoog.
Samen een leuke excursie wat je echt wat van het land ziet.
Specifiek Blue Hole garden: leuk om zoveel soorten planten bij elkaar te zien. Zelfs nog een kolibrie gezien. Leuk als onderdeel van een hele excursie, maar los alleen wordt de toegangsprijs wel een prijzig (15 USD).
Samen een leuke excursie wat je echt wat van het land ziet.

I first visited this place over ten years ago and was sad to watch it go unkempt over the years. I was in the area a few weeks ago. I stopped by and was blown away. My only regret was that we didn't pack a lunch and plan to stay the whole day. We enjoyed the blue hole and the river. We could have easily stayed a couple more hours enjoying the lush gardens and the general environment. Next time we'll plan to stay for lunch and bring a book or a journal to get some writing done.

We only enter the gates to have a look around as our day was full already but oh my goodness nothing but beautiful green lush gardens and the blue hole it's mind blowing. It's a definite add to the list for the next visit!

You should book in advance, though this is not mandatory unless you want to order lunch or accomodation. Get directions.
Location is a bit tricky to find: you have to go through Roaring River (where there may be self-appointed local guides wanting to get your money off you - just say you're not interested and going to visit Jennifer at the Blue Hole!). Go to Petersfield and follow signs to Roaring River. Continue along the road to a dead end. The Gardens have a white-gated entrance on the right side.
(The map supplied on their website suggests a more direct access from Whithorn, on the Montego Bay road, though enquiries at the police station there did not know of this road).
The gardens are developed between two fast-flowing streams, and have a large variety of tropical fruits and flowers, some of which are grown commercially. There is a changing area so you can jump into the fresh clear blue hole water (whose depth has not been accurately verified) to cool off if it's very hot (which it usually is). You can have your pre-ordered (or selected on the day) lunch brought over from kitchens across the road, or just enjoy the various nooks and crannies of these gardens, which are very photogenic.
In addition you can stay over at a cottage, and enjoy this quintessential tropical forest.
A local gent will be happy to show you round, describe the plants, let you smell the scents of various herbs, and collect fresh mangoes for you. The only minus was that he expected a larger tip than we could give him (he did not ask at the outset whether we wanted a guided tour for a fee..., though this would have been gladly accepted).
